Same here. I THINK I've filled all the blanks, answered the requested info.

Pretty much a newb at SR, have only really played the Video Games, not acutally a tabletop or a pbp in it. A lot of 'not done that before' to learn about.

Hi there,

I am completely new to this site, but am kind of a heavy hitter when it comes to Shadowrun Experience. More on that below.

Here goes...

Application
Character Name: Samuel Evans, aka "Crash"
Metatype: Human
Archetype: Hermetic Magician (Manipulation and detection specialist, Ritualworker) and Combat Medic
Physical description: Crash's a relatively tall (1,88m) and heavy set magician who does not work out all that much. The first thing everyone notices about him is his readily apparent, very unhealthy diet (on a good day, he weighs in at about ~135Kg), probably caused by his stressful life and career-choices. His pitch-black hair is usually cut at a little shorter than shoulder-length and neatly combed. His large body hides a very strong intellect which can be gleamed at in his stark-blue eyes most of the time.
When dressing casual, he wears a stylish business-suit which is cut in a way to hide the strongest effects of his weight (definitely tailored to him and relatively expensive). When dressed for runs, he wears a black trenchcoat and also has a longsword hanging at his side.
He also appears to be continually out of breath. If that's for show or if he's really that untrained, not many people know - He seems to make up for a lot of his physical shortcomings through his magic.

Backstory: Crash's family is followed by an extreme streak of bad luck. His father is (was, damnit! ...but good riddance.) a no-good gambler who racked up thousands of Nuyen in debt in his son's teen years, in which his family had to learn the basics of first aid in-depth because he came home with bruises, cuts and gunshot-wounds relatively often.
Just as Crash instictively took his first steps to his arcane ascension, his father's gambling addiction led to an unfortunate accident including the people he owed money to, leaving his Wife, Daughter and Son with his debts. The Russian Mob, led by a guy named Boris in his part of Seattle, knew of his magical potential and quickly and decisively told him that he inherited his father's debt. They fixed him up with easy, cheap runs and people to stitch back together for years now, intimidating every fixer who wanted to provide him with a real job and real money to buy back his family. Now, an offer has made it through, and gives him the opportunity to break his eternal cycle of servitude with the mafia.

RP Sample:

Hooks:
Who or what does your character care in life?
-Getting away from the Russian Mafia in Seattle. This includes maybe, just maybe, getting a little payback for everything Boris and Vlad have done to him over the past years. Nothing too brutal - but something creative to make them regret.

What sort of runs or activities are beyond the pale for your character?
Wetwork is something he would not consider doing, except if the pay was good enough to give him a good headstart on paying his debts. He's a relatively pragmatic character as long as this main goal is not met, and will do nearly anything to achieve it. Afterwards, however, he strives to be the best he can - giving aid to the wounded and trying to fight the organized crime he's no longer a part of.

Tell me a secret about your character

Your previous Shadowrun Experience:

I started playing SR 4 in 2009 and am still playing SR 5 today (started about 4 years ago), playing a wide variety of characters including mages, adepts, mystic adepts, riggers, Streetsams, Technomancers and deckers. So I'll try my best to fulfill the site's standards and my own when it comes to character creation :-) If you need help DMing, I could also give you some tips to get you started easily and quickly - have done so for at least 2-3 other DMs already.

Gosh, you people seem terrifyingly prepared compared to me, these applications look great. I won't be reading everything in detail until the closing date, so you're free to keep editing until then if any of you want to make any changes.

Thanks all of you for the interest you've shown!

Many of you have already seen (and applied to) it, but wanted to say here that Sarge67 is currently advertising a rolling Shadowrun 5e game for all experience levels that's more ambitious in scope than this one - Motor City Madness. I'd be applying myself if I weren't already pretty sure that running this one will be occupying much of my energy in the coming weeks. Like orichulum says in Sarge67's thread, there's no such thing as too much Shadowrun, and it's worth pitching a runner (or three?) there as well.

The app was the easy part. The fun/trouble comes when we have to actually make up the character.

Hooks:

* Who or what does your character care about in life?

He cares about getting cred, both to supply his... habits as well as supporting his sister, Eleanor, whom he cares very much about. His sister is unable to support herself due to injuries sustained one of the runs she was involved in.

* What sort of runs or activities are beyond the pale for your character?

Not much, except he will not torture people or hurt children. Other than that, he needs to make a living. Survival of the fittest, dog eat dog and all that.

Ditto, but already have equipment, too. The only thing left to do is obsessively review my own application and character sheet, making minute adjustments and adding unimportant details ad nauseum.

@bothers: Celandine is complete enough for review, but I will probably continue to tweak at the character a bit. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Application

Look, chummer! No hands!
right-aligned image
Murderbot MkIV, aka Psychokiller
Character name/Handle: Alex Wong / Hotwire
Metatype: Dwarf
Archetype: Rigger

Physical description: This dwarf has been around the block a few times (probably in a different ride every time). The progression of time and stress is just showing in his hair and the deep creases on his face. He thinks that makes him look even more dangerous, so he hasn't sought out elective surgery to keep looking young. Youth is for the juiced up runners anyway. Brains never lose their edge, or at least they haven't yet for this dwarf. Hotwire wants you to think he is as cool as an iced soycaf and everything about his style, which is a bit dated by 2050 standards, is intended to make you think that. But it doesn't take long in his physical presence or over comms to realize this dwarf has the shortest, most pouty fuse of any runner you've ever been around. Maybe that's why he uses his proxy most times. He can blame his temper on the glitchy programming of A Saeder-Krupp Direktionsekretar possibly if Rigger 5.0 is usedPsychokiller. Still, he has his uses, as do his fleet of drones.

Backstory: What do you do when you give birth to a honest to goodness dwarf, not just a human with dwarfism? You get them checked out at first, of course. Let the doctors have their way. Get documented and poked and prodded. It doesn't matter, it's just a squat little chunk of an infant after all. He won't remember. But society will remember. Chinatown has a looooong memory for such things. So when it is all said and done and the doctors and geneticists have no answer, you shove him down in the hole that fantasy novels tell you to. Well, a basement, at least. You homeschool the little inquisitive. Even when you hear of others, elves and other dwarves being born, it is still a stain...still a shame on the family. Maybe next generations will see them as lucky. For now, the internet is anonymous and an excellent teacher. No one needs know. He seems to enjoy living in the dark, alone anyway. Alex learned to parse the online world even before it was given a structure of the Matrix. He had a mind for math. He enjoyed taking things apart and rebuilding them. He learned a great deal from the unbridled computer knowledgebase and even more from working hands on. With his first jobs, he didn't even have to leave home. But the chatrooms told him of the wider world, Goblinization, wars raging, the ascendance of the Corp. He watched the Renraku Arcology go up in the Matrix. It was the gleaming future than made him step out into the world. Japanese Corps were like families. No metahuman would be born into them, at least not yet. But Alex was used to being sidelined and marginalized. This was the normal. He had skills and they augmented those skills with a Control Rig. He had run drones from his basement, they were not much different than the cockpit of a car or plane. He flew across the Pacific a few times for the execs. But as much as he knew and could do, Alex Wong did not know how to act. And the execs would have nothing to do with him after a while. Alex was fired. Oh, they still owned him, but he wasn't going to work for them anymore. No Corp could take him and none wanted him while he had the contract. Without a job and without support from his family, he fell on desperate times. Desperate times called for desperate measures as the Matrix had told him.
RP sample:

Hooks:
* Who or what does your character care about in life?
Alex has never had a relationship that lasted over a few nights. Dwarves suffer a unique kind of prejudice even among their own. So he has spent his time, money and effort towards filling that void with his collection of rapidly obsolete electronics, drones, and vehicles. He has a VIC-20 somewhere around his garage and a box of programming punch cards. One day he plans to make a real museum of the stuff. One day.
* What sort of runs or activities are beyond the pale for your character? Hotwire, despite his obvious faults, is a survivor. He has a pretty good feel for the types of jobs that make enemies and an even better feel for those that make friends. Life in Seattle is rough and getting rougher every day; you can't be too soft or it will chew you up. He's jaded, but not jaded enough to be without scruples. If outright assassination or kidnapping is on the table, there better be supporting reasons or a fully-developed game plan and endgame before it even starts.
* Tell me a secret about your character.
Your previous Shadowrun experience: I've been poking at Shadowrun since FASA first published it and tried to get and keep games going over the years in all the odd editions, 1, 3, and 5 for no other reason than that's when I stumbled back into it. I can't say I'm a Shadowrun historian. I've never read the novels or done tons of reading on the extensive canon, but I know enough to be flexible. I've played in maybe 5 or so games on the site in 5th edition and have the honor of being able to say I gave The Rat Queen her first shove toward playing SR here. This would be my first real Rigger. I thought why not do it in a quirky 2050 hybrid game?

Ok, I think Chaska is done. Let me know if anything seems off with background etc, like I said I donít have much experience with the lore here.

Cool! I've had a look and I don't see any problems in terms of narrative. Wraiths don't show up in the books until 2nd Edition (when almost nothing is known about them), but lore-wise they are thought to have existed in 2050. People in this time period aren't likely to have heard of them, so Celandine's background and motives will seem very strange, even to academically-inclined Magician types. She'll be a trained warrior fighting against a real threat whose existence 99% of people are completely unaware of.

@thofed - looks convincing to me! You've also chosen a portrait with an excellent pedigree, though given the backstory, I do wonder how he affords all that hairspray. Remember that this run is low on Decker-specific action, so you'd want to make sure Chaska is capable of making himself useful in some other way. There's also a raft of time-period specific changes to what Deckers can do (no wireless, no commlinks, no Augmented Reality, no Grid Overwatch Division), so you'd need to be prepared for some uncertainty/confusion over the rules. Nothing insurmountable, but... it's there. No wireless sounds like a small change, but it has an outsize effect on how a Decker is played, and it's a significant nerf.

@everyone, if you tell me you've finished your application, I will briefly check them over to see if there's anything I think might be an issue in terms of run structure or narrative. If there is a problem, I'll let you know directly (some of you have already heard from me!). If you don't hear from me, it's safe to assume I think your application looks good Thanks again for all your interest - I honestly only expected a handful of people to want to put themselves through this!

Naturally if you want to know how likely your character is to mechanically survive this meat grinder I've got here, then I'm the wrong person to ask. I'm only going to find that out by feeding a selection of characters into it and seeing how they look once they have been extruded from the other end. Uhm. So, good luck? I guess?
