Now I'm having a debate with myself. Is there going to be any ship piloting because I would like to be more important to the group than just a big bruiser and piloting is something a Wookiee could do.

Interesting! I've tried a couple of times to DM a Star Wars setting but it is still quite overwhelming to keep with all the lore. Maybe trying out as a Player would be just what I need Here is my application:

Rama'kal'kaya
right-aligned image

Name: Rama’kal’kaya (Rama or Kaya)
Age: 23 Life cycles
Species: Chiss (Silver skin, Black hair)
Class: Operative (possibly Saboteur)
Alignment: Law Balanced.
Personality: Takes pleasure in refining and putting her skills to work. Credits are required to put food in the belly, but she won’t allow sums to dictate how she thinks. Always tries to avoid taking lives.
Brief Background: Born on Nar Shaddaa, both of her parents were smugglers and thieves who got imprisoned when she was little. She had to take care of her other three sisters and eventually the need for credits brought her in her parent’s line of work. She tires to detach herself of the idea that this is who she is. In her words “she does the work that is being offered, but she does it on her own rules”. But the reality is that often she ends up in more trouble because of that. She is close with her three sisters who are still in their teens and she secretly hopes they never see of their parents again.
RP Sample: The young chiss girl found cover in the shadowy alley behind the casino. She was trying to catch her breath, her mind had gone blank and she was still not sure if what just happened was real. But it was and the blood on her hands was proof for that. That man’s blood. The job had failed, but that was not her biggest concern now. She warned him, but it was already too late. It was him or her. The sounds of steps closing by distracted her from her thoughts and reminded her the dangers had not yet passed. When two masked men with blasters entered the alley, they saw the bloody prints next to the removed top of the sewer drain. They disappeared down the canals, while Rama watched them from the roof of the nearby building, thankful to her quick wits saving her skin once again.
Destiny:
Experience with Waterdeep: Dragon Heist: Not at all.

Our forum threads have been assigned and I've started filling out the information for the game. In particular, I'd like to draw attention to the Defense Roll variant rule we'll be using. It gives the players more to do and more agency in the action, but want to make sure all applicants are prepared for the extra dice rolls. I'll update the original post, but here's the link to the rule definition.

Have a look and let me know if you have opinions!

“MontageManiac Application”Name: Keeruk
Age: 23
Race: Rishii
Class: Sentinel (Likely Path of Focus)
Alignment: Law Balanced (lean to light)
Personality: Keeruk has generally had bad experience with people outside the Jedi order. Since it’s been nearly 20 years since he was a youngling on Coruscant, He’s been on the run ever since. He certainly acts more like a bounty hunter now than a Jedi.

Appearance: Blue and yellow feathers. Fairly loud compared to the rest of his species, and has contributed in many slavers attempting to take him as a prize. He dresses in simple attire, more similar to a monk then the advanced tech of other bounty hunters.

Brief Background: Taken from a world and family he barely knew, the force sensitive hatchling Keeruk was whisked away to the Coruscant Jedi Temple. With what seemed like barely any time at all, Keeruk was enveloped in the monastic scheduling of the temple. He would call the premises home for the next couple years, finally becoming a padawan to the kind Master Brarr, a Togorian Jedi Guardian.

Soon after, the tragic Order 66 occurred. En route with a battalion of clones to finish mopping up a Separatist stronghold, he and his master were ambushed within their quarters. Master Brarr managed to hold them off until Keeruk manages to escape through the venting shafts of the ship. He escaped in a pod and made his way to the closest planet, Tatooine.

With time, and a lot of luck, Keeruk managed to find himself apprenticed to a bounty hunter who worked for the hutts, Embo. Passing himself off as a street urchin, Keeruk was Embo’s shadow, and learned as much as he could from the famed bounty hunter, without getting in his way.

Soon Keeruk had been an associated bounty hunter longer than he had been with the Jedi order. Some jobs he had to do in order to survive would not have been appropriate for a Jedi… but Keeruk refused to give into the dark side of the force, despite the attraction at times during his work.

It wasn’t too long with Embo before Keeruk was attracting attention of his own, and not from prospective employers. Inquisitors were suspicious of Keeruk. He’d avoided using his lightsaber as much as he could, but there were other feats he performed which spread rumors he may be force sensitive. If they’d only known.

It was years of Keeruk moving around the galaxy, constantly on the move, taking jobs where they came to make enough credits to move on again. But the lifestyle of a bounty hunter is such that debts accrue… they always do.

So now Keeruk finds himself on Nar Shaddaa, hoping to keep hidden while working enough to pay off his debts and keep ahead of the Inquisitors for as long as he can.

Rumors of rebellion spread like wildfire, and he’s heard the unbelievable: the Empire lost their prized battle station that could destroy worlds, shortly after creating it. Maybe a deal could be made with the rebellion… if the inquisitors or his rivals didn’t do him in first.

RP Sample (not a writing sample):

Keeruk
Male Rishii Sentinel

Keeruk approximated gentle eyes for a smile, his beak never quite managing the gesture, "I believe the word has spread quite quickly that just about everyone even amongst the outer rim has heard the tales. But tales they must be. I find it difficult that the legendary Vader would be so easily snuffed out. Still… interesting times ahead."

Glancing at The Slag Pit’s current clientele, the Rishii bounty hunter was half considering joining the raucous behavior. But he thought better of it. There was a contact he was supposed to meet this night, but they seemed to be delayed. That never meant anything good.

"Bonnie, if I could bother you for a blue milk, that would be fine. I need my wits about me with this crowd." Nodding once more, Keeruk goes back to monitoring the crowd for either his contact… or people he’d rather not see.

Actions
Move: List what movement I make during combat.
Standard: State whatever standard action might be.
Bonus: whatever bonus action I may have.

OOCFull disclosure, I’m somewhat porting over a character I had in a Tomb of Annihilation game, but I think it fits well enough in this story that it shouldn’t be an issue. I hope. Haha.

Destiny:

Have you played/read Waterdeep: Dragon Heist before? Currently playing in a PbP that is running it, but we haven’t gotten far yet.

It is Star Wars, so while the published adventure sticks to one city, you should not be surprised if you end up on a starship and things are shooting at you.

Thank you, Quick. It's true, it wouldn't be star wars without a little space stuff.

Star wars and 5e? Sign me up! I'll have the application posted here by the end of the week, please let me know if I should expedite the process (want to deliver a serious application, but don't want to miss the deadline!). In the meantime, I would very much appreciate an RP prompt!

In the interest of clarity, I added my super generic RP prompt to the original post. Enjoy!

I looked at it and for some reason, it reminded me a little bit of THAC0. Should still be doable

Seems pretty straightforward. A couple of extra rolls are no big deal.

I believe my application is done. I’ve changed the posting window a bit to properly “port” it over. Please let me know if there’s anything I’m missing!

I usually don't set hard deadlines because I'm insecure and I never know how a game ad will go over. However, when I decide there's a deadline, I'll give a week's notice. Spoiler alert: We have a forum, and I've got most of the first chapter stuff loaded up so it might be soon.

App and character sheet should be good to go! I just need to find out more about the Force Alignment, will add when able. (added in the notes area in char sheet)

Zee
left-aligned image

Name: Cratth'zisha'mluri ('Zee' or Zisham)
Age: 28
Race: Chiss
Class: Sentinel into Path of Focus
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Appearance: Blue skin, dark black braided hair, red eyes.

Character Sheet

Personality: Zee is calm and analytical, but that doesn't stop her from speaking up when she has an opinion. She leverages her burgeoning Force powers to give her exceptional social insight and ability, allowing her to talk her way into (or out of) almost any situation. Zee is slow to open up to strangers, but is protective of those who make it on her good side.

Brief Background: Zee hails from Csilla, on the other end of the galaxy from Nar Shaddaa. Unfortunately, that distance doesn't stop the spectre of her family's debt from hanging over her head. When Zisham's parents were raising her and her brother, they took out large debts from Hutt loan sharks to send their children to the best academies money could buy. Her brother followed the path of civil service while Zisham studied Xenopsychology. As she completed her studies, Zee could feel something deeper inside, an energy pulling her forward into greater understanding and ability.

Along with a seemingly innate ability to read others, Zee spent time delving deep into the Holonet, testing just how far her slicing abilities could go. She eventually stumbled on some darknet records alluding to the Jedi order's training regimens, which she siphoned away into a private datacard. Following some loose ideas from the files, the young woman began testing her abilities in private, finding she could augment her strength, speed, or natural recovery almost at will. As her family's loan came payable and her parents were unable to pay on the growing debt servicing, it was clear that the Hutts would begin threatening Zee and her brother to extort from their wider family. Their parents booked them each a one-way ticket to Corellia and sent them off.

Zee found it difficult to find work as a xenopsychologist on Corellia, as the increasingly alien-hostile Imperial administration clamped down on the Core Worlds. Using her natural gifts, she hunted down scum for the local authorities, giving her all the combat practice she could need. After completing a sizable bounty for a private citizen (a government official that needed his rogue daughter brought home.. delicately), Zisham had enough cash-on-hand to purchase a black market lightsaber hilt, largely regarded as a relic or art piece. She restored it after tracking down a serviceable Kyber crystal, and keeps it hidden away when in Imperial systems. We catch up with her as she finds herself completing bounties on Nar Shaddaa, sending home money to help her father and mother stay afloat long enough for her to hit it big...

RP SampleAs she sat waiting, Zisham sipped at a pint of Lomin ale while taking in the thump of the bar's music. A tad loud, but not altogether unpleasant.. Before long, her head bobbed lightly to the beat. Her braided black hair and piercing red eyes drew a few passing glances from the other patrons, but they looked away just as quickly.

"Zee" (the name she went by to keep things.. simple) had been on Nar Shaddaa for several months now. Before that, a dozen other worlds, tracking down difficult bounties. Compared to some localities in the Core Worlds, the Outer Rim could be wild, but it did allow for a bit of.. flexibility. Laws were lax out here, but the penalties stiff enough to keep general order. When the Hutts care to enforce them.. Her quarry on this dark evening was a scummy Zabrak that was a regular at the establishment. His sales of spice to the local poor was becoming a serious problem for the local Hutt mobster. It was certainly difficult to impress the poor into gangs when they were mortally addicted to spice!

As she got near the bottom of her drink and considered another, the tall Zabrak spilled into the bar, laughing and cavorting with his friend, a lanky Duros. Crossing the room, the Zabrak scanned the room with a big stupid grin on his face. Locking eyes for a split-second with Zee, he continued over yelling, "BARTENDER! STRONG STUFF! You know what I like!" He laid one arm on the bar while reaching down to his pocket, presumably for a credit chip. In an instant, his hand went for the blaster pistol slung in an open holster. He spun toward Zee's booth, and fired mostly blind, sure that it was hard to miss a surprised target from this range. The bar went silent as the shot rang out, music still thumping through the speakers. A look of confusion washed over his face when he didn't hear a scream of pain or see the Chiss sitting there anymore.

Zee was already to his right, inside the man's peripheral vision and far too close for him to effectively bring his blaster around. Swinging the left end of her vibrostaff into his neck, the weapon made a sickening crack as it impacted his collarbone. His gun arm went limp as the second swing came from the other end, landing squarely in his gut. The large man crumpled unconscious to the floor, his Duros friend staring in horror. "This man's fate is decided. Yours is not. I suggest you leave this district." The blue humanoid tucked his head and ran out of the bar as fast as his legs would carry. Zee turned and transferred the credits for her drink, nodded at the bartender, and slung the Zabrak over her shoulder. Gola the Hutt will decide what to do with you, friend, and I've got a feeling he might pay me a few extra credits for dropping you off alive..

Destiny:

Have you played/read Waterdeep: Dragon Heist before? One of my in-person DMs started it at the end of a session, but we never came back to that campaign, so nope!
