Name: Kerwin Powell

Race: Human (maybe Variant)

Class: Wizard (Transmutation)

Background: Guild Artisan (Alchemists and Apothecaries)

Description / Personality: Kerwin was not a hero. Standing not much taller than five feet and as rotund as an autumn pumpkin, Kerwin could have been mistaken for a beardless dwarf. He hadn't the physique nor the mental tolerance for such nonsense. What he did have was a gods given talent for alchemy...sometimes. Just as often as not, his creations would have a different affect. This is how we learn but this is also small solace for those who are provided a faulty potion.

His spellcasting was far more sound than his magical brewing but it just didn't have the flair, the excitement. Besides, being a wizard always carried negative connotations along with it and those were bad for business. But an alchemist? That was what the people demanded. And they were willing to hand over their hard-earned coins for an alchemists services. Those same folk would just as soon run from a wizard.

So, Kerwin kept his alchemical recipes mixed into his book with his spells to keep up appearances. He didn't wear a big long pointy hat or carry around a long stick. He wasn't obsessesed with moons and stars and he certainly wasn't about to summon a demon. However, he wasn't above profiting off of them. When he heard that the town of Oakhurst was having issues with demons, devils and all things occult, he hitched his mule to his cart and headed off for the accursed village. Fear was a great motivator and people who were afraid wanted to be reassured. Who better than the alchemist with his magic potions to make the populace feel better about their odds of surviving the next demon assault than with one of Kerwin's magical brews.

Adelaide Darkdraft
right-aligned image
Adelaide Darkdraft was a very short woman, for a human, standing only about 4'7", with long curly red hair, and a wide strong build that almost looked like a dwarf. It didn't take Gillindan long to learn that she preferred fighting to resolve all problems, and as it turns out, she was very good at winning arguments that way. Her swordsmanship was beyond par for her young age of 21. Her journey to seek out the Hooded Lantern came after a recent incident where a local boy in her home town of Riverbend showed signs of demonic possession. Hakkouth Granitehorn had caught wind of it, and worked with her to destroy the evil corruption before Hakkouth sent her along to train further with Gillindan.

Oren Kyre
Race: Half Elf
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Background: Soldier
Class: Warlock
Alignment: NG
Sheet

Current day
It's been a year since Oren set out from the Old Temple to the village of Oakcrest in search of the damsel, Isabella. It was nothing short of a despicable black dragon holding her, one that almost took Oren's life. If it hadn't been for Daybreak, Oren would have surely died attempting to play the part of a hero. He met Daybreak in the deep forest several miles from the dragon's cave, and through some uncanny magical influence, released her from her tree as his companion. Indeed, the twisted magical influences didn't stop there, and ended up transforming the innocent dryad into a stunning tiefling with no memory of her former form, except for a deep kinship with nature.

Oren swore to protect Oakcrest because he knew there were forces well beyond him vying for control of the area. It wasn't just strange magics affecting Daybreak, another temple in the region was corrupted, as were several people in the town and Isabella. In fighting to drive the demonic powers back, Oren watched Daybreak get sucked into one of the lower planes and, not forsaking her, he jumped through to rescue his companion or die trying.

Together they negotiated their way free of the demon queen Fierna's stronghold, with the help of Lux, an imp that Oren eventually bonded with, and a lucky attack by a horde of devils to distract Fierna.

Back on the material plane, Oren and Daybreak now dwell together with Lux in the very cave where the black dragon once held the damsel chained. Strange things are still afoot, and they have vowed to keep an eye on the town and Isabella, who may yet be corrupted by Fierna.

Gallindan Shalbarain
right-aligned image
Gallindan is tall for an elf, standing 6'3", and wiry. Long silver hair falls unbound over his shoulders. Blazing ice blue eyes shine forth from skin the color of new-fallen snow. He is handsome, as most elves are. But he is severe, stern, pensive. He wears mail of nickel splints on bleached white leather. A battered green pack is slung over his shoulder, and an ebony longbow is strapped to the outside. He holds a filigreed ebony glaive with a silvered blade, and the comfortable way he holds the weight reveals his experience with the weapon. Around his waist is a thick black belt whose silver buckle is embossed with an empty throne atop a mountain. But perhaps the most striking thing he wears is a pair of forest-green heavy gauntlets, covered with elvish runes that seem to faintly glow.

"I was sent to your world by the God of Doors. Your world faces a particularly vile incursion. Fiends have infiltrated the churches of the Gods of Good and are undermining their faiths from the inside. This has been happening for several years, but the tide is rising. Luckily, my order is not alone in this fight - as our Gods are not alone in being assaulted. I am a member of a secret organization banding together the Gods of Good to monitor and resist. We are known as the Hooded Lantern. I shall say little more about us until I know you better, as our very survival depends on remaining hidden from the forces we act against. Our agents reported an incursion here near Oakcrest. Both the temple of the Ancient One and the temple in town have been compromised. My superior has sent me to investigate... and to act accordingly. It sounds as though you have been doing our work for us, and for that we are grateful. What can you tell me of the situation?"
