Leonora
right-aligned image

'Thank you, Brogg,' Leonora chimed in, flashing the Toddard a warm smile. 'For everything. We'd no doubt still be stumbling around in the swamp where you found us, had it not been for your kindness.' She looked to the east, nodding to herself. 'We will sort this matter. Find sir Roderick, find the prince. And then we shall hurry back and find you, and regale you with stories of what we found. We shall return before you know it,' she promised.

With all her goodbyes put into words, Leonora was eager to leave. She turned to Jane, wagging her head at the raft meant for the beetle. 'Wound you mind accompanying the beast? It might benefit us, having someone with the ability to speak with the creature there, should the need arise,' the paladin pointed out.

Cadmun
left-aligned image
Cadmun nodded before carefully stowing the book away amongst his belongings. When he spoke of protecting the book with his life he was deadly serious. He thanked Halbereth once more for the opportunity to assist a fellow scholar in such a manner before heading off to rejoin his compatriots.

Once he’d rejoined them by what appeared to be a giant beetle (utterly mystifying! How does it’s mass hold together at that size?) he was quick to greet old Brogg with a smile and a firm handshake once he spotted the old told, feeling his own eyes grow a bit misty at the thought of parting ways. He’d reach forward to shake Brogg’s hand, if he’s willing.

“...You have been a kind and generous guide, who has once again humbled us with your generosity. May our paths cross again so that we can one day repay at least a portion of what you’ve given us.”

Liam

Liam grunts and, for the briefest moment, you almost think he is... blushing??

"Well, someone has to control it, right?" he grumbles. He lets the matter drop and instead shakes hands with Brogg, clasping the toddart on the shoulder and thanking him for all they have done for him.

"I'll ride with Jane. Together we should be able to keep it under control."

“Oh, yes I would like that very much. I do not wish to ride alone after the last raft trip, so some company would be appreciated” Jane nodded enthusiastically as their defacto leader asked if she would be willing to ride on the raft with the beetle. Having Sir Liam’s height would also be helpful on her raft since Jane could not see very far with short dwarf legs.

“Brogg it was a pleasure to have met you and be in your company, I wish you the best and hope to see you upon our return,” Jane said to the old Toddart.

She climbed onto the raft meant for the beetle and settled into a place near it’s head and patted it’s hard carapace, “well onto the next new place,” she said to it

The old toddart waved a long farewell as your rafts set on the long journey eastwards.

The waters of the swamp lay ahead of you, and for a few hours they stretched out, broken up by sudden bumps and patches of green where marsh trees rose from the mire. When they did finally break, a stretch of tall marsh reeds marked where the grass became a bit more solid.
There your rafts came to rest, nudging up against the wet shoreline. Here you have time to pack as much of your supplies as you wish onto your beetle, whose deep clicking and rumbling sounds like a sort of pleasure at the added weight.
It can amble through the mire easily enough, legs punching in and out with an able regularity.

For the rest of you, however, such marshy land proved more of a challenge. Still, as noon passed overhead, you realized that you could make the next town before sunset if the maps have anything to say about it.

Important Meeting

Fledidi was getting a little tired by this point. No way was she stepping in that muck! Thus, a lot of wing-waving and hovering had been in order as she glided above the sticky, oozy, boot-filling earth, and also scary, unknown depth "water" prior to that.

She buzzed her way over next to Kraghbar.

"Mind if a lady rests for a moment upon your shoulder? I mean, I'd just sit on the beetle, but since that earlier encounter I'm a touch wary of unknown creatures much larger than myself. Actually, back home, many beetles can fly. A pity this one can't..."

Assuming the great orc would let her use his shoulder as a landing pad, the fairy would then take a seat, and look around at the gathered explorers and fellow shipwrecked world crossers.

"So where now? Someone brought the actual map, right? Can I take a look?"

Ooo, the orc's shoulder felt kind of... cold. Cool like a winter night's sea breeze. Well, it would feel cold to Kraghbar. Fledidi felt just fine!

OOCFledidi isn't great at that Lore stuff, but she is happy to help if someone wants it. She has +3 survival.

Kraghbar al-Gruun

"Eh?" Kraghbar was broken from his mud induced reverie as Fledidi came a buzzing, his reply to the fairy an enthusiastic nod once he'd comprehended the request. "Of course, of course! Let this orc carry you and your tiny burdens. Don't think we need fear our faithful bag beetle though, it knows better than to make a meal out of one of us, even if they are bite sized, like baklava. " The warrior reached out a meaty hand to pat the beetle's carapace, but the uneven rate of movement through the marsh between himself and the bug of burden only allowed for a partial success before he had to correct his footing. When the fairy settled on his shoulder however, he took a moment to focus on the newest sensation that would bring to his skin. "Oh! You are... do you need a tiny blanket, Fledididi? I see you, but feel ice. A different cold from my feet trying to walk through all of this in front of us. A cold and a wet to go together."

"If we had not already felt the embrace of the sea, this whole kingdom would have been the most water in one place any orc of Eransahr had ever witnessed. But even for all that is different, much is the same. One still had to watch their step on the dune sea if they travelled by foot, and what is mud but sand buried and mixed with many, many rains? I can only hope there is no quicksand to stick our toes into. Cadmun, human who reads like the elves, you must have some idea of the signs to keep us from another watery grave! It would be a pity for anyone here to fall to nature's wrath before the true battle begins."

That little thought had Kraghbar redouble his efforts to try and read the murk across which they travelled despite his continued unfamiliarity with the terrain.

OOCRolled a 20 on survival.

Liam
right-aligned image

As the group heads into the woods, Liam prays for a blessing from Helm for his eyes to be vigilant. It's hard work for Liam to walk through the mud, especially in his heavy armor. Kraghbar leading the way seems to help, as their half orc companion was surprisingly savvy about his woodland knowledge. Liam capitalizes on this by blessing him with a helping hand from the Watcher.

Cadmun

Cadmun took a moment from fawning over their new beetle companion to nod at Kraghbar. “I don’t have the hands-on expertise of the our compatriots, but I’ll do my best.”

And once he was off the raft he’d do precisely that, heedless of how he was slowly sinking into the mud as he tried to get the lay of the land.

On the Road

The walk went well, with Kragbhar's years of campaigning serving as a boon to the party. The orc deftly navigatesd through the mire and the party followed his path easily enough. Despite the wet in your boots, you all made good time.
Soon, as far as Fledidi could reckon, Gol came into view as the sun began to set behind you.

Gol lay between two large stones, seemingly built into the remnants of some old, bent tree.
As you approached, a group of toddarts armed with nothing more than fishing spears and work axes all piled in to block your advance.
"Halt!" Cried one of the larger toddarts, "Who are ya, and where are ya comin' from?"

The beetle clicked and hummed, Jane picking up its meaning as "Angry masters, scared masters. " Its hairs bristled as it settled into a defensive stance, obviously uncomfortable with the aggression of the toddarts.

"Coming from... er, somewhere way over there, through lots and lots of mud. So much mud." Kraghbar did not quite register the toddarts as being a threat, shoddily equipped as they were, and naturally went with the helpful answer of pointing vaguely in the direction of the settlement they had just left. "Met some friendly beavers, and a nice lady who gave us our trustee steed. Speaking of which, you are scaring our bag beetle! That's not very nice at all!"

The orc waggled a fat finger at the group of toddarts in admonishment, his cracked lips twisted into a disappointing frown. Believing the chastisement properly delivered, he continued with the conversation best he could to get them moving past this roadblock.

"Anyway, we're doing some hunting. Seen any angry lizards we can crush under our heel? Oh, right, and anyone remember seeing your prince wander through here with another strange looking guy? Like my new humie pals here, in whatever flavor is closest to our missing captain!" Broad, meaty arms spread wide to invite the toddarts to make a comparison between the human (or human enough) figures of the party in the hopes that perhaps recognition would take hold among the terrified collective.

Fledidi soon left her literally "cool" perch upon Kraghbar's shoulder, especially when a township kind of thing came into view. She buzzed about and let everyone know of course.

"I think it is Gol! We're close! We made it!"

The optimism kind of retreated a bit though, when the welcome was less than welcoming. Should she talk to these anxious toddarts too? Just because she had the prettiest face in the group, didn't mean she actually needed to be the "face", right? Maybe her colleagues would fill in the details, but she did fly up a bit and then nod to the strangers.

"Hello! My friend here is true! We're here to help King Rapplus the third, just in case name-dropping counts for something around here."

Liam lets Fleididi and Kraghbar do the talking. Instead, he watches the armed toddarts to see if he can gauge their intentions. Are they looking for trouble? Or are they scared? Liam finds it hard to read the unusual creatures.

OOC: laptop not wanting to work, Sono stat blocks or picture for Jane sorry guys.

IC:
Following along behind or beside the beetle Jane trusted through the mud trying to not complain about the damp or the wet seeping into her boots. Dwarves were tough but they didn't like being wet. Dark, cold, that didn't bother them, but wet did. Moisture was bad news for most things Dwarves enjoyed like mining, building stonework, brewing beer. She was now on her third or four day now of water travel and it was starting to wear on her.

Lost in thought about the swamp and how to dry out her feet Jane plowed into the back end of the beetle as there all came to a sudden halt. She tried to peeke around everyone to see what was going on but couldn't see what was holding them up. But Kraghbar started talking in a tone that sounded like a disappointed father.

"easy beetle, we'll get this sorted out. No one's angry just making sure everyone is safe. There's bad stuff living out here that we have to avoid."Jane told the beetle not sure how much it would understand. She rested a hand on it to let it know she was still close.
