Application
right-aligned image
Name: Sotyrtus

Race: Centaur

Class: Barbarian

Appearance: The centaurs of the Mori Clan were of stocky build with relatively short but strong legs and a large torso. Most members of the clan were brown with the occasional centaur having white legs near the hooves but Sotyrtus was born with all white fur and a long tail of jet black hair. The hair on his head is a darker white verging on grey which he wears tied at the top and flowing down his back so that its appearance is similar to that of his tail. He keeps a long braided beard which has grown down nearly to his naval.

Personality: Born in the harsh steppes of Aduu, the Mori centaurs were a self-reliant people and even though they had become the home of the most prized mercenaries in the land, they never lost their patience, tolerance, and helpfulness honed through a millennia as nomads in the barren wastes. A Mori would never abandon a contract, would never turn away a guest and would never show doubt or worry.

They were renowned for their stoicism which was best displayed during the Battle of Khentii where fifty Mori stampeders stood their ground against nearly five times their number of Grimolon raiders. They died to a man but never broke formation nor cried out in pain upon defeat.

Backstory: Once there were numerous Mori mercenary groups of 100zuuns that poured out of the Aduu Steppes. Some fought for Verogoth, some for the Grimolon Empire, some for other lesser nations. But all were renowned as the best warriors coin could buy. That coin flowed back through the generals to the Great Khan in the grand centaur city of Bayanbulag. The city had been built upon the bones of an ancient ruin of some long lost civilization. From the few frescoes that had been unearthed in the ruin (the Mori were not avid archaeologists), the area had once been some kind of fertile inland sea, the lost civilization had been powerful and prosperous.

The Great Khan, however, had discovered more of this ancient complex than he allowed many to know. With the labor of countless slaves and the assistance of his vizier, more sections were cleared out. They found something...or something found them. It is unknown what exactly occurred in Bayanbulag but the city is now empty and cursed. Tales from the few who escaped, mostly slaves and servants, tell a story of bloodshed. Centaur zuuns attacking and slaying each other in a murderous frenzy until all who had been in the city were dead.

At the time, many of Bayanbulag's zuun had been recalled to the capital. There are few of the Mori left and most have scattered to the winds searching for purpose now that their strict military lifestyle has dissolved.

1 or 2 Goals/Ambitions: Discover what occurred in Bayanbulag which destroyed his people's civilization. Sotyrtus has heard rumors that there had been a dwarven explorer who had entered some of the chambers below the Khan's palace before being expelled from the empire by the Khan. The dwarf was rumored to be in the area of Eridel.

His training as a mercenary gave Sotyrtus little idle time and so he finds that without his zuun, he must find things to keep himself busy. He does not do well without a purpose and would readily aid others with their own specific problems.

Playstyle: Would take the charger feat and use the 40 ft. base movement of the centaur with the reach of a lance to charge in and out of battle when possible. Close quarters shield and weapon.

@Zamdall Do you have anything against the idea of a 'veteran character'? My excuse for them being lvl 1 is age

@Stonk - Noted

@Tomplum - As a heads up, I believe Centaurs are being released with the Guilds of Ravnica book and the race may change a bit when that happens.

@Krow Nest - Plenty of ways to do that and I usually have no problem with it. There are some cases where the backgrounds are a little over the top. Level 1 is where your story begins and whatever you did before that merely prepared you for it.

@Zamdall - That'll be cool to have them an official race. I'll just roll with whatever they choose. I can't see it affecting the charger / lance mechanic much so it should still be relevant regardless.

A bit late to the party, my sandbox-radar went off with like crazy while browsing the advertisements section, so I just had to check this out.

Please find below my humble application, complete with a toddler-induced sleeping disorder driven character concept (no, really...)

Application
right-aligned image

Name: Reginald Geoffrey Delafontaine Fox Darlington-Whit
Race: Human (Variant)
Class: Warlock

Appearance: Reginald has meticulously groomed hair, beard and mustache, and is almost never seen with an out-of-place hair. Everything he does and says gives off a strong hint of wealth and care-free upbringing. He always carries several scented handkerchiefs, which he uses to inconspicuously dab his nose whenever he interacts with someone he deems beneath his station.

Personality: Unlike the majority of nobles in this land, Reginald has no hint of malice or grandeur in his behavior - even though his unequivocal ignorance might sometimes make it look like that would be the case. He has as much street-wise skills as a desert has dolphins.

Backstory: The Darlington-Whits made their fortunes by practicing the second (well, perhaps third, if you count Village Idiot) oldest profession: getting rid of other people's refuse. One might think emptying outhouses and carting off garbage is a shameful business, but the Darlington-Whits quickly learned to ignore shame - then completely hide it, behind luxurious mansions and expensive banquets. You'd be surprised how much ordinary people are willing to pay to have smelly stuff taken away from their houses! Wherever there was a settlement, a Darlington-Whit was sure to move in, usually among the first to settle and set up the collection infrastructure, at the expense of the city hall, of course! And thus, their fortunes grew exponentially over generations. Today, no one in the family is directly involved in the... ehem... dirty work, instead employing others to do it for them. They even have teams of goblins sifting through the daily intake - people do throw away the strangest, and sometimes, the most resealable things! And the goblins, of course, are happy to keep any scraps of food as payment.

Reginald, the latest offspring of the Darlington-Whit family in Eridel, was the personification of a pampered upbringing. There was nothing he could not buy. As such, to no one's surprise (except, perhaps, of the Old Ones themselves), he became the only known person in history to buy himself magical powers - and why? Because gods also get bored and need a bit of a giggle from time to time, so they've industriously ignored the saying 'good things come to those who wait' and granted Reginald occult powers in exchange for a considerable amount of gold (nobody knows what an Old One does with it. Some think hip replacement). He was also the only warlock known to be able to nonchalantly cast an Eldritch Blast with his pinky finger held out.

And then he turned 19, the wonderful age when teens need to explore the world, against every single shout of alarm from their internal self preservation mechanism. Armed only with his complete ignorance of what life is like outside his villa (build on the grounds of his parents mansion), Reginald set out to explore this magical thing he only heard about: the countryside. Idealistic to the bone, he decided to challenge himself and see if he could survive on his own (even though his idea of survival includes 3 warm meals per day, 4 courses each, a warm bed with a feather mattress no thinner than a foot, and someone to dab his mouth with a silk cloth after each sip of wine).

Goals:
1. Learn to survive without bribing, paying off, influence, tip or shower with gold anyone who makes his life marginally difficult.
2. Make use of his newfound powers and grow his skills. If he can help other... people, are they called? in the process, he will be happy. Especially after the third minute of plaudits.
3. Enjoy the simple things in life (a shudder of apprehension has to be mentioned here).

Name: Genna Brighteyes
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Warlock (celestial patron from UA)
Appearance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9h_...=RDR9h_WNYeHwc

Genna is young, beautiful, and charismatic.
Personality: Bubbly and outgoing, shallow. Genna is friendly and intelligent, but no one accuses her of being wise. She tends to ask 'Whitemane' for advice which is suprisingly oftenwhen she doesn't know what to do, although there is no deity in the pantheon with that name.
Backstory: Forty years ago, Prince Philip Brighteyes IV of Shardkeep fell in love with an Elven noble named Yerrithy Dungrove and married her. Their union was initially joyful, and produced a daughter whom they named Genna.
When she was sixteen, Genna left to spend a few years with her relatives in the elvish kingdom of Triafalls. One day she wandered into an enchanted glade and encountered a talking horse. The two of them got on well and over time Whitemane - as she called him - became her best friend. In time she made a sacred pact with the horned horse to never sleep with any man.
When her grandfather died, Genna returned to Shardkeep for the coronation of her father. However, the once happy family she'd known was no more. Elves are less fertile than humans, and for years Philip had longed for son to pass his kingdom on to. When Genna was 38, King Philip accused her mother of adultery and sent her to the block. The king promptly married a human courtesan who bore him his coveted son and heir eight months later. A few months later an Elvish Assassin killed the king. On that day, Princess Genna decided that it was no longer safe for her in her father's house and fled the kingdom. The kingdom is being ruled by her brother, who is little more than an infant. The royal adviser - a magician named Salasoul - serves as regent. Whether Salasoul is a monster or Genna is simply paranoid is a matter for the DM to decide.
1 or 2 Goals/Ambitions:
Gain power and hone her abilities without getting killed by monsters or Salasoul's assassins.
Genna believes that Salasoul is far from the innocent, unconcerned magician he pretends to be. She is certain that her relatives in Triafalls could never have sent the assassin that killed her father. Convinced Salasoul is behind her father's death and seeking power... she wants him dead.

ApplicationName: Dyas Kincaid
Race: Human
Class: Blood Hunter

right-aligned image
Appearance: Dyas' abundance of untamed facial hair tends to distract from the fading line atop his head. In fact, his scalp is one of the few places on his body where hazel-tinted hair has decided not to populate. His burly physique has been an advantage during Dyas' early years, working in Renfael's lumber mill. If his stature wasn't enough to reveal his profession, the multiple scars on and near his hands would do the trick. His looming presence notwithstanding, one can still find warmth behind his amber-colored eyes.

Personality: Despite his seemingly humble beginnings, Dyas' father actually owned the lumber mill in Renfael; though, Dyas has always made it a point to work for what he's given. Even though Dyas would actually prefer to avoid large social gatherings, he's often the first to buy a round of drinks for his friends or toss a coin to someone in need. On the day of his father's passing, which seemed to happen under questionable circumstances, Dyas' warmth seemed to fade. Though, in truth, it's just been buried under despair. Dyas possesses a level of intellect that most would not suspect, which served him well in investigating his father's untimely end; leading him to The League of Hunters.

Backstory: The Kincaid Family Lumber Mill has been one of the few constants among the ever changing town of Renfael. It's maintained steady employment throughout the years, providing enough coin to feed a number of generations. This was to be Dyas' future, as it was his father's. Though, the fates can be finicky and had a different path in mind for young Dyas. During Dyas' 29th year of life, his father passed away under curious circumstances. Upon conducting his own investigation, the young Kincaid came across a ring that had been hidden away under the wood floors of his father's home. The ring possessed an engraving, depicting a sword with its hilt enveloped by a droplet of blood.

More determined to solve the mystery of the ring and his father's death, Dyas left the family Mill in the very questionable hands of his brother. The two never quite got along, but he figured some distance between them could be good. Not long into his journey, Dyas had been approached by a group that felt familiar to him, yet he had never before seen. Their hands equally as scarred as his and their fingers bore rings similar to that of his father's. Dyas came to know them as The League of Hunters and was informed that his father had been a member long ago. They too were determined to find out more about his questionable death and sought to enlist Dyas in their effort.

The leader, Viera, personally saw to Dyas' training and education within the league. They believed the conditions of his father's death were more sinister in nature and wanted to make sure Dyas could protect himself from darker forces. After nearly a year spent among The League, Dyas was ready to continue his investigation. However, with so much time passed, there were now only whispers related to his father's death. He was instructed to visit the town of Eridel to see what rumors could be rediscovered.

1 or 2 Goals/Ambitions: 1) Finding an answer to how his father died and who was involved.
2) Searching for others from The League that may teach him more about his Blood Hunter abilities and how to control them.
3) Finding normalcy in this new life of his.

Made some minor updates to Eldra. I'm thinking I like him. If he gets picked I've already got several little scenes worked out for him. I've got to decide what I want his free feat to be. I'm seriously considering, because of how I plan to play him, taking Cantrip Caster, Sorcerer, Friends. Although Dual-Wield Master could also come in handy. Skirmisher could be nice, but doesn't really work with his story.

To the other applicants, sorry that so much of my Ap is hidden. Eldra has no plans of attacking or stealing from the Party, Zam can confirm that. If I get chosen I want to be able to RP out our first meeting without you already knowing what's going to be said.

https://www.rpgcrossing.com/profiler/view.php?id=77964
Name: Elise Felixi
Race: V. Human (+1 CHA, +1 Dex, Magic Initiate)
Class: Bard (College of Glamour)
Appearance: Jaw-length black hair, sharp blue eyes. Half-lidded eyes give me a sleepy expression, though I am always aware of my surroundings. There's a large scar on my left shoulder from when my childhood home burned to the ground, taking my parents.
Personality: I help the people who help me—that's what keeps us alive. I bluntly say what other people are hinting at or hiding. No one else should have to endure the hardships I've been through.
Backstory: After I recovered from the fire, I started asking questions. It was starting to look like it was arson committed by someone with some degree of power in the city. I was run out of town by some shady men in hoods. I had to go with nothing else in the world but the rags on my back and my pet mouse in my pocket. In the woods, I was found by the fey, who taught me some of their magic, and fostered my natural talents. With the gift of a fine flute and clothes, I've made my way back from the land of the fae, but I'm somewhere far from home. I want to do right by the innkeeper, Talia, who let me in on rainy nights and gave me leftovers, despite the downturn in her business.
1 or 2 Goals/Ambitions: I want to repay Talia, and to find the arsonist that took my home.

@Zamdall - I feel my application is complete. Skrynn - Human Druid

If you are willing to review it and offer some feedback, or questions that I can clear up that would be appreciated but I understand if you are not doing that.

Thanks for the opportunity.

If reviews are something people want then I can certainly oblige. Just shoot me a message and I will get back to you when I can. On another note, the moderators have gifted me with our game forum. There isn't much there at the moment except for the expanded home brew rules for downtime and crafting that I use in my real life west marches style game (Which I am thinking of starting on here if people are interested). Feel free to take a gander.

I think Innominate is 100% complete as well. No feedback required unless you see something that wouldn’t mesh well with the story, but it is always welcome!

I guess I do have one question; in character creation you state “Everyone begins play with the gear from their class and background.” Does that mean we are not rolling for starting gold to buy extra equipment? That is perfectly fine with me, just clarifying

That's correct. Most backgrounds come with some spending money that should tide the party over until you find some treasure.
