Vyxleoux Caus'thaereon Xanderfell

Vyxl pushed the worry from his mind, he'd seen it all before, the wrath of man. He was no longer worried by the blacksmith's statement, but nodded at the man's caution. I'll deal with that threat when I'm back at the castle.

"Thanks for the information and the word of caution. Always have been curious about that place. Maybe I'll be able to convince these two to raid it with me when it finally opens...if it ever opens that is."

He looks to Thomos, who chimes in just as things start to get silent. "Yeah, I'm done. Where to next?" he says with a wave .

Victor"No, I think that will be all," the angelkin replied to Thomos. "I would like to return in the morning to get the copy of that book though. Would I need to go all the way to the library again or could I just pick it up at the gate?"

Adigal's Fortress"I can meet with Archivist Mira and leave it at the gate, or if you prefer simply deliver it to the Circle when it is ready." Runner Thomos informs Victor, as he begins escorting the group back to the gatehouse.
"You will be staying there tonight, I expect?" He continues, meaning the tavern you'd visited earlier in the day. "Estys keeps a clean enough place, and there's always a room available out back."

Kosk"Sounds good to me," Kosk said to Thomos, "thank you for your hospitality." He inclined his head in a gesture of gratitude. Whew. This actually went well, he thought. "Is there anything else we need?" he asked of his companions.

Victor"Thank you," the inquisitor replied, "Having it delivered to the the tavern would be quite beneficial, otherwise the portal would be sufficient." The less they had to treck back and forth to this fortress the sooner they could rejoin with the others, providing they were still alive of course. "No, there is nothing else here. Let us return to the tavern for the night. Thank you again, Thomos," Victor said as he offered his hand to shake.

With everything they cared to take care of done, the party of three made their way back to the little town they had passed through before, stopping at the tavern to inquire about rooms for the night. "How much for a room for the night," he asked of the man behind the bar.

Vyxl followed the others to the tavern, he recognized it from earlier, and the man inside who he now knew as "Estys." He kept silent as much as possible, too tired from the events of the day to really care about much else. His feet ached to remove his tattered boots. He thought quickly about the magic he would prepare for tomorrow, and although he didn't like being on the defensive, he figured he would prepare a way to vanish from sight if the time called for it.

SantmareThomos takes Victor by the hand and gives a firm but gentle handshake, then nodding back at Kosk. "My pleasure. Until tomorrow." The scout states, taking his leave. Now you know that certain etiquette is still practiced here.

Estys looks up as the saloon door swings open, and greets the group once more. "Back so soon?" He asks. "Guess the overnight room's better than camping. Normally three crowns a piece, but make it 2 and I'll throw in supper."
Before you can wonder why the aasimar is being so generous, he gives his reason; "Guhern passed out a short while ago, so I threw him in one of the bunks. Snores worse than a sennic rumbler, that man..."

The back of the tavern is split into three rooms. The room Estys leads you to has three bunks along the walls, and a small square table in the centre of it. A lantern, a deck of cards, a handful of dice, and a pitcher of water sit atop that.
While you get comfortable, the barkeep brings in a plate of hard bread and dried meats, two beers, and a whisky.

Sure enough, Guhern's snorting and snoring and weezing is near intolerable, but sleep comes eventually.

Kosk Wolfhook Kosk sat upright, alarmed. Weird dream. Probably something I ate. Or maybe that trumpet, he thought, frowning at the snoring. He creeps out of his bed and back to the main room of the tavern, just to check. If he finds nothing out of the ordinary, he attempts to resume sleeping.

Vyxl was greeted by the snores of the drunk, cursing under his breath How in the hells am I supposed to concentrate with that noise. He shook his head, kicking off his boots, and setting down his gear. He pulled up the drinks, finishing off the ale first, saving the whiskey for last so that he could savor it. He ate his meat first, then finished off the bread. He pulled out an old rugged book, something that looked almost as if it should be falling apart. He flipped through the pages, its writing in a strange language, found the passages he was looking for, and began to study while sipping on his Whiskey.

More than a couple times Vyxl debated about slitting the man's throat in his sleep, but knowing what would happen if he did, he decided to stuff his ears with some of the wax from the candle. Although the noise was still there, it wasn't as bad as it had been, and finally he drifted off. Morning came swiftly, and Vyxl immediately cleared out his ears of the wax, allowing them to pressurise to the natural air.

He gathered his things, putting the necessary items away in their place before going to eat breakfast.

VictorIt was almost fate that the snoring man gave them a discount on the room. Without it, they would not have all been able to stay the night, though it was pretty obvious that Vyxl and Kosk may have preferred other arrangements. But it was a safe place where they could rest for the night before heading out to find the other teleportation stone guardian.

The meal that was brought was satisfying as well. Something hot and fresh with a decent ale really hit the spot. After he had finished eating, Victor spent a while studying the map and calculating how long they might have to gain allies before having to worry about an attack. He was fairly certain that it wouldn't be long enough and wished he could have gotten a better read on the smith as to whether or not revealing themselves would have helped with their situation.

It was too late now though. They had received plenty of information, a map and were going to be getting a history book of sorts in the morning. At least that would help make a few decisions about who to trust and where they might find allies.

With that thought in his head, Victor fell asleep, mostly undisturbed throughout the night.

The Worker's CircleWaking to a quiet dawn is unexpected after last night's noisome rest. Guhern is gone, leaving only bloodstained sheets to account for his earlier presence.

Kosk finds that he has a tiny puncture mark in the sole of his foot, as though he'd stepped on something last night. Shaking out his boot reveals a few specks of gravel from the road, a teaspoon of dirt, and a tiny piece of thorned plant. Checking the taproom reveals nothing out of the ordinary, however.

Victor figures the patrol should pass back by the Chateau tonight or tomorrow, if it ranged as far as he suspected. At any rate, a simple patrol couldn't hope to take on the group they'd left behind. It was a safe assumption that a patrol sent to recon familiar lands would take their time walking, and not use teleportation shrines, so it might take them another four or five days to report back with their findings.

Vyxl succeeds in resting enough to restore his spells. Although the other tiefling was an annoyance, he had had worse nights sleep.

As Archivist Mira and Runner Thomos had estimated delivery of the book sometime later in the afternoon, the trio may either kick about the tavern and relax, or explore further.

VictorThe next morning, Victor waited for the other two to join him. He had chosen a table that was as far from the door and bar as possible so they might be able to have a gushed conversation without any evesdropping. Pulling the map out again, the angel-kin continued to study it until Kosk and Vyxl joined him.

"You managed to find a way to look more like Hell than normal, Vyxl," he jested as the fiend-kin joined the table. "We won't be able to afford any sort of breakfast today unless we can find some money or offer to work for it. We spent the last of what we had just getting the rooms last night." It wasn't that they were broke entirely, just that their old world money was unlikely to be accepted here.

"I did some calculations based on this map last night and in the best case scenario we have about seven days before the local patrols find and report the Chateau; five in the worst case. We need allies and quickly. Any ideas?"

KoskKosk was surprised at Victor - was this sort of thing normal? "You don't seem alarmed by the bloodstains; is it normal for people in taverns or inns to disappear?" These old-world people were odd. "There is also this," he says, pointing to his foot, "I had a dream of plants choking the village. I left the tavern, chasing a rat, but lost it and stepped on a thorn. I woke up then, but now have a wound on my foot that wasn't there before." Kosk was superstitious as a rule - being brought up with tales of bhargests will do that - and saw this as a very bad omen at best and something supernatural at worst. "At least, I don't remember it there..."

On the topic of allies, Kosk only had a guess. "It all depends on what you have to offer. If you're from before, perhaps you have something a potential ally doesn't, something from before? The garrison," he said, pointing a thumb over his shoulder, "sounded like they might be of some help. Though I'd wager not for free."

Victor"Perhaps you did not notice as much about out loud friend last night. Guhern was his name. Looked as though he had been punished quite fiercely and was trying to drink it off. Most likely took off in the early hours while we slept," Victor replied to Kosk. "As for the thorn, there were some thorned plants at the entrance of Adigal's fortress, perhaps you stepped on one by accident and were just reminded of it in your sleep?"

Coming down to eat breakfast was a chore in itself, although he technically got enough rest, he didn't feel very well at all. He gave a sarcastic smile at Victor before sitting down, "What would you know of the Abaddon angelkin? Sure, you might be able to look down on us from your high throne, but in the end you'll never understand." he cut himself off before he could say anything further, putting a glass of water to his head in a failed attempt to ease his headache. "That Guhern 'bout kept me up all night."

He looks at Kosk, then closes his eyes for a second. "Anyway. I agree with Victor in that we need allies. Problem is we don't have much to offer..." his voice trails off as a thought comes into his mind. "Evari. That woman who you travelled with bared on her body, and in her soul the magic of Abaddon. If there are other people like her in this world, they will need training to be able to harness that power, and since we have some of the old world's best magi, we might be able to use that as a leeway. Vyxl shrugs at the thought, not even sure himself if it would work.
