Would someone please clarify for me what classes are available?

If I am understanding correctly, by following the DnD Basic Rules link, it says that only Cleric, Fighter, Rogue and Wizard are allowed for classes and only the Life Domain, Champion, Thief, and Evocation School archetypes are allowed?

This seems really restrictive for classes, or am I misreading things?

My intuition is that very restrictiveness is why they were motivated to be as clear as possible about supporting and encouraging the leveraging of custom backgrounds.

Yes, your intuition is correct. The basic rules are fairly limited in options. You will have to be creative with distinguishing your character by backgrounds and such more than by mechanical variance in class.

We are actually really well-staffed at judge, and I have a few other volunteers on call, if we need them. Thanks for the offer though!

The nice thing about this year, if you need to sit or a week, you can. Everyone who applies will have the option to participate in as many of the first four weeks as time allows, no worries about eliminations for the encounter.

I just realized I had left some erroneous information about eliminations (copied from last year) in the Rules thread. There will be no eliminations this year during the four Encounters rounds. Only for the Finale.

Ohhhh yes! very exciting! gonna check out the new rules and times and stuff when i have a spare moment, and have a think

First round might end up being a struggle for me because I have a friend visiting more or less those exact dates, but considering I was SO sensible these last 2 years and didn't enter for time-reasons... to hell with it, let's give it a go anyway

It's weird looking rules and options for characters instead of just spirballing something as we have for the last few years.

I'm assuming since the basic rules contain no feats that no feats are allowed, correct?

Right. You will be limited to taking the ASI at level 4.
