I'm grateful for the two applications to fill the open slot so far. In case you also think of applying, there are still a few days left!

The new application period ended a few hours ago. I would like to thank the two applicants very much. Both of them would have made a great addition to the campaign, but as there was only one slot open, I had to make a choice.

Eventually, I decided to invite Bluejack to Out of the Abyss. Bluejack, please post your character in the game's roster. This decision does not mean that the other application wasn't a good one. As I have already said, I just had to make a choice.

Thank you very much for your application. You included a link to the game you are currently in and which is slowing down as you write. Unfortunately, the game forums seem to be private as I cannot peek at it. I didn't know they were private. Here's a couple links to West Marches games that seretID DM'd.

I haven't check every detail on your character sheet yet. We can go through it in detail if you want should you be selected. One thing though: You write "Universe?" for the deity of your character. In general, people in the Forgotten Realms should have a deity so that their souls are taken care of when they enter the afterlife after their deaths. I'm not opposed to the idea of Walker having a deity. Being a monk, I thought it likely that his religion would be more philosophy than deity based. If it comes to it, I'll do some investigation into the deities of Faerun and choose one.

Where would you locate the youth and the recent whereabouts of Walker in Faerûn? The adventure takes place in the Sword Coast North so you may want to look at the geography of that part. Again, an intelligent answer for this question would require research (and I don't really know where to source it for this one) as I don't have an intimate knowledge of Faerun's geography. What little I learned and still remember from reading the Drizzt books many years ago - and those didn't have maps in them.
Perhaps I should let you know that I'm a bit of a geezer, just getting back into D&D for a year now. My last D&D immersion was when THAC0 existed and an 18 strength was followed by a /xx. I know the 5e PH a bit, but not much else. Back to the question: I purposely left a lot of stuff vague out of ignorance. I know, that's 2 questions in a row I answered without answering. This is another "I'll have to get back to you on that if truly necessary."

Who were Walker's parents? Why did a wood elf leave the elven communities? They were merchants who sold high-end elven trade goods to nobles - mostly wine. Slaughtered in an attack by Orc bandits while going through a mountain pass, Walker managed to hide and was later found by a monk from the nearby monastery.

Another question we have to answer is the following: How could Walker have ended up in the Underdark, in the duergar city of Gracklstugh? There is certainly some story to tell. What status does he currently have in Gracklstugh? The grey dwarves have no love for strangers. This is about the only one I had any ideas for, but left it intentionally vague so you could make up what you wanted and slide him into your story easily. I put that in as a refresher for what's already been established in his background. At the end, I added a bit about him selling rare items. Well, he had a rare item and learned from an agent of a wealthy merchant in Gracklstugh that it was in very high demand. The agent claimed that he didn't have nearly the price necessary for such an item (the item is DM's choice) and convinced Walker to be led to his master's home in Gracklstugh. It was here that the item was taken from him offhandedly (as the merchant turned out to be a wizard as well as an influential merchant with many men-at-arms) and Walker was denounced as a thief and swindler. The city guard, needing no more than the word of this merchant against an already hated surface elf, threw him into prison. This is why I didn't write this in the first place: this introduction depends on the other characters being somehow motivated to spring him for some reason - perhaps even freeing him at the last moment in the execution square. I hadn't thought TOO deeply on the story hook, not being the DM, but I thought it kind of cool. What better character to start with nothing but prison rags than a monk? Also, when freed, Walker will have a line (inside info) on this wizard/merchant and his estate for an additional side quest/story hook. I honestly don't know the module material we're playing and would prefer it that way, so I just grabbed everything from my imagination. I can easily contrive something entirely different if you don't like the hook.
