That would fit. I dont' expect her to be like "Thomas is that you?!", but there could have been the possibility of meeting after the first Battle of Ypres. He would have been one of many that were suffering the effects of being gassed. Just seeing hwat possible ties that my char would have with the others in our merry little band

That would work for me. Maybe she helped wash you down with kerosine to remove the residue of gas? That would have been a nurse duty during the war. More involvement would have required a surgeon, most likely (based on what I'm reading.) Or maybe she helped just keep you warm and comfortable while you were fending off the ensuing pneumonia and you were one of the lucky ones to recover?

Very lucky. From what reading I did of that battle, the Canadians got absolutely destroyed. Very few survived, and all had a reminder of their experience with scarred lungs, blindness, burnt flesh, etc.... I'm having Thomas be one of the more fortuante ones, having vision and skin damage.
