Name: Jerome Luurgetru

Hook: Agent. The Luurgetru house is a relatively recent development, rumored to be affected by lycanthropy. How the Baron got the money to buy his title and estates is a closely guarded mystery. Their primary export is finely wrought adamantium and mithril. Jerome has traveled to Westport to represent the family business and seek out new fabrication opportunities.

Concept: Industrial spy. Jerome is from a of El Dorado famenation of bugbears dwelling in a mountain city on another continent. Recently they experienced an incursion by explorers that led to a major Deity accident (their Deity is the elemental at the heart of a volcano) and which motivated them to become more interactive with the world outside. As part of this initiative they've bought a royal house and are attempting to acquire knowledge of the outside world and technologies.

Description: Jerome wears an amulet that allows him to take the form of a male human, except in times of extreme emotion. As such he normally appears as a tall, well muscled man, wearing fine clothing. But taken without the amulet or in times of intense rage he appears to be a massive hulking brute. Jerome wields a glaive and Scale Mail armor (if he can afford them).

I wasn't going to apply to this game as I have more than enough, but then one of my games effectively died, and I started getting an idea for a character concept, so I figured wth.

Hook: Adventurer:
The Adventurer's Resource Center is sometimes numbered among the city's guilds, but ARC is a looser coalition than most guilds. You are a bonded member of the guild; the Center occasionally offers you contracts.
  • Why did you join? It was thanks to an uncommon Elf Sorceress who went by the name Elly Anthrose. She was an uncommon Elf because of her penchant to throw off her Elvish caution and embrace her affinity for Wild Magic. In that regard, she acted more reckless than a reckless Human. It was Elly's recklessness that prevented Rook from skewering her, and when Elly had Rook at her mercy, the Elf asked if Rook would like to get a drink. It was so off the wall that Rook found herself agreeing. It was only after that, that Rook found out the Elf had charmed her magically. As a Half-elf with resistance to such magic, Rook was embarrassed but found herself liking the crazy Elf anyway. Elly was in the ARC Guild, and though Rook was hesitant at first, Elly eventually got her to join as well and is the only one in the guild to know that she used to be a Pirate.
  • When? Rook joined the Adventurer's Resource Center Guild approximately half a year ago, so she is still new and has some dues to pay. Elly is Rook's Guild mentor.
Concept: Fighter Planning on using the Fighter Archetype(Sharpshooter) and Fighting Style(Mariner) from UA if it's allowed.sharpshooter(Dagger):
Pirates raised Rook, and she was named for a chess piece by Stev know's who Rook's parents are and what her name is. I figure I will leave this part up for the DM to decide. Still, if you want some input from me, then Rook was the daughter of a Nobleman or prominent Guild Leader, and she was shipped off during some political trouble to a friend(Stev Danner) for safekeeping only everything went south, and her parents are dead, captured, or somewhere in between.Stev Danner, the captain of the Pirate vessel Sirin's Repentance. From age nine, Rook only knew the rough and tumble life of a pirate, and that would have been all she had known if not for one fateful day in Westport when Stev threw her Some of the older crew members were starting to figure out who Rook was because she started to look so much like her mother now that she was an adult. So Stev cut her loose, and those older crew members are now feeding the fish at the bottom of the sea. (If your thinking this sounds like what happened in Rogue One...yes, I stole this idea from that movie )off his ship and weighed anchor soon after. Betrayed by the only family she ever knew, Rook used what skill's she had gained pirating and tried to make a life for herself in the big city by robbing people at night, and that was how she met Elly Anthrose. Rook isn't sure her life is better jumping through hoops for a Guild, even one loosely organized like the ARC, but it beats being a pirate. Rook is still sensitive about Stev's betrayal, so she has avoided getting to know the other ARC guild members very well. Every day, Rook makes time to scan the docks looking for the Sirin's Repentance as Rook has vowed she will get what she's due, and Stev Danner will get his.

Description:
Rook has a lythe and wiery build reminiscent of most Half-elves, with the pale skin and auburn colored hair of her Elven mother, and the slate grey eyes and hardened demeanor of her Human father. Or so Rook tells herself whenever she chances to look into a mirror. She does not know who her parents are or what they looked like as her earliest memories are from the time right after the pirates took her when she was nine years old. Whatever memories Rook had before then are gone. Maybe she is repressing a traumatic memory, maybe she took a blow to the head and had amnesia, or maybe she had her memory's wiped by magic. Who knows and who cares is Rook's usual response whenever Elly asks or when she starts to think about the memory block. Rook wears leather armor wherever she goes and is rarely without several daggers. Even at the apartment she shares with Elly, you could find a few daggers hidden about the place. Rook keeps her long hair in a single braid that reaches the middle of her back, and alway's wears a hooded cloak and a scarf to obscure her features from sight when on the job. Rook has a small scar along the bottom of her jaw where a blade sliced her during a pirate attack and several along her arms and on her body. Forgoing heavy armor and using only daggers, Rook has accepted the fact that she would get injured from time to time, but better to risk her hide than be slowed down by heavy armor.

@Silk; for ages I was thinking about a character like yours for this game. She was going to be a fighter/sharpshooter too, but I wanted to try to specialise in the blowgun. Couldn't get it all to hang together so I ended up scrapping it and going all barbarian. Good luck anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing your finished app.

I've wanted to play a dagger thrower in 5e for a while now, and I was going to go Eldritch Knight to gain the return feature to both weapons eventually, but then I came across the Sharpshooter, and it just fit better.

Incidentally, I am also planning on taking the Sharpshooter feat from the PHB at 4th level too. Well, if my character gets chosen and the game lasts that long. Plus, I figure, in a magical setting like Westport, eventually getting at least 1 returning dagger wouldn't be that hard.

And off to finish my character

Artificers can create a returning weapon as an artificer infusion.

Yea, umm, how do I say this... I dislike Artificers <shrug> I just do. I've disliked them from the first time I saw them in the 3.5 edition of Ebberon, and my opinion hasn't changed much since then.

Hmm. Not quite sure where to take this conversation from here. I had volunteered, because an Artificer could craft an ‘infusion’ (a returning weapon) for another character to use. Does your dislike of Artificer apply to use gear created by them? Does it apply to the entire character based on the class? There are several applications based on the class. As well, the game world appears to be fairly heavily centered on artificers - e.g., several NPCs, a number of artificer like items.

No, I'd use gear crafted by them. I thought you were suggesting I take the class for my character. There goes me and my assumptions again

Yea, I can see there will be lots of magical items available in this game, so I'm assuming I could easily get two infused daggers from the local Artificer.

In Westport, where creatives are acquired and traded like currency, bidding wars for exclusive rights to the most sought after painters, poets, and musicians can often reach astronomical prices. Though having a patron house will provide artists with a moderate amount of wealth and stability, in truth, the arrangement is often more like indentured servitude.

The contracts are rigid, and artist’s lives are regulated by the whims of their house. Owned artists are a possession to be displayed and fawned over like a rare vase or an ornate tapestry. For some the arraignment is satisfactory, for others it is not.

Though Gideon was initially pleased when Maria Swan offered him patronage after overhearing his performance at the Fairground market, he has begun to realize the limitations of his current situation. His position grants him access to perform for some of the city’s most influential and wealthy citizens, and there is something about Gideon’s lowborn status and disarming talent that often makes them reveal more than they should. The longer he remains in the patronage of house Swan however, the more Gideon sees the rot festering at the core of the city.

Recently he has been secretly spending more time in Westport’s dark places, and he is beginning to sympathize with the revolutionary undercurrent that is churning beneath the city’s glistening veneer.


Concept
There are those that make music for the joy that it can into bring to the world.

There are those that make music seeking the recognition, fame, and wealth that can be achieved by the truly exceptional.

And there are are those who make music because it is a deeply felt fire which burns so brightly, and so hot, that to not let it out would cause the maker to become fully and irrevocably undone.

Gideon is the third of these.

Until recently, music has been the single, undeniable, and all consuming focus in Gideon's life. He has a voice that can rise above the cacophony of a crowded market like a pealing bell, making strangers stop in their tracks and vendors pause their trade.

In fact, it was from Westport’s teeming Fairground market that Gideon was plucked from obscurity. On that particular day he’d been busking on an overturned fish crate, hoping to earn enough coin to buy a warm bed for the night. It wasn’t typical for highly born folk to attend the market in person, but Maria Swan was there that day, and from the moment she heard Gideon’s voice she knew that she wanted to claim him for her own.

As a house musician for the family Swan, Gideon now sleeps each night under a silk canopy, and the view from his window on the second floor of the family’s Northcliff mansion looks out over the crumbling alleys and winding Eastgate streets that used to be his home. His music continues to gives him release, and allows him an escape, but a seed of doubt over the path that he has chosen has taken root in Gideon and is steadily growing.

So it wasn’t until I’d worked on my app for awhile that I realized it has a lot of overlap with popculturebard’s character submission (which is terrific by the way.) That’s my bad. I thought about trying to slap something different together at the last minute, but decided instead to stick with my original idea and hope for the best. Either way, good luck to the other applicants- this looks to be a pretty awesome game!
