Plot Summary Blood Bowl is a violent fantasy American Football/Rugby style game based on the Warhammer universe. Two teams take turns trying to move a ball to the opposing teams end zone through running and/or passing the ball while trying to avoid and/or take out the opposition. The rules are available for free here and I will include reference material within the game threads. The interest thread for the game concept can be found here. I have run a private game to test the concept and iron out the wrinkles for changing the game format to a PBP system. The test match went really well and clarified what was needed for rules adaptations for the PBP format and post formatting so I want to open things up to the public. I plan to run the matches as a type of custom league where people compete against each other for the best overall record; 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss, and possibly win percentage as well. The Blood Bowl rules provide weaker/newer teams advantages to even the playing field allowing for me to add new people to the game (or allow people to retire a team if necessary) without breaking the overall balance.

Sample Match I will be posting the private test match throughout this application thread to give possible Coach's (the irl player) a sense of how it goes. This sample match was played before all of the public game formatting was finalized so some details may be different. The images are made using MapTool. Preferably both Coaches will be using MapTool (the campaign files will be made available) or an alternative for tracking positions, player conditions, etc. as matches progress. It was determined that Leather and Denim would kick off the ball so they set up first and they are on the red side of the pitch. Application The Game has been approved I currently have no plans to limit the number of players. Don't worry if you are not familiar with the rules, as long as you are willing to read the rules carefully and learn the game I am happy to have you. This game will have time limits on posting, if you are unable to meet the time limit for a post then a penalty occurs. While I was unable to finish this game due to school work and other games, I will say this is an awesome system, and I recommend this to anyone interested in Blood Bowl. The playtest seemed to go very well, and hope some players get into this.

Just heads up I've tried using maptool before and for whatever reason my computer thinks it's critically dangerous and won't let me run it even after I've specifically allowed the site. Can anyone give me some good alternatives?

I had that issue previously but after reformatting my computer and starting from scratch I don't anymore. I am not suggesting you reformat your computer for this but the experience made me wonder if there was an issue with a specific version of MapTool which was swapped out for a newer version during the re-install. I am currently using version 1.3 b91, which is the most recent version as of the date of this post but does not appear to be available on the site at the moment, without trouble. If the download is not available when the game starts I will upload my version to ensure everyone can use it.

The security warning may have been from how you where trying to run MapTool as well. If you where trying to run it through the internet (there is a Web Launch version of MapTool) then it was probably trying to use a browser Java plugin to do so. The browser Java plugin is known for security issues so that is likely where the warning came from. Using Java outside of the web browser plugin does not have the same security risks (virtually all of the Java security exploits are actually for the Java web browsers rather than Java itself). I have Java installed but do not have any Java web browser plugins installed, the web browser plugins are not necessary to run MapTool.

I haven't found any good alternatives (free ones anyway) for MapTool. Unfortunately this game requires mapping of some kind.

Dr Feelgood is not injured and Kilrash follows up moving to to vacated E-13 position. #3 Saurus Saseth throws a Dice * Roll: 2d6 2, 1 Total = 3 2-dice block against #9 Lineman Bad Blood. I use a team Dice * Roll: 2d6 4, 4 Total = 8 re-roll for the block dice. SoT have 2/3 team re-rolls remaining. Bad Blood is pushed to J-12 and Saseth does not follow up. #4 Saurus Belkul takes advantage of Bad Blood being knocked away to throw a Dice * Roll: 2d6 6, 6 Total = 12 2-dice block against #10 Lineman Painkiller. Painkiller is knocked down to L-12 while Belkul holds his position. Dice * armor check: 2d6sch9 5, 5 ✔ Total = 10 , Dice * injury check: 2d6 4, 4 Total = 8 and Dice * casualty check: 1d51 36 Potential Injury rolls. Painkiller is KO'd and dragged from the pitch, removing the elf strength advantage. #5 Saurus Jinbor Blitzes (2 squares movement) #4 Blitzer Saxon for a Dice * Roll: 2d6 1, 4 Total = 5 2-dice block. Blitzer Saxon is pushed back to M-10 and Jinbor does not follow. Jinbor uses his remaining 3 squares of movement to move to J-15. OOC Crosses fingers for better luck with the ball than last time. At least with all of my Saurus on the field I have enough to help protect the ball. #8 Skink Asira moves in to Dice * agility check: 1d6+1sch4 (6 (natural 6))+1 ✔ † Total = 7 pick up the ball and succeeds. She stays in the relative safety of the Lizardmen cage. End of Turn

Blitzer Saxon (#4) moves to harass the Saurus Jinbor, running 6 spaces to K16. Line Elf Blood Angel (#12) moves up to the line of scrimmage at H13. Line Elf Bad Blood (#9) steps to J13. Line Elf and Top Scorer Jericho Siren (#13) also moves to the line of scrimmage, assisting Blood Angel from G13 With Elf Doro (#1) decides to hunt for Skinks and runs to E16. Blitzer Dio (#5) moves to K13. Blitzer Ozzy (#6) readies himself (or herself, it's hard to tell with all that leather and long, black hair) to intercept and moves to H10. Blitzer Axxis (#3) BLITZES! He runs 5 steps via C12-13-14-D15-E14 and Dice * BLITZ block Axxis vs Kilrash: 2d6 2, 3 Total = 5 throws a heavily assisted block at Saurus Kilrash (#2) from behind. Hitting the Saurus with a mighty block that would have seen both going down if not for he opts to use BLOCK skillAxxis' training Dice * armor break vs Kilrash from Axxis: 2d6sh10 4, 5 ✘ Total = 9 sees Kilrash going down, but the Saurus' thick skin is bruised but not scratched. Still having two rerolls left, Leather and Denim end turn 4, handing the initiative over to the Spawns of Tiamat's turn 5.

The game itself was indeed a lot of fun! 3Boxes was a mean player and pulled some really tricky stunts.

I also had a lot of trouble running maptool (mostly due to making my turns from different locations), so I actually ended up using Powerpoint and Paint while 3Boxes supplied the actual turns via maptool.

Yeah it's java that's keeping me from running the game, so do you know how I can launch it? Is there an easy way to disable my browser Java plugin? I'm not good with computers so details would be helpful, if you have the time of course.
