So, I rolled an attack in preparation for a ready action and misfired with a flare cartridge. Does that do anything to me beyond not firing?

If the readied action is triggered (which it probably will unless you roll really well on Initiative), a couple of things happen. First, the shot misses like you thought. Second, the gun gets the broken condition which increases your misfire range by 4 and decreases your to hit by 2. Finally, if you misfire again the gun will explode. You can use your gunsmithing feat and an hour of downtime to remove the broken condition.
