Alignment on paper: Neutral Good
Leans towards lawful, but is struggling with the unfamiliar concepts of corrupt and repressive laws.
Erdrath was born to the elder of his village, an accomplished sorcerer. As he grew older, his father noticed his force of personality and strength of will, and thought that the bloodline had bred true, so began instructing him in the refinement of the sorcerer's art. While the young Erdrath seemed to learn his lessons, there was always a peculiarity to his spellcasting, and he always had to work harder than his father though he would. One day his father noticed to his amazement Erdrath healing the wounds of a family hound that had run afoul of a boar in the forest, and realised that his son's magic, while innate, came through stranger conduits than even he could comprehend, and sent him to the Magisterium at Port Ice to be taught where his power came from and how to use it. At the Magisterium, his instructors explained to him that if he was to use his own magic, born of his father's blood and his celestial heritage, he would, with the correct study, be able to learn any spell in existence. But they also cautioned him that due to the focus involved, he would never approach the variety of spells that a wizard could master, but that by searching for different applications of the same magic he could still become a great mage. So Erdrath set to work, learning how to adjust his spells on the fly, and he finally felt like he was learning his magic.
The Magisterium of Port Ice was hugely well connected, and relied on many favours to allow it's strange mix of teachings to exist, as many in church hierarchies disapproved of the arcane being allowed to mix with their powers, and some universities of wizardry similarly looked down their noses at the Magisterium and would often refuse to supply it or it's students. So when the Lord Mayor of Restov asked them to send a student to explore and tame the Stolen Lands, they obliged. While they were loath to send a truly powerful magister to aid a relatively small town, a novice student was deemed to be enough of a gesture to earn themselves some goodwill, and they sent Erdrath, who had impressed with his personality and level-headedness, to be part of the mission.
