Yikes, I'm sorry you went through that. I feel like 5e is good about mitigating a fair bit of what you described Trinity, and I totally understand your reasoning on both points. I think the random aspect adds some excitement to the game at the start and hopefully it won't affect it too badly. I also feel like if someone is able to roleplay a roll well IC, that I should reward that in some way, especially if it makes the story more interesting. Sometimes just because someone has a higher skill doesn't mean they should be the one using the skill as well. So we'll see how it plays out. I already have some cool thoughts for this opening adventure which I think will make it fresh and new for many here.

I think that is the point of the inspiration mechanic.

Oh thanks hehe, I've dealt with players doing infinitely more ******y things then that though. I'm definitely liking 5e better then 3-4th ed it seems like it's a lot more balanced.

Just from the cursory glances I've taken through the book, I would agree. After playing 3.5 for so long, my jaw dropped when I saw that fighters had actual abilities.

My reaction as well.

What I expect from the gameI'd have to agree with what everyone else said before me, roleplay comes first, and rollplay is here to further roleplaying. Fights without reason aren't something I'm a fan of, but when it comes to fights, I'll quote what GinJapan said:
Quote:
I like to be in games that feel like an action movie during combat. Flying a bit loose with the rules without allowing total anarchy.
Also, what Trinity said about everyone having their role. I don't like characters who are good at everything. Although, I play a rogue, which always gave me more skills than everyone else in the previous editions, and using those skills made me feel like I'm the only one doing stuff outside of combat. I hope it won't feel that way in 5e.

@Mastermind: Are you talking about my avatar and signature?

@Trinity: Yeah, that sort of thing is kind of dumb... the whole "I have a better score than you" thing... But I think more often than not that's an issue with the person running the game, and the player than it is with the method of stat selection. Ideally, no one knows what your numbers are but you. I straight up refuse to talk about them at a table unless the DM asks...

I'm that guy... ugh. xD "Your character doesn't know how good I am at this~ Neither do you~!"

Still, sorry you had to deal with that crap. Players like that ruin games.

The questions that you posed in the application section involving items and things like that... That sort of stuff doesn't really have much value to me. I just want to role-play, honestly... and enjoy a good story.

Even the combat/conversation balance doesn't matter. Just because you're fighting doesn't mean you can't role-play. It just means you're role-playing a fight.

I agree, and I hope you weren't put off by the stat talks trin. I have most of my fun role playing my characters. I really try to create a unique personality and get into their heads. Now if I can do that and toast some goblins it just adds even more fun. Besides the dice dictate really how combat goes anyway. if I have +19 to hit but roll 4 1's in a row it doesn't even matter =)

Hey folks, I've been looking through the apps, and let me just say I think all the characters look fantastic, and I'm really looking forward to rping with you all! And Montage seems to have a good campaign framework set up as well that should make for some good gaming.

Right? I'm excited.

Are we missing somebody? The original PM said there would be 8 of us.

When are we going to be actually starting? Also, montage, if it's going to be a while, can we get a thread to play in while we wait?

TheSilverBeetle will be joining us shortly I believe. If everyone can have their character sheets finalized and their character information filled in by next Monday (Nov 24th) that's when I intend to fully start. I'll ne opening up a game thread on Mon or Tues for you guys to start role playing and your characters to become acquainted. So expect a game thread tomorrow or day after.
