ARGH, Lost my mine in Phandelver...

NOTIFICATION
left-aligned image

Please read this post

Game NameAARGGH, Lost my mine in Phandelver

Game System5e, this will be the Adventure from the 5E Starter set; 'Lost mine of Phandelver'.
Beware, I am using the rules from the Player's Handbook not using the Starters Set Rulebook, after the Playtest the Wizards of the Coast was run a couple of times, they slightly edited the rules.

The D&D Starter Set is like a delicious appetizer.
You knew you were hungry when you ordered it but you didn’t realize how hungry ... until you took your first bite.
It’s delicious and it leaves you wanting more. You know that the main course is coming soon, but this will certainly hold you over until then.

ThemeThe adventure is set up that the PCs are headed for a small town, set up a central point from which they can head out on adventures, and then return to when they need to rest and recover. In this case, it’s a sleepy town called Phandelver.
As the PCs venture out from Phandelver they face the iconic monsters you’d expect in a low-level D&D adventure including Bugbears, Goblins, Hobgoblins, Ogres, Orcs, Skeletons, Zombies, and of course Evil Cultists.
The PCs may be fortunate enough to discover a few magic items throughout the adventure.
While the Rulebook may not have much for seasoned players, this book more than makes up for that. There’s enough detail provided that DMs could easily make Phandelver the setting for their next long-term campaign once they finish running this adventure path.

BackgroundMore than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver's Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power.
Human Spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called the Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin (pronounced fan-duh-lin) prospered as well.

But then disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path.
A powerful force of orcs reinforced by evil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern.
Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost.
For centuries, rumors of buried riches have attracted treasure seekers and opportunists to the area around Phandalin, but no one has ever succeeded in locating the lost mine.

In recent years, people have resettled the area.
Phandalin is now a rough-and-tumble frontier town. More important, the Rockseeker brothers, - a trio of dwarves - have discovered the entrance to Wave Echo Cave, and they intend to reopen the mines.
Unfortunately for the Rockseekers, they are not the only ones interested in Wave Echo Cave. A mysterious villain known as the Black Spider controls a network of bandit gangs and goblin tribes in the area, and his agents have followed the Rockseekers to their prize. Now the Black Spider wants Wave Echo Cave for himself, and he is taking steps to make sure no one else knows where it is.

Information about the setting 'The Forgotten Realms'

Let's get more to the point now;
  • New members are welcome, if you can commit to a short 5E adventure and are willing to learn and read, roleplay and learn even more; this game is perfect for you.
  • We will keep it simple, 15, 14, 13, 12, 10 and 8Standard Array for the Stats, no Human Feat variant, Player's Hand Book races (No 'Elemental Evil Companion races, 'Unearthed Arcana' races, etcetera)
  • I prefer players who haven't played the Starters Set yet or are excellent at avoiding metagaming :-).
  • The Starter Set is not that expensive, so think of all the possibilities to DM your own group after having been a player in this game,
you would be no guarantees though :-pso popular and get loads of friends who admire you :-)
  • Remember, this is a short adventure, 1st till 5th level
  • I will make two DM posts a week, a Tuesday/Wednesday post, and a weekend post. So I would appreciate you could post twice a week.
I will be able to check Out Of CharacterOOC threads daily, to answer questions or provide guidance and/or feedback when needed/wanted.
  • This Adventure Path is for 4-6 players, but if there is a huge interest I will consider taking more than one group.

What are you waiting for?
To do list:
  • Think of a Race and a Class, and give him/her a name
  • Search and google for the perfect image of your character, and add it to your application (please use this to resize your image to a reasonable format)
  • Meet me in Phandalin
The characters are in the city of Neverwinter when their dwarf patron and friend, Gundrun Rockseeker, hires them to escort a wagon to Phandalin. Gundrun has gone ahead with a warrior, Sildar Hallwinter, to attend to business in the town while the characters follow with the supplies.
The characters will be paid 10GP each by the owner of Barthen's Provisions in Phandalin when they deliver the wagon safely to that trading post.

Just get into some roleplaying here, and tell me how did you character meet Gundrun Rockseeker, and why did he sign a contract to deliver goods from Neverwinter to Phandalin? What have you heard, what do you you know???

Don't go overboard, keep it within one or two paragraphs, and to keep your post tidy, use the 'spoiler tags'
  • at this point no character sheet is needed, you can try and add one if you want but I will check it when the Game is up and running :-)

I'm by no means a new player but never actually got to play the starter set so I am intrigued. If your willing to accept a seasoned player I will put an application together.

Same here - I've never played the starter scenario, and I'm interested.

Well if Bhelogan is jumping in so am I!!

Valrysn Nuerth
right-aligned image

Race: Drow
Class: Warlock

Valrysn is a rarity for there was ever on other Drow of note who had ventured out of the underdark and just as Drizzt was met wit suspicion and hatred so was his predecessor. Traveling from town to town the dark elf looked for a place that he could live without the color of his skin or the deeds of his people judge him. It wasn't until he finally met Gundrun that Valrsyn found that opportunity.

Gundrun explained to Valrysn that he hoped to one day reclaim the lost dwarven hold that was lost in a battle to the orcs long ago. The old stories told that there was magic in the place and Gundrun was very knowledgable or thrilled with the prospect so he brought Valrysn on as an advisor. The dwarf then explains that he may have a lead on the place but he needs to act discreetly. Gundrun would hire some locals to take a trade wagon to Phandalin where he would appear to be doing merchant business. Meanwhile Valrysn would be there to investigate any leads they may find on the lost dwarven holds. The drow was not fond of the idea but owed something to the dwarf who had finally given him a chance.

Name: Marcus Crantan
Race: Human
Class: Cleric (War)
Image:

Background: Marcus was raised by the Acolytes of Torm from an early age. He counted himself blessed to be a part of their number, gaining strength and serenity from his deity. He always felt, however, that he couldn't measure up to the others in his order. They had all done great deeds, and had become respected not only in the order, but from the villages and towns in the area.

Seeking to prove himself equally worthy, Marcus has set out to do the same. He met with Gundrun Rockseeker in an off-chance meeting on the road into Neverwinter, and Gundrun promised to help him gain the same honor and respect that his fellow acolytes have.

I'm a new comer to D&D and just coming towards the end off my newbie game (Hello Avner! ) so this seems like it would be a perfect jumping in point. Will think about my application and put something in towards the end of the weekend.

Goodmorning fellow RPG-ers,

@MhBlis Both Cleric and Bard were very upgraded in 5E, a Cleric can do 1d8 damamge with a Cantrip and the Bard-spells are awesome to roleplay (things like mockery, it is so much fun to think of ways to use that)

@Avner, did not find the time to read Iron DM, but now I am going to make time ;-)Bhelogan and webner; you are welcome! Beware the main goal or ambition was to give some new RPG members a platform to get into a game, so I might mix you into a group with less RPG-post count players :-)

@Rhazbiz Welcome! Thank you for the interest

So, you might use us to help corrupt mentor newer players? I think we could handle that.

So a druid, a cleric and a warlock walks into a roadside tavern... They only thing we're missing is a paladin.

Thanks again for the heads up! I'm making a fighter, planning on taking the archery fighting style and being backup melee.
I think a crossbow might be a cool weapon for an ex-cityguard to use.
