I think we should use the tic tac toe method...since I've yet to see it done.

For STR, Dex and Con you take one of the rolls below it
For INT, WIS and CHA you take one of the rolls to the right of it.
Caveat: You can't use the same roll more than once.

I roll for strength

Dice Roll:

4d6kh3

5, 4, 5, 2 (keeping 4,5,5)

Total = 14

Now I either keep the roll or let the GM roll and have to take whatever he rolls.

Generally I like the rstat2 method. If your bonuses add up to zero or less you can re-roll.

And as to gear you should gear up like any other level one character. You will have had it taken when you were captured but, it still exists somewhere...

My character sheet is mostly done, but I have two questions:

Have we been down here long enough for it to make sense that my second language is "undercommon"? If not, what do you think a decent second language would be for someone who lived all his life in Athkatla and Baldur's Gate?

Also, and you might not be able to answer this, since I am human, my eyesight down here is going to suck. If I choose to go ranged, will I constantly have disadvantage on my rolls from being in the Underdark?

First: you won’t have been there for more than 10 days of you have been captured from the surface. So unless you have a backstory way of learning undercommon I doubt you will have picked it up. I’m not adverse to characters learning the language over time however.

Elvish would be useful, and not uncommon. Same for dwarvish.

Second, yeah. You will have a lot of disadvantage to ranged underground. That being said, while denizens of the Underdark have darkvision, they would likely carry torches ( the sentient ones, anyway) because it only gives you vision as of in a dim light meaning that for their perception checks they would be at a disadvantage.

If we're ambushing people in camp, cast it first on to the first arrow I shoot or the axe of the barbarian and we'll get the jump on them.
