Name: Salazar Kalitove
Race: Shobhad
Class: Elementalist(Weather, Nature, Destruction)

Appearance: Skinny and lithe, lean and wavy, Salazar stands tall even for a Shobhad at a half head taller than most others of his kind with much less of the bulk and muscle mass they usually possess. His elongated pale cream head has beady black eyes set in, slivers for nostrils, and a wide sharp toothed grin that he keeps uncovered, preferring to display his emotions and attitude without consideration for the implications. He wears clean tailored brown pants, capped by reptilian leather boots and a brown leather belt, with a bright crimson scarf around his long neck that billows back in the cool Akitonian winds.
Winding around his torso , up his neck and head, and even along his four arms is a navy blue tattoo depiction of a Shobhad calling the power of the elements to his bidding. Each arm features a different aspect of the weather, the upper left carries the sun on his shoulders with rays of light and heat streaking to his palms, the upper right has a violent thunderstorm with rain and lightning extending outwards. The lower left is a howling torrent of snow and ice, and the lower right is a gale of wind swirling and spiralling along.

Personality: Salazar is an emotional man, who's actions and reactions are heavily dependent on his perception of the situation at hand, often preferring to go with the flow rather than push back against the odds. That being said he often considers the odds to be in his favor and inevitably pushes towards his wants with fervor and resolution, though his wants are often simple. They include living an uncomplicated life in a sustainable environment and fulfilling the obligations he takes on for the sake of uncomplicating his life of unnecessary entwinations. Yet much to his vocal chagrin he cannot escape living amongst others the more he aims for solitude, and hardly admits to himself that he enjoys the amusing company of others, even the soft folk that are not of the Shobhad race. Salazar's motivation in life is driven largely by the goal of greatness, of recognition from his own peoples though they have shunned him for seeking his greatness in a way that isn't decided only by battles.

Background: Salazar was born on the slopes of Ka during the yearly Clanmoot, the one time of year when peace grips the tribes of Shobad-neh and so first opened his eyes to a serenity rarely shared by his peoples. But this was the calm before the storm, and as he was raised he learned the harsh truth of his tribe, the Ipik-neh, his people the Shobhad, and indeed the rest of his world. Surviving battle was his life as his tribe would move with the currents of power and water that guided their needs. Always Salazar would cherish the moments of peace in between the tribes in-fighting no matter if those moments were fleeting like the first moments of the morning or flourishing like the day of Clanmoot. His attention to the current moment trained his perception of his surroundings and of his environment, his skin tingling with the changes of the air, the shifting directions of the wind, the drops and elevation of the temperature and as an adolescent he was already adept in forecasting the coming weather. This barometric perception was of great assistance on many occasion for his own tribe the Ipik-neh, as they rode into battle on the tail of dust storms, found refuge from great sand storms before they struck, and prepared for droughts that only Salazar could accurately predict.

All his expertise grew into an inkling of magic, his will drawing the heat from the ground and the water from the air to provide boons for those he loved. But he was no warrior in the way his kin were and while he knew how to fight he rarely partook in the engagement, a fact that would not go unnoticed by the Ipik-neh. They goaded him and taunted him to involve himself in the glorious battles of the Shobhad-neh, shunned him when he wouldn't and called him soft like the other races of Akiton, and though he lived his life in service of them he could take the treatment no longer. Salazar solidified his will and declared to his tribe that they were foolish for following glory so blindly and that true glory could be found in all aspects of their lives without pointless bloodshed. He took a blood oath and vowed to leave and never to return to the Ipik-neh until he had claimed his own glory among the races of Akiton, and would prove his worthiness on the day of return by travelling to the peak of Ka, the Pillar in the Sky, his Great-Father that held him as a babe, and returning from the peak having passed the Test of the Mountain. Salazar strode into the desert night and has not turned back since.

Meeting Antor Hemmin: *plop* Salazar planted the butt of his Long rifle into ground and kicked up a puff of dust. The sun was falling in the west and illuminating the canyon with a deep burgundy glow, long shadows stretching further and further with every minute. Glimmering lights from Maro were already lit and dotted the city and hurried citizens made their way to their homes and favorite drinking establishments. From the slight rise Salazar could see an airship below with sails furled and gangplank set down onto the ground, an old human man leaning on the edge of the ship against the railing. The Shobhad made his way down the hill towards the ship, using his rifle as a walking stick, shielding his eyes from the sun with one hand. Coming closer he could see the man in better detail, tall for a human, even more than half as tall as Salazar and just as slim limbed as apparent by the waving gesture. Salazar waved back and called out a greeting. "Good eve human. Might I ask for some directions while there is light? I wondered if you knew which inns accept Shobhad within the city." His lower arms made a sweeping motion towards Maro, his upper motioning the sun setting before them. Already there was only a sliver of red shimmering in a mirage and he knew that twilight was upon them. The man crossed his arms and pondered for a moment before beaming a grin to Salazar. "There is one place I know of that might welcome you for the night, but his establishment is a rather exclusive place. The owner will only let you in with a reference or recommendation. He's the type that keeps good care in his stock y'know? Antor.. He wont just let any ruffian into his home. I could provide you with said recommendation but first, who are you?"

Salazar erected his posture and held held his rifle by the end of the barrel with all hands and formally greeted the human. I am Salazar Kalitove, of the cunning Ipik-neh, of the glorious Shobhad-neh. May water meet your lips. I am a wanderer in search of opportunity and have found my way to this populace to achieve whatever my destiny may be. Other than that there is little to tell you about myself or offer in exchange for the word you give me other than my water that I freely share. And perhaps compliments on your vessel... I admit I have never been so close to an airship as I am now."

The wiry man let Salazar's words hang in the air, darkness now fully upon them. The distant city lights shone in his eyes like starlight. "Well son... The Crimson Wings will take you in tonight and luckily you don't have to go too far. The name's Antor Hemmin and this here is my fine establishment, home, and all around marvel of technology. Climb aboard and come in, dinner will be ready shortly, and speaking of do mind your head going through the door."

There are others, and larger settlements have docks for them to load and unload. However, traveling by road is also common, even if it's longer, because not everyone can afford a flight.

There are not enough flying ships to justify lots pirates, but there are a few. Very few.

right on. i think the detonator gadget could potentially be REAL fun to play with in ship-to-ship combat .. .. ..

i've edited my original application, formally changing Georgie into a Technician. i also made the application more, uhh, standard. my apologies. i'm wicked new here !!!

would it hypothetically be cool with you for Georgie's prosthetic leg to function as an 'improved boots' invention, per the Technician class ?

Tentatively adding Android to the available races list, but definitely no more than one PC, and even that's not guaranteed.

And I'll need some interesting motivation from a machine to allow it.

I recommend reading Distant Worlds if y'all have that campaign book accessible. I'll definitely be creating a character soon though this is both a new world for me and a new way of being a character. I like the idea of creating a character in modular fashion, though I don't know how I'll make a moisture farmer/water vendor character in mechanical terms.

Standard lizardfolk have a swim speed, but that doesn't seem appropriate for the inhabitants of a desert world like Akiton. I would suggest that we remove the swim speed and replace it with this:

Desert Runner (2 RP): Prerequisites: None; Benefit: Members of this race receive a +4 racial bonus on Constitution checks and Fortitude saves to avoid fatigue and exhaustion, as well as any other ill effects from running, forced marches, starvation, thirst, and hot or cold environments.

Removing Swim is logical, and Desert Runner brings lizardfolk up 9 RP, the same as ratfolk. However, now that I started checking, Androids are 16 RP, and I have no idea about the core races. This means if someone wants to play an Android, they have to suggest a 9 RP version of the race.

Does anyone know how many RPs were used for the core races?

This page shows RP totals for many races.

A quick summary: Core Races have a range of 8-11 RP. Expanded Races range 5-17 (I think Svirfneblin should be treated as an outlier at 24; and Drow Nobles, of course, that no one ever allows in a game).

At 16 RP, Android is pretty similar to Aasimar (15 RP), Fetchling (17 RP), and Suli (16 RP).

The new nature of the magic spheres is so cool and complicated to me that the only option seems to be using the most modular class and try the incanter.

So can we use any of the products from drop dead studios? Tempted to start reading through the Tempestrarian's hand book and spheres of apocrypha nature packages. And finally does anyone know if there are any officialish shobhad race stats?

Shobhad

It's not that complicated, I think: you gain a number of talents, that's what you can do with magic; you gain a number of Power Points, that's how often you can do those things you know.

Not for now, but I'll have to think of a way to get everyone aboard. I deliberately made the ship small so that there is no NPC captain to decide where to go to, but I just realized it means that somehow the team has to find it abandoned, or something like that. When I figured that out, I might need some more info.

Anyway, I like Vashk.
