Spanning the length of Wildemount's southwest coastline along the Lucidian Ocean, the Menagerie Coast is a lush, rain-swept, tropical region filled with scattered forests and jungles, rocky seaside cliffs and beaches, overgrown islands, and bustling trade routes that traverse the perilous seas. The coast is ruled by a nation comprised of seven city-states whose cultural and political leaders have united to form the Clovis Concord. This land is known far and wide as a place for lively trade, vibrant art, performance, and excellent food-as well as the indulgence of vice, piracy, and illicit business.

Five of the seven cities have open shipping ports, supporting a robust economy of goods, services, and contraband. The Myriad crime syndicate has had its hands in the affairs of the concord for decades, and while officials publicly deny that the Myriad is still active along the Menagerie Coast, local guildmasters and politicians fear that the Myriad is stronger than ever.

The major cities that comprise the Menagerie Coast are Port Damali, Feolinn, Othe, Nicodranas, Gwardan, Port Zoon, and Tussoa. Beyond the coastal cities, the Swavain Islands are scattered across the Lucidian Ocean, bearing shipping posts, dangerous reefs, and ancient secrets hidden in the bellies of hungry jungles. The pirates of the Revelry stalk the oceanic trade lanes, hassling merchants, marines, and adventurers alike. As any adventurer will attest, all this danger guarantees that travel along the Menagerie Coast is an anxious, thrilling, and profitable experience-if you know where to look.

 


Adventure SynopsisOnly a few days ago, Brokenbank's de facto leader. Since Brokenbank lacks the strong cultural identity of the mainland city-states, the concord doesn't recognize it as an official city with a marquis. Mazin performs the duties of a marquis without the title or respectPortcaller Mazin Fahreed, of Brokenbank is a coastal settlement built along the beautiful northern beaches of the island of the same name. Its bustling docks are filled with foreign ships coming and going at a moment's notice. Despite its muddy streets, Brokenbank plays an important role in the trade business of the Menagerie Coast, as it is its first major entry port.Brokenbank reported a bizarre crash-landed ship on the other side of the island but has no A well-paid guard force that works for the governing marquis to enforce the laws.Zhelezos to spare to investigate. The characters are about to set sail from The second-largest city of the coast, Nicodranas is similar to its larger sister city, Port Damali. Although it lacks the bustle of the unofficial capital, Nicodranas is preferred by travelers who dislike the crowds and rapid pace of Port Damali.Nicodranas to Brokenbank as part of a team assembled to investigate, on a vessel named The Voyage. This caravel is owned by Zhafe is a distant relative of Lord Athesias Uludan of the Cerberus Assembly; his placement within the concord was primarily a diplomatic concession to maintain a positive relationship with the empire.Marquis Zhafe Uludan and has a crew of twenty led by Captain Arveene Greysail.

Your character is traveling to Brokenbank for one of the following reasons:
  • The character signed up for the expedition after Marquis Uludan's representatives dispersed fliers asking for volunteers.
  • The character belongs to a wealthy merchant family. Due to their connections, you were drafted onto The Voyage to prove your worth and earn prestige for your family.
  • The character is an existing member of the crew of The Voyage. They are mostly mercenary sailors from the Coast.
  • The character is a member of the Zhelezo. They have been tasked with keeping the crew safe from pirates.
  • The character is a messenger from Brokenbank, who came to Nicodranas with news of the disturbance and are traveling back with The Voyage and her crew.
  • The character is a members of the Cerberus Assembly, and have been commanded by their superiors to check out this crash, and see if any treasure has been left behind.
  • The characters committed a crime in Nicodranas, and are looking to flee the city.



Character CreationWe will be using the Heroic Chronicle (as presented in the EGtW) to roll random results for your characters (homeland, background, etc.). All information needed to create your character can be found HERE. Rolls made during character creation should be made HERE. DO NOT make any rolls in this thread.

Starting Level: 1
Ability Scores: Standard 27-Point Buy
Races: Any, as determined by the heroic chronicle
Classes: Any official

Note: Players may roll up to two different characters, but please only submit one of them as part of your application. In addition, you may re-roll one roll per character as you go through character gen, if you like.

Another Note: While I am familiar with Critical Role, please know that I will likely handle locations and NPCs differently than how presented on the show, so please do not expect a 1:1.

Prophecies (Immediate, Long Term, Character Arc):To find a juicy secret to bring back to the clan to expand their ranking with the Pirate King. To see the destabilization of some of the other kingdoms to expand the grasp of the Revelry. To end up in command of his own ship and crew.

Character History:Modrem was born to an enterprising family in the heart of Port Zoon. The second youngest of the family, he tagged along with the rest and always got the hand-me-downs as they grew up. It was an interesting life and he managed to meet a lot of people in a lot of places in Zoot. A part of a large house, he never wondered as a kid how his parents managed to feed them or live in the nicest house on the street. He just assumed they were good at their job. During his teen years however he started to catch on that some of the many uncles and aunts that stopped by from time to time weren't really relative and that everything his parents did wasn't exactly above water. They weren't pirates or thugs, but information traders. Selling secrets, inventions, prototypes, and good old fashion rumors to the Reverly in exchange for pay offs and favors. His oldest brother had had many fights with them late and night and moved out a few years ago. He now started to realize why, but either way, he was determined to make his parents proud. He confronted them one evening and told them he wanted to join. They laughed it off but a few months, later they started to have him assist them. At first, it was small things. Distract that guard, keep a look out, and so on. Eventually it grew until he started to run deliveries for them. It was during one, he meet what was to become one of his best friends, Kigran Distak, a city guard. His parents paid him to look the other way every now than when they needed to move a box out of the city or sneak in a letter. During one of those times, Kigran and him were having a meeting when another young guard wandered over during their meeting. Things went bad and well Modrem took his first life that night. The two dumped the body in the sewer and swore to secrecy.

During those last years of training, Modrem started to sprout views more and more hostile to the Clovis Concord in his own. He met his brother a few times around the city in various pubs and restaurants but the meetings always went terribly and ending with one of them storming out. His brother could never believe that the sweet innocent young man was becoming this die-hard zealot dedicated to overthrown the Concord. He started to believe that this person was no longer his brother, but that his parents had "sold" him to a demon or some other foul being in exchange for favors.

Many years later, Modrem was brought in as a full member of the Reverly and left to purse his own fortunes. He could never favor the hands off approach his parents used but he doesn't have a family to feed and care for. His mother told him stories of his father and some of the stunts he used to pull when he was young. Ones that Modrem was determined to beat. Travelling by ship and carriage, he roamed up and down the coast looking for stories and rumors before sending them along to his parents or contacts. He just happened to be hanging out in laying low well trying to avoid being caught up fighting the wrong nobleman's son when the call went out about the crash. Signing up, he grabbed his gear and quickly got on board.

Reason to be on ship:The characters committed a crime in Nicodranas, and are looking to flee the city.

Yes, black powder weapons have been invented, but are generally only used by the military. It is possible to find black powder pistols and rifles on the black market, but characters would not be able to start with these items.

Both the Menagerie Coast setting and the Heroic Chronicle character creation mechanics are new to me, definitely intrigued and interested.

Are variant humans allowed, since I rolled a Human as race?

Character Arc: To find a place where she belongs with people she loves.
Character History: Rosa has always been alone. Her parents abandoned her just after she was born, and she was left on a doorstep in the town of Shadycreek Run. Growing up alone on the streets, she was interested in magic and the arcane. But one day, a spell she did went wrong and she was left permanently disfigured, a scar all along the left side of her head and neck, eye missing, ear torn to shreds. Since that day, everyone shunned her, and she turned to dark magic, becoming a warlock. She then learned of the Volstruckers, who murdered in cold blood. Being young and impulsive, she joined them and participated in their dirty work. One day she realised that this wasn't the path she wanted to take. She had been a Volstrucker Agent for some years now, and had turned to drink as a hard vice to ease the pain of murder. She managed to get out from the control they had over her, and ended up in Brokenbank fleeing from the Cerberus Assembly.

Few questions:
  1. The roll regarding allies and rivals identity apply to all allies and rivals, correct?
  2. What happens when rolling for race I roll below the "other races" demographic (I rolled 3 on race in a character whose origin settlement is Rexxentrum [other races 5%])?
  3. Is TCE's custom origin (the "floating" racial bonus) allowed?
  4. Is multiclass allowed?
  5. Do you allow non-elves to learn Bladesong?

Character History: Lothar came to be in the picturesque city of Deastok, nestled along the southwestern edge of the Dwendalian Empire. Even at a young age, Lothar was marked as different. His relatively affluent family, though not noble by any means, were both blessed, and raised up by his miracle. As is customary at the birth of an Angelic offspring, a Divine calling usually sets one's life on a path marked apart from the mundane. Lothar was taken before the Idolmaster, Lord Truscan, and sent to The Righteous Brand for training in service to the Empire. By the time Lothar was able to return home from his "Education" by the state, he found that there was no longer and record or memory of the Kurrigan name. The fine cobblestone streets of the city bypassed entirely where he thought his home should be.

No longer having any place to return to, Lothar retreated inward, hardening himself against the outside world, and it was this pain mixed with his miraculousness, that first gained the interest from the Cerberus Assembly. Having need to test their young apprentice, the Assembly sent him all across Xhorhas to gauge not only his skills as an agent of the King, but his ability to survive unpredictable outcomes. Though many who were sent along with him perished over the journey, Lothar managed to return back to his new masters. Thus earning a spot in the Volstrucker.

Lothar was recruited, tested, for a specific mission. He had earned the right to be sent to Nicodranas. Where he was to infiltrate the investigation of the crashed ship, and learn any valuable secrets that it, or Brokenbank, held that might be of interest to his Masters.

I'm a bit frazzled by the Social Status table.. Like my pc is a Noble, but I rolled 'guild artisan' on the social status table.. does that mean that people consider the pc at the same level of a good scribe? and for allies/enemies, do I count as noble or guild artisan? or I wasn't supposed to roll on that table because it was the same role(and roll) as the background?

That would fall under the other races, so you can pick any race not specifically represented in the demographic

Yes, I will allow this. For those not familiar, you can : take any ability score increase you gain in your race or subrace and apply it to an ability score of your choice. If you gain more than one increase, you can't apply those increases to the same ability score, and you can't increase a score above 20.

I am inclined to say no here, but if you can make a good enough explanation as to how your non-elf character learned blade-singing, then I will consider it.

@ Remorazz
Your background is noble, that would not change. But, for some reason, you're generally seen as an artisan by others. Perhaps you were born into a wealthy noble family but rejected them and became an artisan elsewhere. Perhaps you are a noble who has a penchant for inventing and has a lab or workshop where you work, and that is primarily how others see you. Lots of options there. Of course, you could also use that as your re-roll for that character and get a different social status.

Correct me if I am wrong here. But since he rolled a 3, would that not make him human, and not an other? 3 falls between 1 and 81, Dwarves would be 82-89, Halflings 90-95 and other 96-100?

Thank you, Alemar. I had that completely backwards. Yes, 3 would make the race a human.

@Everyone A question has been raised about Hollow Ones, a race/curse present in Wildemount. Yes, these can be allowed, but are not common. If a player rolls a 100, they will have the option of choosing their race and applying the Hollow One rules to it. More information about Hollow Ones can be found in the races section of the Character Creation thread linked in the initial post.

This looks awesome, that table was really fun to roll on. I already have ideas for a character forming in my head. Will be posting it soon.
