Daybreak acted faster than anyone else, and took cover behind Oren. She there prepared for the monsters to come towards them. As soon as they did, she cast a spell, throwing a knife made of Ice at the monster to the right. It hit, exploding into fragments that ripped into the hard shells of both creatures. The act enraged the creatures even more, and in unison they tried to converge on the group. They couldn't both fit down the tunnel, so took a swipe at their nearest prey, Gallindan. One massive hook he manages to dodge, but the other catches him across the midsection, and tears out a large chunk of flesh.

Gallindan cursed at himself, frustrated that he had fallen into the trap despite knowing full well where it was designed to spring. He took a moment to rethink the battlefield. Taking advantage of the distraction caused by Daybreak's attack, he Disengagedodged backwards to stand F7next to Oren. Clutching his belt buckle with his left hand, he Bless: Whenever a target makes an attack roll or a saving throw before the spell ends, the target can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to the attack roll or saving throw.called out, "I call upon the blessings of the Eldest. Even here, the light will shine!"

Witnessing the two horrors, Oren resists an urge to fall back. Instead, he holds the line for Gallindan to stand next to him, shielding Daybreak behind him. "I didn't know we had such cockroaches in our basement," he says to her, even as the hooked beasts clatter towards them.
Dagger outstretched to keep the approaching creatures at bay, the warlock channels his psychic ability through the blade, sending an invisible wave of energy at the closest horror. He then calls upon his patron for protection. Last edited by mountainbound; Mar 26th, 2020 at 09:31 AM. |

A blast of energy shot from Oren's hands, as Gallindan tactfully retreated before casing a spell of Bless on himself and his allies. The two horrific monsters struggled against each other until one of them forced its way in front of the other and down the hallway. A frantic hook swung at Oren's head, but he was able to duck underneath it. "Watch their sway. Time your attack for when it is off balance!" Daybreak called out from behind, too far to hit anything with her dagger.

Sizing up the hooked beast, Oren heeds Daybreak's words. He quickly gets in rhythm with its awful attacks and ducks a swing. It's been some time since he's had to use a normal blade however, and looking at the magical dagger in his hand, he judges that Gallindan would be better served by the advice. His friend takes an awful hit, enough to fell a lesser man, and Oren sees his opportunity. Summoning another blast of psychic energy, he sends it spinning it like an invisible axe it toward the horror clawing towards them.

Gallindan winced as Oren ducked under the creature's hook. But Daybreak was right... the beast swayed off-balance after it attacked. He waited for just a moment, and lunged forward with his sickle.

Stuck in the hallway, both Oren and Gallindan landed attack into the large foes, Orend sending his magical energies to attack the rear enemy while Gallindan slashed at the forefront. "Focus on one of them, don't spread your attack out!" Daybreak offered, as some strategical advice. Just as she did, a large clear caught Oren in a sideways hook, leaving a deep scratch mark in his chest.

Gallindan wasn't entirely sure what Daybreak was getting at, since his brave retreat had made it so only one of the beasts could be targeted. But he decided to take her advice more literally, lashing out at the wound he'd already opened in its leg.

The wind is knocked out of Oren as the creature smashes its heavy claw into his chest. They were as fast as they were heavy, he thinks. There is little time to register the pain however, as the strike triggers hidden magics protecting the warlock. Fires aroused by the aggression of the horror rise up around Oren and he focuses them back at the creature, searing it with a blast of hellish fury.
Inspired by the jet of flame, Oren utters a syllable that causes a greenish flicker to appear around his black dagger. Rushing forward he tries to work in concert with Gallindan, but can't find an opening with his blade given the heavy shell that plates the horror. Between the hellish rebuke, and a few continued strikes from the duo of Oren and Gallindan, the massive creature blocking the two's path succumbed to its injuries and fell dead to the ground. The beast behind it clacked angrily a few times, and pounded the walls with its claws, conflicted about what to do next. For a moment, it looked like it was going to pull the corpse of the first beast away, and continue the fight. But, instead, it turned and ran away, down the hallway to the trio's right. There was no question where it was, or headed, as the clacking and angry screeches continued as it made its exit from the narrow passageway.
"That isn't what I expected," Daybreak said candidly, thinking about it for a moment. "It must be protecting something."

Gallindan stood upright and fought to catch his breath. But he agreed with Daybreak. "Well done, everyone. And I agree with you, Daybreak. They set and ambush, but gave up on it. I suspect its gone to defend a nest. I don't know that we need to go and track it down now... but this isn't my house."
He turned to look at Oren. "I'm inclined to go forward and hope to find Lux. But if the goal is to clear out these caves of any trouble, we could pursue that... thing, whatever it was." |

Gallindan spoke prudently as usual. "I'd prefer to go on too." Oren gingerly pulls his bloody shirt away from his skin, briefly inspecting the gash across his chest. It was nothing compared to his friend's injury.
Considering Daybreak's words, he says, "But if you think the creature is protecting something, all the more reason to follow it. Perhaps after we tend wounds? We have no idea where Lux is anyway. Daybreak, do you have the power to heal Gallindan?" |

Gallindan was surprised to hear Oren's concern, but as the adrenaline faded and he looked down, the pain came roaring in. He gasped. But he held up a hand to stop Daybreak. "Save your energy. I can take care of this myself. But I worry that our magic supply is running low to take on the other beast."
Placing one hand on his belt buckle, Lay on Hands for 10.and the other wincingly on his wound, he closed his eyes. A soft glow pierced the darkness, and his wound began to knit itself. Looking around, Divine sense 60 feet. Seems unlikely.he reached out with his divine sense to see if Lux was nearby. |
