Also -- as discussed in past post I think we agreed Liana would use her Aid Another talents to help one person per day.

The Conch Shell game seems to dominate play, probably because it is POORLY CONSTRUCTED as a game mechanism. See the harsh flames, bright red with disdain for creating a game with too much win. :-).

Anyway, two people are playing at diplomacy and she's not half bad at that, so:

Dice Who to aid, 1 Damien, 2 Grim.:
1d2 2

Dice Aid Another (Diplomacy, Grim) DC 10:
1d20+8 (19)+8 Total = 27

So Grim -- the spirit of Liana hovering in the back of your mind lends +5 to Diplomacy.

So I have attempted to nerf the conch shell game's payout, but, ummm... yeah, don't expect it to last past day two :3

Your feedback is important to the team here at McDonald's...

Instead of the payout being 40 minus the opponents result, why not make it Your Result Minus the Opponents Result. Payout Zero if they beat you, Payout doubles if you beat their result by 5 or more or 10?

Grim has rolled a 24. if they roll 20 the payout is just 4 GP, if they roll 10 the payout is 28 GP (14 difference and doubled beating by more than 5/10)

further adjustments for Crits and Fumbles at GM discretion, maybe x3 for one x4 if both show up. Average payout isn't a lot but could potentially be quite substantial which would entice customers to try their luck. You crit with a result of say 31 and they fumble for 1 and your looking at a potential payout of 120gp

I do like that better than mine (which was add ten if you beat them, minus ten if they beat you) although I do think there should be a minimum of, like, 2.5gp or something small. This is a job, none of you get paid negative money.

Could just make it 1.5x for a win. Seems much less complicated to me.

Or keep it the same but implement a cooldown of 1 or more in game days so that one player isn't just raking in the gold and people yell "rigged!"

If you guys want me to stop doing to conch game I will. Honestly, of the original games it was just the one that played most to my skill strengths. Not trying to create issues.

Hi, on my day off, here to say that Kara is bartending. It's not about money, its about playing character.
Dice Perception:
1d20+6 (10)+6 Total = 16

I actually don't even know what the issue is. Certainly not enough for anyone to be getting upset over.

It's no major problem, I was just teasing the DM a bit, as if everyone choose the same option that is often an indication of it being mechanically dominant. Peach + no worries here. :-)

Liana was going for diamonds and dirt -- dice rolls committed to in a previous post.

Getting just 3 diamonds, she tries to take her opponent's diamonds.

She succeeded at aid another (self), so +5 on her Sense Motives check.

Her Sense Motives check is 16, which hits the target DC 15.

She takes 4 Diamonds from your opponent.

Nets at 3+4 = 7 diamonds X 5 = 35 gp earnings.

Decided to stick with the conch, as throwing a bunch of halfling boys around doesn't feel all that sporting. Anyway, the conch. Base 40 - opp result (12) = 28. My approach roll of 16 beat the 12, so that's a bonus +10 gp for a total of 38gp, if I've interpreted all that correctly.

From an IC perspective I think it makes most sense for Tarbin to act as a bouncer for this shift so;

Dice Profession:
1d20+6 (17)+6 Total = 23
Dice Would also cast guidance to boost result if allowed:
1d4 1

Dice Perception:
1d20+2 (7)+2 Total = 9
Dice Would also cast guidance to boost result if allowed:
1d4 4

I DON'T WANT ROLLS, JUST FEEDBACK IN THE OOC LOUNGE PLEASE

GebetaEssentially a betting game, as mystic scarabs race across a large wooden board with chalk circles across it. The players take bets on which of the colours will first have all of its scarabs within the circles. It is a game that seems on the surface to be luck based, but rewards players who can balance the larger payoff for the more numerous scarabs with the risks.

Choose one of the four colours and roll the corresponding dice rolls. Then, after you know your result, check your results against the opponent's results of your Highest number wins. Your earnings will be determined by the amount you win by (if you win) or whether you come second, third or last.

Silver: Roll 4d6

Gold: Roll 7d4

Jade: Roll 3d10

Obsidian: Roll 2d20

Earnings at 2nd Level = a calculation depending on your dice roll

Bonuses: Come first, earn an extra 15gp. Come second, earn an extra 10gp. Come third, earn an extra 5gp.
Gurna NmeshA traditional form of halfling wrestling, one that favours a smaller, weaker opponent using technique to use a stronger, larger opponent's own weight against them. In some spheres of the city it is a noble game, full of tradition and ceremony. In the Dead Mermaid, it's an excuse for a rough scrap.

Choose one of three stances - Throw, Trip, or Sprawl. Post which approach you chose. Then roll a d20, plus a particular modifier. Compare this to the opponent's roll in the spoilerbutton. The highest result wins. If one of the wrestlers chose a stance that beats the other opponent's stance, they gain +5 to their result. If both Wrestlers chose the same stance, there is no change to the roll.

Throw: Add Strength.

Trip: Add Dexterity.

Sprawl: Add Constitution.

Throw beats Sprawl. Trip beats Throw. Sprawl beats Trip.

Opponent Description: THERE WILL BE A DESCRIPTION HERE

Earnings at 2nd Level = If you won, you earn big money. If you lost, you earn small money.
OrcstonesThere is a round board with divots cut into it, and several large balls that fit into said divots and a smaller ball that all of the players use. Each person rolls the smaller ball to collide with the other balls, knocking them into the divots to make points, while losing points for colliding with the other players' balls. The game is one that the novice would see purely as a test of precision and power, but the master knows that actually it is about careful planning and understanding each angle.

Make a Knowledge Engineering roll (you do not have to be trained to do so). If you beat a DC5, look at the odds for one of the following shots, and then choose which sort of shot you want to attempt. If you beat a DC10, look at the odds for two. Each will say whether it is a safe, unsafe, ridiculous or impossible shot. Then you will make a Sleight of Hand check - the higher DCs have a higher payout, the lower DCs have a smaller payout.

If you fail the Sleight of Hand check, you earn tiny payout.
Diamonds and DirtDiamonds and Dirt is a card game of bluffing, luck and strategy, coming from goblins who bet on whether they have Diamonds or Dirt. Players receive 10 cards and swap an agreed number of cards between each other after a minute of uninterrupted talking each, determined to have all of the Diamonds and none of the Dirt. All you have are your words and the way you lay out your cards to protect your Diamonds.

You will receive d10 number of diamonds. Then you can make either a Bluff roll to convince your opponent not to take any of your Diamonds, or a Sense Motive to figure out how many Diamonds the opponent has. Generally, if you only have a few Diamonds, it is best to make a Sense Motive check, while having lots of diamonds is best to protect the diamonds you have.

Earning at second level: The number of diamonds you have at the end of the game, with some extra calculations, is your earnings.
Rodent RouletteA large pot with coloured holes in it, leading to small buckets around the side corresponding to those colours. Then, from above, the attendent drops several handfuls of sweet, adorable mice that have definitely been fed well and treated well, because Tilly is an animal lover as well as a great employer. After betting which holes the mice will go into, players will attempt to influence the result with a combination of nudgings, breadcrumbs, throwing the mice about in the pot and sometimes punching the other players if the attendent is distracted.

Make four separate Handle Animal rolls. These are how many mice go into each of the coloured holes, in order...
Cyan
Yellow
Magenta
Black
Add five to each result, then choose which colour to focus on. Afterwards, you follow the next instruction and make an opposed roll against the opponent in question. Beating the roll will double your earnings, going lower will not change them.

Cyan: You are looking out for cheaters. Roll Perception, DC is determined by a d20 roll.

Yellow: You are throwing breadcrumbs for the mice to follow. Roll a Ranged Attack, DC is determined by a d20 roll.

Magenta: You are subtly manipulating the pot. Roll a Sleight of Hand, DC is determined by a d20 roll.

Black: You are relying on how kindly you treat the mice. Roll another Handle Animal roll, DC is determined by a d20 roll.

Earnings at Second Level: insert calculation here
Spike StackHaving been used to poverty, kobolds invented a very simple game where a group of players use sticks to build a tower without causing it to collapse. It is a game of risk, collaboration and desire, building up more and more to attain an impossible wealth before it all collapses beneath you without any sort of safety net.

Some rich elves saw the game, added a competitive element and play it with jewelled gold rods. Oh well. The Dead Mermaid has to make do with coloured wooden rods, but they still maintain the dog-eat-dog element of the elven variation. Build the tower, encourage others to do the same, bet on which idiot will cause the whole thing to fall.

Make a Craft roll. Then, after making that roll, declare how many sticks you will add. Each stick adds 1d8 to your result. You do NOT want to go over 50.

Earnings at second level: Your result and some calculation in gold pieces. If you chose enough sticks to go over 50, you instead make tiny number.
BurlesqueThe Dead Mermaid's Casino is very obviously not just a place of games and gambling. Sex and violence go hand in hand with the Dead Mermaid's business, and sometimes the best way to let off that steam is with a little show to placate the audience.

Your earnings, and general success, are determined by a Perform (Burlesque) Roll. Before you make this roll, however, please roll a d6 and choose that many parts to your routine.

Routine Skill Check DC If succeed, modify your Perform roll by...
Striptease Perform (Dance) DC10 Rolling twice and take the highest
Beat Poetry Linguistics DC10 Adding 2
Jokes about Current Affairs Knowledge (Local) DC15 Adding 5
Political Satire Knowledge (Nobility) DC20 Adding 10
Music Perform (Musical Instrument) DC5 Rerolling any result below a 5
Stunts Acrobatics DC25 Rolling a 3d10 instead of a d20

The above DCs and rewards will be randomised each time.
Menial TasksAll of the glamour, and a lot of the money, goes to those workers in those skimpy outfits, making the Dead Mermaid's Casino the wretched hive of scum and villainy that it is. But they are not the people who make the whole place go around. That would be the worker bees who buzz beneath the one-eyed glare of their queen.

Your earnings, and general success, are determined by a Profession (Worker) Roll. Before you make this roll, however, please roll a d4 and choose that many parts to your work day. You earn less money than everyone else, but you also gain an extra boon...

Task Skill Check DC If succeed, you will also gain...
Helping with Repairs Craft DC15 Edward Fletcher will improve an item's quality for you (three days for weapons)
Mixing Drinks Sleight of Hand DC15 Urin Mountainriver will point out an important place on the map you aren't aware of
Cleaning and reorganising Perception DC15 Ariadne will tell you whispers she's heard from gangs nearby
Act as a bouncer Intimidate DC20 The Maztablaztas won't watch the Bucket Brigade
Identifying troublemaking clients Sense Motive DC25 Gain a temporary boost to Sandraminae's attitude
Spying for cheaters Perception DC25 Gain a temporary boost to Tilly's attitude

The rewards that you receive last throughout the in-game day.
