Are past players who were in this campaign when it first went on hiatus able to re-apply? I would love to breathe some life back into Luminara if you'll have me.

Application: Luminara Starshimmer Name: Princess Luminara Starshimmer Race: Human Class: Summoner (Synthesist archetype) Alignment: CG Appearance: Lulu is a fairly ordinary young girl - at least she never thought of herself as anything special. She always lagged behind her peers in height, and physical development in general, often causing her to be mistaken for younger than she is - a misconception her softly rounded cherubic face and her wide, guileless eyes do little to dispel. When not merged with her Eidolon, Lulu dresses very simply, in a common peasant dress made of plain cloth that typically carries a layer of dirt on its hem, and heavy boots far too big for her that give her a somewhat clownish appearance. There is a brightness to her smile that can be infectious, though.   Lulu When she merges with her Eidolon, all of that changes: she no longer looks anything like a simple peasant farmgirl. Instead Princess Luminara Starshimmer appears as a tall, robust warrior encased in ornate, golden, glowing, magical armor. All her bumbling clumsiness is suddenly replaced by majestic grace and power, and her typically unruly hair grows longer, and yet manages to stay out of her way far better than when she is “just herself.”   Princess Luminara Starshimmer Personality: Lulu is ever the bright and cheerful optimist, who prefers to see the best in others and views strangers as simply friends she hasn’t met yet. She sees the world as a fundamentally good place full of good people and can’t quite bring herself to believe that anyone could ever knowingly and intentionally be “evil” without reason, which makes her more interested in figuring out what causes some people to behave badly (since there must be a reason, right?) and sees beating people up as a last (though sometimes necessary) resort. Place of Origin: Lulu is definitely not native to the Forsaken Plane. However, I don’t actually know enough about Golarion lore to say where she’d be from (somehow all of the Pathfinder games I’ve played have been set in home-brew worlds. Is it okay to say she’s from a home-brew place, or should I go do some research on Golarion?   Step 1: Background 1) Many generations ago, a demon horde invaded Lulu’s homeworld. In order to defend against them, Lulu’s ancestor, Queen Lucia, summoned a powerful outsider and bound it to herself. 2) When Lucia grew old, the eidolon passed on to her heir and daughter, beginning a long line of hereditary mystic warriors. 3) Though powerful enough to fend off demon hordes, Lulu’s great-grandmother was unable to defend her family against the sort of standard political intrigue that allowed a usurper to steal the throne. 4) Lulu was raised secretly in exile, as a simple farmgirl, with no knowledge of her family heritage. 5) When Lulu’s mother was killed, the ancestral eidolon was passed on to Lulu, along with the mantle and responsibilities of the Mystic Knight, protector of her home land. It has been a steep learning curve for her since then. Step 2: Goals 1) Princess Luminara’s ambition is to one day overthrow the cruel dictator who stole her family’s throne and restore justice to her people. 2) As a player, I would like to see how long Lulu is able to hold on to her innocence and optimism in a dark gothic world. Step 3: Secrets 1) Despite the amazing power that comes from merging with her eidolon, deep down a part of Lulu just wishes she could go back to being a normal farmgirl. 2) Although Lulu (and in fact most of her ancestors) have always believed their family eidolon to be a celestial, Nyxx is actually a rogue devil who sought to break away from his archdevil overlords, largely because Hell is just a terrible place to spend eternity. After centuries of “pretending” to be good, the innocence and purity of his mortal hosts has begun to rub off on him. Though not particularly evil (he wasn’t that bad to begin with, just too much a hedonist to cut it as an angel), he is still far from being redeemed since his motivations are primarily selfish. Step 4: Characters of Note 1) Iridessa “Dessa” Starshimmer (deceased): Lulu’s mother and the previous Mystic Knight. She was largely absent during Lulu’s childhood in an effort to keep Lulu’s existence a secret. 2) Leon Fallwether (AKA Leon Starshimmer): After Lulu was born, Dessa left her with her brother Leon, who lived as a small farmer. Since Lulu never knew her father, and her mother was rarely around, Uncle Leon became more of a parent figure for her than anyone else. He was stern, gruff, practical, sometimes strict, but always caring. He helped instill in Lulu a strong sense of morality and humility. 3) Baron Lothos Orlon: Grandson of the man who originally usurped the throne from Luminara’s great-great grandmother. To solidify his position, he struck an allegiance with the neighboring empire, giving up his title of king to become a baron. He has since risen in the ranks to become Chancellor of the Exchequer to the Emperor, a position arguably more powerful than the king of a small city state. It was his assassins that ultimately found and eliminated Lulu’s mother. Though the Baron suspects that the line is still not fully extinct, he does not know of Luminara herself, as her mother’s efforts to hide her existence seemed to work … for now. Step 5: Memories/Mannerisms/Quirks 1) Lulu is a bit of a klutz. Even though the process of merging with her eidolon grants her unearthly grace in battle, she still manages to stumble and drop things out of sheer awkwardness when she is not fighting and her mind starts to wander. 2) She has a nervous habit of chewing on the ends of her long straw-colored hair. 3) She often thinks back to the last normal day of her life: she stole her first kiss from the stablehand, which should’ve been the greatest day in a young farmgirl’s life … then she learned of her mother’s death, her noble bloodline, and the eidolon that was her inheritance. Step 6: Why have we been chosen The Dark Powers are curious about the symbiotic relationship between Nyxx and Lulu: the devil who pretends to be an angel and the gullible child who believes him. Each possesses power on their own, but together they are truly formidable. And yet, it would be so easy to push either one of them over the edge. What, then, might happen to the other?

And the aforementioned Magical Girl appears! I would love to have Luminara back and perhaps we can tempt Subaru to come back as well! You had some great chemistry.

Unless you change something, just post your original character submission here so the others can get to know Luminara.

The same goes for the other returning players that plan to reprise their original roles. As they have been accepted previously, they may go to the interactive portion of the process immediately after they post/re-post their characters here in the thread once I get the interactive thread up on Friday after I get home from work.

@WhiteStag - I will make sure to highlight it, but the starting level for the players (to include returning ones) will be 5th just like the original game.

I've been kicking around a few character ideas and am kind of leaning away from the fighting evil with evil idea. Are we supposed to be relative new comers to the plane or are we supposed to have been around a while?

Non-natives as a general rule will be newcomers and only those elect be natives will have been "around a while".

Natives will have certain advantages initial as skills such as Knowledge (Local) and such be usable, but also will be ignorant of other things and constrained from things such as full use of Knowledge (Planes) and generally be unfamiliar with anything foreign to the Forsaken Plane or the existence of anything else aside the plane. When you get in game start generating sheets, I have a thread for world rules such as this for your reading enjoyment.

Application WIP That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die. Abdul Alhazred, Kitab al-Azif Name: Doctor Archibold "Archie" Reynolds Race: Human Class: Unchained Rogue (Phantom Thief) Alignment: CN Appearance and Personality: Thin framed (from hardly ever taking the time to eat properly), pale skin (from too much time indoors), and has has prematurely greying black hair (stress!) He is incessantly curious about the natural sciences, though due to some bad experiences he is somewhat wary of the Supernatural sciences (Arcane and Divine Spellcasting). Seemingly cold-natured, he never seems or feels like he fits in anywhere. Since joining the criminal elements of society, his speech patterns have changed, taking on a rougher edge. Place of Origin: Originally Korvosa, but moved to Ustulav after fleeing the Blood Veil Plague as a young child. Why was he chosen by the Forsaken Plane: His unholy curiosity into things which man was not meant (or simply unprepared) to know! It would no doubt tickle the Dark Powers own curiosity as to how much they could show him....before his mind simply SHATTERS!   Concept Elements: Goals: PC: Find out more about the strange world he finds himself in, and how to bend its unique properties to his use...all for the betterment of mankind, of course! Player: To see how far I can take a dedicated Skill-user in this Game. Secrets: Known: A while ago, he began self-prescribing several mood-altering substances in an attempt to deal with some unresolved issues from his mother's passing. A group of strange individuals somehow learned of this and threatened to expose him if he didn't translate a set of manuscripts (that seemed to confound Translation Magic) for them. He did so, and never saw them again. He dealt with his personal issues, but feared the group would one day return. His "problems" were eventually discovered, and his reputation suffered. He was forced to relocate, and even ended up doing "patch-up" jobs for various Criminal Gangs. This turned out to be something of a blessing, as the Bosses didn't care about his habits as long as he could fo what they paid him for. Unknown: The group were fairly unskilled adherents of The King in Yellow, and Archibold had made several mistakes in his translation! The Group tried out one of the Rituals, a Shoggoth appeared which then ate the Cultists before disappearing. The reason why he never seems to fit in is because he has a faint trace of Devil-blood in his family history. Not enough to leave a physical trace, but it seems to seep out of him at a subconscious level, keeping him and regular people at arms length. People: Mary Reynolds (Mother - Dead): Archie was very young when his Mother was taken by the Blood Veil Plague, but her death was what prompted him to take up a career in the Medical Sciences. Professor Horace Reynolds (Father - Estranged): A Wizard at Korvosa's Acadamae, he was unable to save his wife from the Plague, but was able to Teleport his son to safety while troubles wracked the City. When he thought it safe enough, he tried to bring his son home only to find that he no longer wanted to do so. Archibold had found out that the Plague had been created with Magic, so he no longer wanted anything to do with Magic or those who practiced it! The two argued, and his Father left. Archie has long relaxed his stance on Magic, but the two still do not speak. Memories, Mannerisms and Quirks: Memory: His earliest (and happiest) memories are of his mother, sparse on many details, but they are the last times he feels warm and loved. He can remember not being allowed to see his mother as she lay dying. Mannerism: Quirk: Only seems to smile when discovering or trying something new. Quirk: Tends to talk in an almost bored monotone, unless it's about something that interests him, then he becomes quite animated! Initial Sample Post:   Never Wake a Sleeping Mob-doctor! "Doc! HEY DOC!" The shout woke "Doc' Archie" from his ether-induced dream. He had fallen asleep in the study of his workshop/clinic that he also called "Home". It was pretty far out in the slums, but even the degenerates that lived round there knew not to interfere with Doc' Archie, without good reason. All of his "assistants" had gone home for the day, so he couldn't think of who was bothering him now. "WHATCHA' WANT?" He yelled out, rousing himself. "I got injured here, Doc!" Came a strained reply. The Doc' sighed, that would explain it! He was pretty much the "go-to-guy" when things went south on a job. Sure, the Priests could take a Bribe, but a lot of the guys felt guilty around Clergy, even corrupt ones. He walked out of his sitting room into what could only be described as an abattoir! Nobby-no-nose was there with four fella's, who were all cut up to one degree or another, two were unconscious, he'd have to see to them first! Alright, time ta go ta work I guess! "Nobby! Why you gettin' Red all over my floor? You know the Boss said "lay low" for a spell!" Said the Doc', working on the first guy. "Hey! It was a plumb job, no risk, nobody shoulda been around ter see!" "Huh! "No risk" Nobby!" The Doc said, waving a needle around indicating the wounded guys. "Really?" The Doc' was already working on the next guy. "Alright, small risk!" Nobby conceded. The Doc scoffed. The second guy was going to be ok. The third and fourth guys were still awake, so the Doc grabbed a couple of vials marked "Milk of the Poppy+" and handed them over for the guys to down. "Fer the pain!" He explained. "You take one too, Nobby. I'll need to work on your wound when I'm done with these two wise guys!" The others were bleeding a fair bit, but nowhere major. A short while later, Doc Whitey was surrounded by five unconscious, but otherwise healthy gangsters. Oh, and a crapton of blood. Making sure they were all out of it, he unlocked a cupboard, and brought out several sets of manacles, which he used to attach each guys leg on a line, like a sleeping chain gang. Then he went outside and sent a vagrant kid that he used as a runner to a specific address with a coded message. He turns back to the sleeping forms. "Yeah, the Boss is gonna want a word with you Nobby!" He said, then sighed. "I hope that I didn' do this work fer nothin'!"

Without a gleaning of purpose in life, we have no vision, we live in strife, -or let blood fall on a suicide knife.” Name: Rave Krayci Race: Tiefling (Oni Spawn) Class: Sphere Daevic 5 Alignment: NG Appearance: Rave is a tall, muscular young man who carries himself well, but he has a haunted look to him, the air of someone who has seen, and perhaps done, terrible things. He's got several scars, mostly hidden from view while clothed, that speak to some of those things. In that way, perhaps, he's not so dissimilar from many of the people of this damned and dark plane, but there are two things that sets him apart. First are his eyes have no whites, they are simply solid blue. The second he tries to keep hidden by his shaggy black hair hangs unkept past his shoulders and that is a small pair of white horns. Personality: Rave is friendly and quick to lend a hand to do whatever needs doing. He's also a very angry person, but his is a just, righteous anger. Place of Origin: Rave was born in the city of Metrol, in the country of Cyre, greatest country on all of Eberron. His family, however, comes from Thrane and were servants of the Silver Flame for many generations.   Step 1: Background 1) Rave, in his life back on Eberron, was a war orphan who struggled to find his way after losing his parents. For the most part, he did a poor job. 2) He died in the event that would later be called the Mourning. And he knows he died. He remembers the flow of souls around him. 3) His mother, deceased more than a decade by the time of Rave's passing saved him from Dolurrh, and bid him to do better in his next life. 4) He never had any ability to veilweave until he found himself on the Forsaken Plane. He believes it is a gift from his mother to help him find his way. 5) He regrets being a shitty person and wishes to live his life in such a way that this time his mother, where ever she might be, would be proud of him. Step 2: Goals 1) Rave wants his new life, and perhaps more importantly his next death to mean something. If he goes down defying some evil bastard, so much the better. 2) As a player, I would like Rave to have the opportunity to make a difference in a community with more than just his combat skills. Step 3: Secrets 1) Rave isn't completely sure he's got it in him to live a long life well and believes that perhaps a good death would be much easier. 2) Rave believed his father had died before he was ever born. The truth is his father was brought to the Forsaken Plane. He is also aware of Rave's arrival. Step 4: People of Note 1) Ilonca Krayci (deceased, sort of): Rave's mother, a rare Azurin (human with innate essence) . She was killed in battle shortly after Rave's 6th birthday, but she has somehow lived on in the Akashic Record and was able to use that power to grant him a second chance. 2) Jace: A young child, very likely an orphan, that was the first person Rave encountered after arriving. He helped Rave get his bearings and Rave has helped him by paying the youth well (but certainly not with charity). 3) Diego Krayci: Rave's father. Diego has plans for his son, though what they are who can say? Step 5: Memories/Mannerisms/Quirks 1) His most important memory is after he died, when his mom reached out from the Akashic record and plucked him from the flow of souls and restored him. 2) He's got a serious soft spot for kids, especially orphans. But he'd never be so crude as to give proud children handouts. 3) He's not above using intimidation to get what he wants. The way he figures things, if scaring someone a little is what gets the job done, then that's better than having to resort to violence. Step 6: Why have we been chosen Perhaps on behalf of his father. Perhaps because the dark powers noticed him and felt he was well-suited prior to his death. Perhaps because they were intrigued at someone being returned to life by a power other than divine magic. Or, perhaps out of sheer spite.

I see some very promising apps beginning to take form. I challenge applicants as they fine tune their submissions to look at core character themes and really get at the things that motivate and drive (or vice versa) their characters and what they value, because these are things that will be challenged alongside the physical challenges of the monsters and creatures that they may encounter.

I thought I would be off of work earlier, so I will not likely not get the interactive thread today, but will work to get it up and running by the start of next week. Unfortunately, there is a lot of good American football that will compete for my time this weekend...

Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind. 5 is just a minimum...more elements are encouraged!

1) The seventh son of a seventh son, Raphael grew up in a life of luxury and privilege, only to learn upon reaching adulthood that the family fortune would only be divided amongst the eldest, and he was expected to work for a living as a soldier, priest, or merchant.

2) Had opportunities to attend several schools / universities of magic, but flunked out of all of them, not for lack of talent, but for lack of applying himself.

3) Has funded the luxuries of his adult lifestyle by running various cons. He's never outright stolen; he prefers convincing people to give him their money.

4) Despite almost all evidence to the contrary so far, he believes he is meant for great things. This comes from a dash of superstition and a whole wallop of self-delusion.

5) Attempting to go straight, he served as a lead of one of his brother's merchant caravans. When bandits attacked, he inspired the guards to victory, and bravely defeated several of the thugs himself in hand-to-hand combat.

6) He returned home in victory, but learned that his lover's father had convinced her to marry another while he was gone.


Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

1a) To be landed and respected as a proper Lord, as he was born to be.

1b) To find love again.

2) To play a pivotal role, through wit, in some grand intrigue.


Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character.

1) In his inebriated self-pity, he planted false evidence against his lover's father and husband. In the clarity of morning, he tried to undo it, but he was taken before he could fix it.

2) He has fathered a child that he has no knowledge of.


Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile.

1) [Friendly] Brother Paul Kaerwick - His second youngest brother, a priest of Ilmater. They were inseparable as boys. Though they drifted apart between Paul's humble piety and Raphael's irreverent debauchery, they are still quite fond of each other. They reconciled briefly before Raphael departed on the caravan job.

2) [Friendly] Lucinne - Prostitute confidante-with-benefits. One of the few people Raphael would trust with his life, and one of the few who he'll take criticism from without too much anger.

3) [Neutral] Cecelia Meadows - She was the love of his life, and loved him in return. However, her father would not have his daughter married to a man such as Raphael, and arranged a different marriage for her. Feeling that she had little choice, she gave in, though her heart belongs only to Raphael. Still, she is determined to be a good wife to her husband, who is a decent man. Does not condone Raphael's actions against her family and struggles to come to terms with it all. Loves him regardless.

4)[Hostile] Halwell Meadows - Cecelia's father, a wealthy widower merchant. Would do anything to protect Cecelia, his only child.


Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.

1) When he was young, each of his three oldest brothers received their own hound. The next two received a healthy hound to share. He and his second youngest brother received the sickly runt of the litter. Though they both loved and cared for it as much as two young boys could, and though they prayed for its health with all their might, it died. Raphael has been bitter and cynical about the divines since that day.

2) Raphael detests wearing soiled clothing, or anything less than finery. The only thing he craves more than finery is adulation.

3)

Dark Powers Attraction Factor: Raphael is a selfish man at a pivotal point in his life, where he has, for the first time, experienced the joys of doing good. Yet even before the Dark Powers began to wrap tendrils around him, he was already sliding back into old habits.

In the past, I have permitted the swapping of abilities between archetypes so players can get their particular flavor to their characters. Let me know what ability you are proposing to swap before I make a final call, but most of the time they are not game breaking so it will probably be acceptable.
