Been thinking about this a lot and I have a question/request. Since Warren has basically been crippled as far as combat spells go due to it taking ten minutes to cast anything, if I understood your house rule right, I’m going to make him a utility mage, focusing on spells that are used outside of combat like feather fall, comprehend languages, things like that.
I'm guessing this implies that he is reading the entire spell, does that mean he doesn’t have to prepare them everyday, and if so, can I be a spontaneous caster, able to cast any spell I know?

I'd be careful of a feather fall that takes 10 min to cast... just saying.
I haven't reread them, but if I remember correctly that was if you were casting directly out of your spellbook, instead of preparing them in advance. That alternative is still there I believe. Last edited by TheMystic; Aug 14th, 2013 at 06:11 AM.

I thought he meant any spell I cast was just going to take forever, but I hope you're right. As for feather fall, I wouldn't be able to cast it in an emergency, but if we were someplace high and needed to get down without rope, I could cast it and jump

It's only directly out of your spellbook. In the rules as written, you cannot cast any unprepared spell. Here, you may, it simply takes longer than normal.

No.
You prepare all your spells normally. However, you now have an additional option of using your spellbook like a scroll, except the spells don't vanish after they are read- they just take much longer to cast that way.

Apologies for my own disappearance over the past few days. Not internet troubles, but on-going fun with my computer.
Catching up now.... And I do like the image of a wizard casting spells direct from a grimoire: a departure from the Vancian magic of AD&D, but it's got style.

I hope you all are enjoying the game so far.
It is being updated more slowly than I had hoped to be able to- life is making things very busy for me, which is always fun. But I am going to continue to post consistently, and some of the threads being merged is not -too- far off, so that should work out nicely and make it easier to update. How is everyone doing?
