"So we do," notes Benel, in a final parting shot to Venka. "Let's hope that we won't need them and this solves itself, but in case we do need them.... Well, we're in good hands." He seems sincere enough, but heading onward, are they really enough to face whatever this is?
Elsewhere, Shayliss Vinder's smile is intoxicating, but for his part, Doyle is able to overcome it. Professional to the last, while he can't get a read on her, he can read those eyes, those vexing things that hide behind ginger locks, hanging delicately from a sweating face. Heaving, her smile does not waiver as he puts her off... for now. "Right now? Well, last night we stayed at the Dragon, but tonight, who knows? Papa will likely work something out with someone. I'm just a poor little homeless girl now, don't you know?" She winks. "Don't worry, Savior. I'll find you." She heads off, before he has time to do so. Better to have the final say, and give him something to look at to keep him speechless. And it is something. Regardless of who or what they each of them speak to, the labors of love that bring them all back to the Rusty Dragon eventually have them all meet back up and tell similar stories: that the Goblins likely have some other way in and out of town, and that Tsuto, the Half-Elf, is Ameiko's half-sister, and the black sheep of the Kaijitsu family. Seeking revenge, he led the attack yesterday. But that does not answer the question of where Ameiko has disappeared off to, or where Tsuto is hiding out, north of town. They may be one in the same, but for now, they have to inform the only kin Tsuto has left, to try and find answers. ![]() Lonjiku is the last person any of them want to speak to, but it is the only person that can help them. So, they head out of town. In her time here, Venka has learned the geography of town. The four noble families each live on the hill immediately to the southwest of town, a cliff overlooking the whole of town, directing its water, both river and bay, and imposing down on the town. There are four mansions, though only two are truly visible, with a third somewhat visible. Their destination is perhaps the most obvious of the ones on the hill above, because it is the one least like the rest of the Chelaxian-style frontier houses of Sandpoint. The Kaijitsu family hails from Tian Xia, from specifically Minkai, an insular nation that few know anything about. Of the Sandpoint Saviors, even Venka fails to know a whole lot, except that she likes the food and the company. The Kaijitsu were nobles there, too, but came here two generations ago, led by Ameiko's industrious grandfather, Rokuro, to Magnimar, where his unique style of glassworking made him very rich, rich enough to become some of the "new money." A misnomer: they had plenty of money and prestige from Minkai, including a number of servants, retainers, and even priests and monks of that distant land. They were as noble as any from Cheliax, and thus, the Kaijitsu were added to the ranks of the frontier city's noble families. When approached to fund Sandpoint, Rokuro did even better and moved his family there. His son and wife joined him, and after founding the city alongside the Deverin, Scarnetti, and Valdemar families, became one of the mainstays. From there, the story gets murky, as far as Venka can tell. The trek up the hill takes them out of town, along the Lost Coast, and then up a steep hill, before they see all four houses. Deverin and Valdemar Manors are both majestic, but expectedly so. Chelaxian and Taldor in element, they are prim, proper, and beautiful things, though different in approach, and the Deverins more humble. The Scarnetti Manor, a gaudy thing of marble and ancient architecture, sits high above the others, in both design and placement. It is the Kaijitsu Manor, in its foreign style, that stands out most. Smaller, its walls, its roofs, its everything are utterly Tian in style and make. The garden is full of sand, and the walkway that leads them to the front doors through the opened gate. Before them are two guards: one Varisian but properly shaven, the other an ancient figure, dressed in traditional Minkai robes, with a traditional, if worn, curved sword at his side. Both step forward to meet them, but the Varisian, younger and dressed in simple clothes that make Igna feel he must be impoverished or he's spineless, steps back to let the elder take care of it. "Tomatte! State your business with Master Lonjiku! He suffers no vagrants or those seeking charity!" Indeed.
