“Hello freighter number seven…is there anybody home?”

Game Name“Hello freighter number seven…is there anybody home?”
Game SystemWEG d6 1e, Star Wars RPG
ThemeMysterious happenings in the Old Republic
FlavourStar Wars Survival
Plot SummaryIn the morning of what would usually be a normal follow-up run to a delivery of Dothorium Power Extractors to Dantooine, the captain and crew of Freighter 7-D from Corellia’s Gudun Courier Service have found themselves no longer in the rim-space they expected to be in. Instead of seeing the pleasant blue orb of Dantooine filling their portholes as they had restocked and refuelled, there is only an enormous cats-eye pulse star, with a black-red corona indicating that something just wasn’t quite right. Consulting the astromech charts, the closest approximation the crew has to where they presently are is somewhere far from the outer rim. With limited supplies and resources at their disposal, the crew must make it back to Corellia and uncover the mysterious reason behind their translation across the galaxy. Could it be something to do with the defeated Mandalorians of almost 200 years ago, or is there something more sinister at hand here?

May the Force be with them.

This is a d6 WEG 1e Star Wars game. Any species welcome. Looking for 4-6 players. 18 die to put in attributes and another 12 die for skill specialisation on top of that. Hi there, nice to see more West End Star Wars around. I'm thinking about applying, but no promises yet, as I have a great amount of games I am in right now.

Three questions: What's the post rate? I could do twice a week as a player, but not much more than that consistently.
Is this supposed to be a one-shot game?
Would you consider allowing a Sluissi? There are official rules for them in the "Dark Force Rising" sourcebook, the second part of the material on the Thrawn Trilogy, which was published for first edition (WEG40058). I only ask because they have 13 racial attribute dice (so 19 in total) and receive 4 extra skill points to be put into technical skills on top of the 12 normal ones (though that is balanced by the fact that they take twice as much time to do anything with these skills). It's one of the races that I would be interested in playing, but if it seems too powergamey then that cuts down on my list.

Save to say I am most interested in playing the pilot or the engineer right now, though depending on what interest you get I can also pivot to more of a broker, or even the "muscle". There are so many species to go around, so I'm pretty easy.

Hi Phettberg,

I’ve not read those particular sourcebooks but happy to take your word for it and allow any race you’d like. It’d be great to have you, if you can find time.

As for post rate I would approximate 1-2/per week. I am happy to be more or less flexible as a group requires so I won’t pin myself to an exact figure yet.
As for being a one shot, I have larger machinations planned that could expand to be a campaign if folks prefer (particularly if those that are force sensitive want to get fully Jedi’d). As the intention is to have the crew make there way back from the far regions of the galaxy, it has a lot of stretching power.

Alright, I'm not 100% settled on a Sluissi yet anyway, but good to know I have the option.

One more question actually: I play the revised second edition, so I don't know if this has something to do with this being in the first, but it feels like there may be some skills missing from your list above. Would you like to keep the starting characters restricted to what's on your template? Are there just fewer skills in first edition?

Specifically, I was looking at TEC skills, since my proposed character would likely focus on those, and there is no Armor Repair, Blaster Repair, Civic Engineering, Starship Weapons Repair, Capital Ship repair etc. I'm not likely to dip into a lot of those, but Blaster repair and Starship weapons were the ones that I would potentially like my character to have.

There are a couple of skills missing (lightsaber melée, and the force skills) but yes, I believe 1e had a smaller skill list. No wild dice either which I know might catch some by surprise.

Starship weaponry = starship gunnery and the other repairs are more dependent on the particular thing you’re fixing.

Just to clarify are you going to use wild die or not?

As I understand that removing the wild die removes a lot of the heroism in the narrative and makes it more realistic. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I was asking about starship weaponry repair, which may or may not be a skill in the first edition, same goes for the others. I know the function of gunnery.

But basically 'stick to this list', got it. I'll kick back and think about potential characters, see who else might be interested.

No, we won’t be using the wild die as it was a 2nd edition addition. I don’t know if I would phrase it just like that but I know what you mean.

@Phettberg
I hope I didn’t come across as condescendIng. That wasn’t my intention. As I’ve said, minus the lightsaber melée and force skills, the skills in my table just come directly from the 1e character sheet. I haven’t read all the source books so, as before with specific species, I’m happy to allow other additions when they are pointed out to me.

There's no problem. As I said I'll just let my ideas percolate while I wait to see what other people interested might put forward as a character.

Another technical question though: There is a surprising amount of skill dice to spend (it's 7D in revised 2e), but then I also realised that it says "skill specialization" rather than just "skill". In later editions that means a narrower application of a skill - i.e. raising a skill means raising "Blaster", while raising a skill spec. means raising "Blaster (Blaster Pistol)", which does not apply to Blaster Rifles.

So just to make sure, is that what that means? Or is it 12D to be spent on broad skills as can be found in the template above?

Actually expanding on spending the points - I assume that the "max 6" rule applies to the end result, not the amount of skill dice added, am I right? I.e. if I had DEX 5D I could only spend another dice on blasters, I could not spend another 6D.

You’re right in more or less all your assumptions- and yes 12 skill die rather than 7. There were no skill specialisations in 1e (in the core at least), so blasters stands for rifles and pistols both. Only grenades and heavy weapons (turrets, cannon, etc.) are separated. Just to be clear in case any potential new players are interested:

You have 18 die to apply to all your attributes (bolded sections, Dex, Perception, etc.). All skills associated with that attribute have a base number of die equal to your attribute die. E.g. if your Dex has 4 die, then your blaster skill also has 4 die automatically as it’s base. You then have another 12 die to spread around all skills to raise them. No skill can be higher than 6 at this character creation stage. So to continue the example from above, if I wanted to raise my blaster skill to 6, I would have to spend 2 die from my pool of 12 leaving me with 10 left to put anywhere else.

Edit for further clarification: also if you wish to be force sensitive, mention it in your bio. It has no mechanical advantages by itself (though I will make use of it narratively and situationally) but will enable you to take force training later on if you find a suitable master.

It has been a long time since I played anything d6. I'd need to read up on the rules again. I'd love to play a chadra-fan mechanic.
