Now you've got me wondering. I just read your judgememts and feedback and if you don't mind me asking. I addressed a concern with searching. Is that just me? Am I just addressing weird off the wall things about your adventure?

And again congrats on the win sir.

Congrats to everyone, on a hard-fought competition - and to Inem, for writing at a consistently high standard throughout. You did not win this competition by luck.

Congratulations Inem and everyone who participated. I must say every round made it incredibly hard for me to distinguish a winner. There was an immense amount of creativity in Iron DM this year and I would be lying if I didn't say that there were lessons learned that I could take to my own games a long the way. So despite how challenging judging could be, you all made it a very rewarding experience.

As others have noted I do not think that it can be said enough that the amount of effort Hugga put in to keep this thing running smoothly was nothing shy of amazing. He does a phenomenal job and definitely deserves recognition.

I already look forward to what next year brings!

Congrats Inem on a hard-fought victory!! And Rolzup, you were definitely a most worthy finalist—your submission from the previous round was probably my favorite.

I admit I've never met a party who would encounter a dead body in an alley and not search it. Except for maybe complete beginners who hadn't figured out skills yet, in which case I would consider it the DM's responsibility to point out that searching was an option. I did consider the problems if no one found the shopping list, but that particular DC is indeed chosen so that one of the four level 10 characters is very likely to make it. Also, taking 10 is a simple option for succeeding here (if no one in the group has a +10 perception bonus at this level then something has gone horribly wrong). So with all that I figured it was ok to make finding the list dependent on a search check. Again, I've never had a party who wouldn't search things, and if I did I'd consider it sort of unfair as the DM to never point out to them that they need to be searching things...because clearly there is some miscommunication going on or there are inherently different conceptions of how things work. Both things that can be fixed with a quick OoC discussion.

Thanks everyone. I look forward to seeing what next year brings as well! And in the meantime I look forward to polishing that lovely black badge (once I get it) while I wait for next year

This is true. I guess what I saw was a weak spot in your story were anybody proficient at derailing a game (weather it is purposeful or not) can eaily do so there. I could see it happening now.

Player: I burn the body
DM: ... Um why would you burn the body?
Player: Well because that is proper burial procedure.
DM:
DM: !
Player: Um are you ok?
DM: I quit.

Or something else to that effect . Oh and come to think of it I haven't met a party who doesn't search anything either. Only heard stories of one... You may be right Inem a "Shame on you" for whoever the DM was of that game. Well this has been entertaining thanks for sharing with me Inem your thoughts on this.

Now I think you were saying something about polishing something black.

I went ahead and found you some polishing supplies hope they last long time.
