Plot Summary War of the Field
The game is now closed to any further applications
We have a 9v9 PvP game that will commence at the end of this week.
"This shall be...
THE WAR OF THE FIELD! "
His Gloriousness Magnolix the ruler of the known world and a most powerful Lich wants only the most powerful and cunning of his vassals to lead. He has been pitching vassals against one another for years. Now Lord Ambestar and Lord Skelburt have been ordered to wage war against one another. His Gloriousness Magnolix has raised up a massive magic force field around the valley between the two lords keeps. They have had two months to prepare and prepare they have. Rallying mercenaries, building defences, developing strategies and now the time has come. Tomorrow on at the break of dawn war shall ensue. The victor shall have Magnolix’s blessings, wealth, the lands belonging to their quarry and most of all his life.
Ambestar
Skelburt
Basic premise is that two lords are at war, their keeps are close together (about a kilometre apart). There has been a state of cold war but that is about to break. PCs will fight one another in the trenches leading NPCs leading special raids.
Everyone one who applies will get in. I'll not turn anyone away. The only rule i have for applying is that you check who the last applicant was, see which Lord they are fighting in, then go on the opposite side. This just balances out the teams.
* There are couple of extra hero positions for each team, first in first served here folks. I do not require completed apps but first person who thinks they have the capacity to make an extra impact on the battlefield will get the position! (See below )
Player info All PCs will be level 4
Start gold: = 2500gp to buy as you wish.
Race: You may be any race that you like as long as it is from a published source. There is one thing that is a no no... Nothing with a flying speed.
• No flying mounts or flying races. You may not use flying spells because adding aerial combat to this just makes it even harder to keep track of everything. If you'd like a reason then Magnolix has cast a spell keeping everything to the ground and preventing flying
Alignment: Doesn’t matter in this context, you are trying to defeat the enemy on the field of battle, role play will be light.
Multi-classing: Yes you may, keep in mind the stat increase happens at level 4 for most classes, multi-classing will take that increase from you. You may take human variant, or take a feat instead of the level 4 increase to stats.
Stats and Health: No rolling for Stats, no rolling for HP. Using standard state array here: 15,14,13,12,10 & 8.
Also max health, let's keep every one for as long as possible.
PCs can hold different ranks on the battle field and can rule over NPCs soldiers.
Give your self a rank, only one player will hold the title and rank of Lord but other than that have at it.
Posting rate: one round every week. Is you are unable to post in a week you will not be NPCed you character will be named as “Stunned by the chaos of Battle”. Not only that but any NPCs under your control will be stunned as well.
Heroes: Each of the Lords have 3 Heroes - These Heroes have the same requirements as above with the benefit that you are level 7 instead of level 4. First in First served. You are the impact players... you are the bigger targets. The titles and therefore level 7 spots have been claimed!
Lord Ambestar & Lord Skelburt
One lucky player, who wants a bit more strategy rather than combat get's to play the Race is up to you Lord (or Lady) . You are the leader of the team. You start under ground, at a magical table with a live feed of the entire field. You can talk telepathically to each of your soldiers and direct them and co-ordinate the battle.
The game ends when one Lord Dies
As well as the above PC options you may choose to be a Mercenary or a Loyal soldier either option comes with a small benefit:
• Loyal Members of their Lord’s House receive an extra 50pts to spend
• Mercenaries have an extra $800 to spend
Each player has 100 points to add things to the battle field from the below list.
• Every 5 square feet of underground tunnel 10pts • Trench 10ft wide, 6ft deep & 10ft long 10pts • Archer (NPC) 20pts • Light soldier (NPC) 10pts • Heavy soldier (NPC) 20pts • Mounted Soldier (NPC) 60pts • Watchtower 100pts • Wall 5pts • Cleric (Level 3 NPC) Heal Bot 100pts • Wizard (Level 2) You control as second PC 100pts • Knight (Level 2 Fighter or Paladin) You control as second PC 100pts • Large Crossbow (2D10 Damage - Range 500ft) 100pts • Small Catapult (2D6 Damage - Range 100ft 10ft square AOE) 100pts • Trap - Various (May deal up to 1D8 damage) 50pts
Crossbow, Catapult come with a 2-man operating team, the player who bought controls it.
Open to other suggestions on what you’d like
Here is a link to the battle map that we’ll be using –
Battle Map
EA through to EL is No-Man’s-Land. Nothing may be placed in this area before the starting of the game, after that feel free to get up out of the trenches.
• Each of the teams will have a duplicate copy with their underground tunnels, or traps on it and anything from the enemy that you have discovered.
If you are still with me and want a major PvP combat, then this is how we will run it:
Every week in the real world will be one round. Which means one post per week. I would prefer you post as soon as possible rather than waiting to the end (Late posts will be missed).
It’ll be first come first served which means, the initiative order will be who ever posts first. That may be unfair but for something of this scale this is just how it needs to be.
Because this is the chaos of war you will always be able to have your turn even if the five people before you focus fire and you insta-die (Taking your full hp into the negative). Your action for that round will be your heroic last actions.
Spells: Damage will be dished out on the round but effects like hold person or charm will begin for at the start of the next round.
All rolls must be attached in your post by TT tags, whether you roll in the thread or roll in the TT tags themselves that is up to you but I won’t go looking for them, I hope to have a lot of players, and know that for this to work means my work needs to be as easy as possible.
How I DM – I pretty much copy your post and what you put in there then blend it with the other posts with the idea of reading like a part of a novel. Which means the more you post the more you'll feature in the 'Round Up'. The more heroic and epic your character will be. It also means that you as the player don't have to keep up with reading every post, instead only one post will mater. Here is a sample of a game I ran a while back. I'll try to add more pictures so the "Round Up" isn't so wordy.Narative As the first person reaches the junction in the corridor a maniacal laugh each of the escapees is too familiar with echoes its way down the corridor from their left. The source of the laugh comes from the imposing figure of Sub Level 6s own torturer. The demon which strapped you to chairs and tables whilst it burnt and cut you. The creature which put you into contraptions made to stretch you and break your bones. The creature which laughed that same laugh at your every scream of agony. It's red skin covered with blackened scars and chains dangling menacingly from a cover over it's face. Moving it's head from left to right swaying while laughing the chains begin to clang and clatter together. The black hole where it's left eye should be opens to its fullest extent allowing you a glimpse of pus and infected flesh. A surprising high scream crashes through your ears. When you look up the demon has already closed ten feet on you. The red skinned creature of your nightmares channels it's momentum into one of the chains jingling from it's torso. Lashing out with it he launches the chain at Isledai as a wide grin spreads across her checks. Thorngrave moves beside her to counter the torturers attack. With both batons in hand he uses them against the arm of the beast as it tries to defend its self. Though unfortunately the thick wooden batons seem only to irritate it. Isledai attempts to stick that thing which strapped her to a table and cut into her with the broken chair leg but the chains seemed almost alive and able to to defend the torturer. The remainder of the escapees try to gain better position themselves for another attack but now that it is closer it can be seen that some of A fancy way of saying this guys 'Bloodied' My post the 'Round Up' . Turning to the dwarf A chain flicks around behind the torturer, hitting the stone wall on its way producing sparks... Isledai grunts as her chair leg plunges into the mass of black chains, getting tangled inside of the metal web. She rips it free and steps back to catch her breath. Lifting her shield up, she blocks an incoming chain, the force of the blow slightly cracking the wood. The drow stands tall and bangs her weapon into her shield a few times to threaten the creature. "You must face retribution for your crimes, demon. The gods will not help you if you are found lacking!" The sting of the torture's chains fueled Thorngrave's rage as Ghuan moved around to get behind this Torture . Not only did this creature cause him on told pain over and over again but he apparently could withstand the dwarf's assault. Thorngrave thought he must have been weaker than he thought for not being able to break through the defenses of that red skinned Devil. Swinging again Thorngrave brings the batons in sideways from either side. Hoping that if the torturer moved to defend at least one of his attacks would strike home. To Thorngrave's delight both batons were able to hit their mark. The sounds of crunching greeted his ears as bone was met with hard wood. Unfortunately the devil moved his head only slightly but enough so that he accidentally dodged the chair leg and swung as by Ghuan at the back of the torturer's head. Gills saw an opportunity to move around and flank this Torture and did so. He pressed his body against the wall to slip around his allies and got on the opposite side of this monster. Aylee smiled watching as her allies moved into better positions she knew this was going to be therapeutic . This demon had made her suffer for years and now it was her turn to strike back. Under her breath she spoke a few magical words and aim her had at the friend and let out a cold ray of energy. As energy stuck through the chains hitting red flesh she roared "thats for tying me down!" . Isledai then swiftly lunges forward for Goading Strike: If the attack strikes the creature, he must make a Wisdom saving throw, DC 15. If he fails, he gains disadvantage on all attacks against any targets that aren't me until the end of my next turn. the presumed black scars are actually blood oozing from fresh lacerations . Gills then called upon his aquatic natural forces and took the form of a large octopus. With his legs he reached out to grapple the fiend. It had been so long since he had taken this form, however, that he struggled to move its many arms around and grab his enemy as well as forcing Ghuan to jump out of the way of the arms of the Sea dwelling monster. With a roar of pure rage the Torturer swings his chains at those assaulting him. Three of those chains that jingle so readily, send chills up the spines of those around him, as they swing out towards Iseldai directly in front of him. The arms of the Octopus behind him slapping intentionally against the Red Skinned Devil's back trying to grab him throws off his aim. The chains over shoot the Drow and a pulled back with a bellow of frustration. As the chains are pulled they tug tight for a moment until the bellow of frustration turns into that gleeful maniacal laugh of joy as Quinn sings out his pain. The singing is brief as is it turns to a scream, one that the corridors of Sub Level 6 are more used to. The screaming stops abruptly and it becomes more of a gurgle as the chains pull back passed Isledai. They come back greased with blood. Quinn sinks to stone floor of the corridor holding his neck as blood pours from between his figures and his insides leak out of a deep laceration on his side. It is easy to see that the life he once lived has come to an end. As the demon's chain flies towards Isledai's face, she deftly ducks underneath the attack. She grimaced as she heard the dying screams of her would-be comrade behind her, gritting her teeth what would perhaps be a death knell for the others... Or herself, if Lolth had truly shunned her. Ghuan's eyes widen at Quinn's death. He expected death, but not this quick. Either way, useless to stop now. Quinn's in a good place, better to die than be tortured. He sensed rather than felt an attack on the torturer coming and barely got out of the way. He backs off, then waits to get behind the hated torturer once more. Using the wall Ghuan bounces around the giant Octopus taking the chair leg and swinging as hard as he could once again at the back of the torturer's head. A solid thunk is heard even while the Dwarf Thorngrave continues his onslaught, who is able to put asidethe surprising death of Quinn knowing it was something to be handled later. Now that there were more people attacking the creature the Dwarf landed more blows thanks that the Red skinned devil was unsure where to defend himself from. Both Batons swing at the Devil one which hits it in the stomach with enough force to wind him a little, doubling over the devil attempts to put his arm in the way of the second blow but instead of blocking the blow he deflects it up. Thorngrave keeps force on the Baton as it changes trajectory upwards an into the eye socket of the Torturer. The baton sinks deep. Life seems to leave with the baton as it is pulled free. Still standing the rest of the escapees make sure the devil is truely gone and unable to make trouble for them or cause them anymore pain. Aylee watched Quin die and felt some drops of blood across her "Pity" she spoke. She looked back to the demon "This will be for the fire!" Aylee holds up her left hand, her eyes turn blue as she casts frostbite. Gills as the Octopus pushes forward grappling the frost bitten and purple skinned devil. As he squashes bones can be heard cracking like kindling being snapped and joints popping. Isledai shrugged off the blasphemous thought and went in for another strike. Seeing an opportunity for a counterattack, rushes forward in an attempt to jam her chair leg into the demon's stomach in between two of the Octopus' legs. knowing full well this was the end to this conflict and before another life was taken. Torturer Dead
another deadly strike .
The game will be split into North, South and Central or Middle. This is purely so that it is easier to distinguish what is going on in your immediate area.
There will be cross over for sure and I ask for patience as I work out the kinks in this style of play.

FAQ:
Q - What happens when you die?
A - Much like Battlefield Online play, each team will be issued a certain amount of Lives and can reinforce your army with a new character.
Q - When do you plan on ending the application process?
A - Everyone who applies will get in but I'll look at starting the game roughly early December at the earliest but for this to work we would need about a 5v5 at a minimum
Q - Do I make a character now, like i would for every other app?
A - Yes please. Though because this is combat heavy we should need a massive back story.

Any other basic info you feel the need to put into an app.
Q - "Out of curiosity, will there be natural breaks in combat for things like long rests? If not, that obviously puts spellcasters at something of a disadvantage."
A - There will
not be short or long rests. This is one single battle so it's all in from the get go.
However 5E balancing assumes for one battle, not after a massive dungeon crawl. Fighters will still have only a limited number of superiority dice. Like most things it is about resource management.
