"This way then, Kneecap" Lanna said to the dwarf as she pointed and started down the street towards the pub she had in mind. The dwarf certainly seemed decent for his kind, Lanna thought. "So what about the festival got you to come to our fair town?"" Lanna asked as they made their way down the crowded street. |

Taika (Nevin)
Taika wanders through the games. Emmett had to go run one of the games, to give his uncle time to have lunch. Nevin rode on her head now that he had finished his pie. To keep watch for interesting things. Taika didn't mind, her hood kept him from grabbing and pulling her hair if he fell off. As she walked she spotted a man being dusted. Whoever he was, he didn't seem to be enjoying it. She decided to take the unknown girls lead. Fun with cantrips sounded, just that... Fun. She removes a piece of string from her pocket and begins to Mage Handlevitate it over toward the cat that the girl was presenting to her companion. Waggling it in front of the cat. |

Estella Porazio Onyx the Black Cat
While her master hasn't noticed the cantrip of another wizard, Onyx herself certainly did. At first the black cat only gave the waggling, floating string a curious stare, but soon she started to throw a few cautious swipes with her claw. Once the cat has determined that the string was perfectly harmless, she let out of quiet meow and began to pounce after the string, as her wizard continued to speak with the half-elf man. Elenion Valdemar
Surprised by something in Estella's last sentence, Elenion paused half a second too long after the wizard's curtsey, his friendly expression never wavering but his confusion and indecision sneaking through nonetheless. Realizing his mistake, the half-elf almost imperceptibly cleared his throat, then offered a bow and an introduction of his own. "Of course, excuse me. Elenion Valdemar, entrepreneur, at yours as well." Presuming Estella to be familiar with the awkward family situation between the two of them, he gave her a knowing, indulgent smile, trusting her to receive it as the olive branch it was intended as and not as an odd, slightly inappropriate response to her introduction. Eager to move the conversation on past the potential minefield of surnames, Elenion began to expound on the merits of his hometown, well aware that such talk might offend the locals but confident in his ability to describe Magnimar's greatness in terms that would reflect well upon its "holding' as well. "As for the City of Monuments, well, there's nowhere else like it, now is there? Sandpoint's been lovely so far, of course, but if you're looking for the bustle of the city, well..." Cut off by the ringing of bells and then by the herald's call, the half-elf trailed off, instead taking a moment to listen to the announcements and crane his head over the crowd in an attempt to discern what was going on. "Were you going to be attending that?" he asked, returning to his conversation with Estella. "I was planning on watching it myself, for the theatrics honestly as much as any Desnan religious significance."

Estella Porazio
The wizard was a little confused at Elenion's pause, thought she didn't think much of it and was still smiling without even changing her expression. But when Elenion mentioned his last name, the wizard was genuinely shocked. "Pardon me, Valdemar!?" She said, surprised, however with a hint of pleasant surprise. "As in, one of the four noble merchant family!? Oh my! I didn't know I was talking to someone of a great importance like you!" The dress maker added, excited by the opportunity to talk about the upperclass affairs. "And yes, I have been anticipating the Swallowtail Release ever since this morning! Not so much for the religious importance, but for the beautiful display. So, shall we go?" -------------------------------------------------------------- Onyx the Black Cat Unknownst to her master, Onyx has already left the place without warning. Despite the cat's appearance, she did notice the source of the cantrip, when the string came floating to her; she's a wizard's familiar after all! So when the string fell dead on the ground, Onyx picked up the string in her maw and chased after Taika, the wizard who gave the string life. Last edited by Fon; Apr 6th, 2013 at 10:37 AM. |

Taika (Nevin)
As Taika stands in the crowd waiting for the Swallowtail release she notices the black cat from earlier. "Hello. You're a familiar aren't you?" Taika looks at the string in it's mouth "Oh, sorry. I couldn't resist. Here, meet Nevin. He's my familiar." Taika carefully extracts Nevin from the top of her hood, placing the monkey on the ground then brushing the hood back. Nevin, who had been sorely disappointed to say goodbye to a good piece of string was glad to see the other familiar returning it. The monkey holds out a hand to the cat, "Hello, I am Nevin. It is a pleasure to meet you. Particularly as you have facilitated the return of an exceptionally valuable posession of my master's. If you could return it now, that would be most excellent.ooh ah ah ah" Taika simply chuckles at Nevin's antics Last edited by TheMystic; Apr 6th, 2013 at 10:59 AM. |

Elenion Valdemar
Anticipating a bit of awkward conversation when Estella expressed surprise at his last name, Elenion was himself surprised by the wizard's curiosity and apparent ignorance of their intersecting family histories. We she from a different family of Porazios, then? Was she genuinely oblivious to what had gone on? Or was she just acting the fool, circumventing a potentially uncomfortable situation by ignoring the elephant in the room and trusting him to do the same? Whatever the case was, the appropriate response on his part was the same: just smile and keep the conversation going, crossing to the other side of the street and looking the other way whenever anything potentially harmful came up for now. "It'd be my pleasure," he told her in his most gentlemanly tone, guiding Estella through the crowds in an attempt to behave courteously if not patronizingly. "As for the illustrious surname, well, I don't mean to give you any misconceptions," Elenion continued, giving a self-effacing laugh that was entirely genuine if perhaps also quite planned out. "I think that your respect for House Valdemar is well placed, but there are the great patriarchs and matriarchs of the houses, and then there are some of us more like the second cousins of the families, so to speak. Still, though, I've been doing fairly well for myself, finding opportunities off of the more heavily traveled commercial paths." Shrugging, he qualified, "But that's business, of course, and I don't mean to bore you with that sort of talk unless you're interested. How about yourself? Sandpoint seems an awfully small town for such a talented seamstress." Pausing momentarily, Elenion added with a bemused expression, "And didn't you have a cat just a moment ago?"

Onyx the Black Cat
Onyx tilted her head in confusion when the monkey offered her a hand. Not knowing what the other familiar was saying, she placed her paw on the monkey's hand, to mimic a handshake. "Thank you, nice to meet you tooMew" she replied quietly, before going to the other wizard and dropping the string in front of her. Onyx gave Taika a brief look and Here's your string back. I have to go now, bye!meowed, then the black cat ran back the way she came from...... Only to stop in her tracks as she realized that she didn't remember the way, and the whole place was getting too crowded for her to navigate her way back. She looked left and right frantically for her master, but to no avail. -------------------------------------------------------------- Estella Porazio "Oh, come on now, a second cousin to a family is still a part of the family, is it not?" The dress maker giggled at the half-elf's modesty-- she thinks it was modesty at least. "I wouldn't mind talking about business, however I can't say the same for your family. I do know that my father would be mad if I were to talk about the family business carelessly." She sighed and rolled her eyes, recalling one of her experiences with her over-protective father. "And I'm flattered by your words. Unfortunately I just simply have no time to pursue this path seriously, all I do right now are small time commissions, but perhaps once my younger brother is old enough to take care of the family business..." She trailed off slightly, though Elenion's last question got her attention back. "Why, yes. Onyx is right....... here?" The wizard looked behind her, and to her dismay, Onyx was no longer following her... again. She sighed before turning back to the half-elf. "Let's head to the square; I'll look for her after the Swallowtail Release. If we're lucky, the butterflies might attract Onyx to the square, and even not, she's quite capable of finding her way home. It should be fine, ha ha." She smiled, albeit a bit forced. Estella only hoped that Onyx didn't return to the pig pan and gave herself a mud bath... She WAS staring at the pig pan... Last edited by Fon; Apr 7th, 2013 at 09:22 PM. |

A couple of pints later, the announcement of the Swallowtail Release echoed through the tavern. Urko polished off the ale then plonked the mug on the bar.
"Ahhh! Let's go, lass, I've heard the release is quite a sight. We don' wanna be late!" Sliding the stool back from the bar, he belched mildly, then readjusted the shield on his back. "Come on! There's free drink after, from what I hear!" |

Lanna
"Yah, we should go watch this bird thing. Father always said it was quite the sight. Its the only thing about this festival I've been waiting for beyond trying to find a job and get out of here" Lana said to her dwarf companion as they got up from their brews and made their way back into the heart of the festival. As they walked down the street, Lanna noticed Taika looking around and holding a small black cat. She hat noticed the cat earlier being carried by a different lady. Odd, she thought. The woman earlier was talking to the cat, and now this lady was talking to the cat. Then a thought occurred to her....mages. She was familiar enough with magic to know she didn't like it. The shaman from her tribe was always nothing but trouble during her childhood, and he always walked around with this frog that he talked to. Guarded that thing with his life. Lanna had been told there was some special connection between the frog and the shaman, but she hadn't believed it. But what she was seeing now with this black cat was causing her to believe maybe father had been right. Kneecap's talk about free drinks diverted Lanna's attention from the cat. "Yah, that is what I heard, but'cha won't be as happy with it as Jas's brews we just finihsed" |

Onyx the Black Cat
The black cat nodded at the other wizard lady, to affirm that her guess was indeed correct. This other lady seemed to be a nice enough person. Onyx thought, as she started to calm down... The cat supposed that she'll just have to walk home if she couldn't find her owner. |

Elenion Valdemar
"Well, there's no need to worry about that I expect," Elenion comforted the wizard, surprised that she seemed so genuinely concerned with the whereabouts of her familiar while in her own hometown. "I've never known a cat to go and get itself into trouble, and I expect that would be doubly true for one that's as smart as I understand familiars are. Probably be back for milk or something for breakfast tomorrow morning at worst, all tired and smelling a bit funny like some sort of little ten pound adolescent carouser trying to wheedle some of the comforts of home out of its parents." Well aware that he knew less about familiars in general and Onyx in particular than Estella did, he tried to move the conversation onward to more comfortable fare. "The only familiar that I've ever heard of getting in over its head was a crow that a friend of mine had, this bird who knew how to talk but wasn't quite smart enough to know when not to, if you understand my meaning." Chuckling to himself and shaking his head, Elenion continued trying to draw Estella's thoughts away from her missing companion. "Gods alone know what the parents of this fool I knew had to pay some sorcerer to take him on as an apprentice, but it wasn't two days after he got that bird of his before he got the the little thing to start drinking out his tankard alongside him. This bird, "Cosmas", used to wander around the city at nights, trying to get a free bird sized drink out of anyone with an open bottle and trying its damnedest to insult anyone who didn't. One of the city guards who took to carrying a net and a burlap sack around on his night shift used to say that the money he got from people bailing that bird out of the drunk tank was going to get one of his own kids an apprenticeship to a wizard or something one day. Still up to it, from what I last heard, the odd little thing." Accompanying Estella to the swallowtail release, Elenion is more than happy to have lunch with the woman as well, viewing her as an interesting and useful potential friend, a possible partner in more intimate relations and, at the very least, a source of good looking but affordable clothing. However much he's determined to charm her and put his best foot forward, Elenion is also fairly honest regarding his background, as honest as one can be while trying to "sell" oneself. Any conversation wandering dangerously near talk of his parents, the "charge" of fatherhood against him, or his recent journey to Sandpoint, however, becomes politely vague, with the half-elf giving up as little information as he thinks he can manage without seeming offensive or strange.
