The two juvenile monsters were quick to rush in. Daybrak tried to bite the created as it advanced, but was not yet familiar with how the wold moved, and only make an awkward snap. In return, the juvenile hacked at the wolf, and left a deep scar in its side. The other swung at Gillindan, who would have nearly lost his head from the attack had he not been actively dodging. The adult hooked monster kept its range, but could still reach far enough to take another swipe at the Paladin. Again, Gillindan's instincts to play defense first paid off, and kept him from being struck again.

The friends launch into battle, and Oren quickly tries to move in concert with their shifting maneuvers to keep the upper hand. "Try to keep one of those juveniles between you and the big one!" he calls out. That said, he moves over the cave's stony floor so that he had line of sight on the larger monster. "Don't let them get between you and the exit, we may need to get out of here quick!"
Seeing Daybreak in wolf form snap and miss the smaller creature, the warlock decides to concentrate on getting rid of it once and for all. Summoning another blast of power, he focuses his will and sends it crackling forward. |

Gallindan is running out of tricks, but sees the wisdom in taking down one target first. In the blink of an eye, he vanishes from one side of the melee and Fey step to D9. JH2 has to Wisdom save to avoid Frightened.appears on the other. Taking the juvenile by surprise, he lashes out with his dagger. Last edited by zebedee; May 28th, 2020 at 04:42 PM. Reason: So. Many. The blast from Oren's spell rocked the smaller juvenile, which was followed up by Gillindan's dagger. It was a near-fatal combo, but didn't quite kill the beast. The poping in and out of space frightened the other juvenile creature. The smaller juvenile that was clearly cared of Gillindan worked a circle around his nemesis, towards Oren. Keeping an eye on the Paladin, it's swing towards Oren was clumsy, and missed. Daybreak snapped again at the other juvenile horror, again unable hit it. At least the smaller creature, when retaliating failed to strike Daybreak back. The adult Horror was more adept at using its claws to fight foes. One hook again flew just over Gillindan's head, while the other caught Daybreak along the side of her Wolf form. She winced, like a dog that had just been kicked, but quickly turned that into a snarl of anger.

Gallindan was surprised the injured juvenile was still upright... it looked pretty badly off. But now its sibling had closed on Oren, and things looked dire. Turning slightly to his left, keeping the adult in view of the corner of his eye, he reached out with his left hand in the direction of the uninjured juvenile. Spectral vines lashed out from the ground, seeking to ensnare the creature. Without waiting to see if the attack had worked, he stepped to his right, trying to outflank the adult.

Oren isn't sure what Gallindan had in mind, but he could tell the paladin was attempting to influence the smaller of the horrors next to him. When the magic began erupting from the floor, the warlock seized his moment to dart past the creature, knowing that their real priority was taking out the larger parent. He moves around Daybreak, aiming to get a solid shot at the horror at the other end of the cave. He points and fires another wave of energy with a yell.

Combatants were moving and shifting, trying to get a better position of attack. Gillindan's Wrath held on of the juveniles still, so that both Daybreak and Oren could move away from it with little fear of opening themselves up for attack. Gillindan then flanked around the side of the larger Horror. The juvenile nearest him swung to attack, but wasn't fast enough to catch the Paladin. Daybreak gave a confused snarl at Gillindan though, as his movement messed up her use of teamwork to take the smaller creature down.
Jaws snapped, hooks swung, but everyone came out unscathed from the exchange, with the exception of Gillindan, who took a massive swing from the adult horror, and the held juvenile that Oren blasted.

Gallindan winced in pain as the monster struck him, but his years of training - a lifetime for many humanoids - enabled him to maintain his concentration on his enchantment. He was much happier with the battlefield when he reassessed it. He had the creature's attention, so he hoped that Oren and Daybreak could take advantage of it. He sliced at the creature with his Which is, in fact, a sickle, and not the dagger that has been mentioned by me in this very scene several times.woefully inadequate weapon.

Torn between blasting the smaller horror attacking Daybreak, or the mammoth tearing into Gallindan, Oren utters a curse. Let's hope she can take the youngling down before it does more damage, the parent is the real issue. With some awareness on the juvinelle held just to his right, he again blasts the huge horror to the south with a wave of psychic energy.

Both Oren and Gallindan both landed attacks on the parent monster, though neither hit very hard. Daybreak finally managed to get her jaws around the juvenile between the pair, and ripped it to shreds. There was a sick crunching sound as her jaws clamped down through its hard shell and skin, akin to a turtle popping.
The adult hooked horror was enraged to see the death of yet another of its kin, and focused its rage on the Wolf. Daybreak jumped over one hook, though another caught her in the side, and left a large wound behind. The form Daybreak was holding wouldn't last for another hit, though she herself was not in grave danger just yet.

Seeing Daybreak take another terrible hit, Oren abandons all thought about his own safety. He lets loose another bolt of mental energy at the large horror and then bolts forward. "Get back Daybreak, get away down the tunnel if you need to, but save yourself!" he shouts at her.
In an instant, he's put himself between the horror and the wolf, holding his dagger before him and baring his teeth at the monster. "Come on then! We'll put an end to you!" he snarls. Seeing it rise up menacingly before him, hooks glistening with blood, the warlock knows it's only a matter of moments before Daybreak would have been skewered. He can only hope he avoids that fate. |

Gallindan breathed a little easier as the young creature dropped to the ground. Maybe the mother's emotions would cause it to make some mistakes. He winced once more as he saw Daybreak's wolf fur stained with blood. He wondered how much more she could take. He took a deep breath, and slashed at the thing's knee with his sickle.
