AiME is sloppy about wording mechanics for sure. I assumed it means you lose Inspiration as soon as you fail a roll, but the general Inspiration rule does not get overriden, so Inspiration is a one-shot thing, you lose it when you use it. Official D&D SRD says 'If you have inspiration, you can expend it when you make an attack roll, saving throw, or ability check. Spending your inspiration gives you advantage on that roll.'

However, since we discussed it after you made the roll, and in the literal meaning of AiME's text you're right, everyone gets to use Inspiration twice. Unlimited use of Inspirations until a condition turns it off is too powerful, though, so that's not gonna happen.

Well, even with inspiration Rue fails the wis check. Her riddle is a mere 11 and the answer is that the man is bald.

If I knew that answer I would have many games still running that ran out of players over the years. It really seems to end up being a function of time and personal happenstance.

Looks like this isn’t coming back up. So…

Rue and Arn finish this task and return to Minas Tirith where they often head out and fight against the growing shadow. Many years later, after Arn has passed, when the city is attacked by the forces of Sauron, Rue defends the walls perishing only after she’s taken as many orcs with her as she can.
