Hearthome is remarkable for its walls, many times the height that halflings could build on their own. They are a gift from the dwarves of Higarde and have never been breached in the history of the city. Smaller buildings cluster within and crawl up in the inner wall, forming a towering city that slopes inward like a bowl. The lowest caste of society, the gnomes, live within the walls themselves. Tensions are currently high within Hearthome, as the gnomish people are finally growing strong enough to demand greater compensation for the plunder of their ancient secrets. The haughty Head Families of Hearth and Heights refuse to acknowledge they've done anything of the sort.
