Once, there were five Imperial families: five families that, by right of the gods, could sit upon the Sakura Throne. And in the twelve hundred years since the destruction of the Teikoku Shogunate, those five families have ruled in relative peace and harmony with nature and the other nations of Tian Xia, fighting just wars against goblins, oni, and warlords promising insurrection.
But this is no longer true. Shizuru, the Empress of Heaven, no longer smiles down upon us.
One by one, the emissaries and masters of the five clans began to disappear, until only two remained: the current Emperor and his Clan, the Higashiyama; and the Amatatsu, ever-faithful to the Sakura Throne. Perceiving the threat, the two clans reacted differently.
The Amatatsu fled, running as far from those who threatened them as possible. They headed north, through the Forest of Spirits, and over the Crown of the World. They were lost in the snows, and never heard from again.
The Higashiyama ruled openly, until four years ago, when the clan placed the Emperor within the boundaries of his imperial home. In his stead, he placed his friend and bodyguard, Soto Takahiro, as Regent, watching over the Sakura Throne until the time it was safe to sit upon it once again.
And in those four years, taxes have risen, priests and families have forgotten their ancestral gods and begin to preach heresy across Minkai. Loyal lords are banished, good samurai are demeaned and exiled, and those who resist or speak ill of the Regent, such as myself, are mutilated or killed.
What became of the Higashiyama and the Amatatsu? I cannot say. Nor can I say what will become of me. This is my last entry in my life-long attempt to map the history of Minkai from the ancient past to its unclear future. I am old, my family in hiding, my line secure.
What can they do to me? They have dishonoured my Emperor, destroyed divine and familial piety, ruined tradition, and spoiled the lands of Minkai. If not me, then who?
Who can stand against the Minkai's overlord?

Toban Torman of Sarenrae Human (Varisian), Male, Neutral Good
Theologian Fire Cleric 1
"There is a fire within us all smoldering away, and if you stoke the flames it will burn brighter and stronger."
Appearance
Toban is certainly young enough by human standards being only twenty years of age, with all the energy and confidence that his youth brings. A thick mane of reddish-brown hair and a busy beard frames smooth skin and blue eyes, and despite being smaller in stature and size he is certainly muscled enough in his own fashion to suggest he is not above a hard days work. He dresses simply enough earthier tones, and could easily be mistaken for an apprentice or journeymen of any number of trades. The curved blade of a scimitar hangs securely at his side along with a hammer that looks worn with heavy use, but more obvious and marks him as a follower of the Dawnflower is the angelic ankh that is openly displayed around his neck. His voice is deep and carries but at the same time is soft, and is smile is easy giving him an unassuming appearance.
Sandpoint & associate NPC
Toban's reason for being in Sandpoint is none other than Ameiko Kaijitsu, the owner of the Rusty Dragon. Toban had always found her a remarkable young woman, and a pleasure to be around, so when he was last in town he found himself often in the Rusty Dragon where he found the company she kept to be quite accomplished and a great deal of fun. So with his apprenticeship complete at the forge and the suggestion of Father Nalor to get a bit of seasoning and scratch his adventuring itch, he immediately thought of Ameiko as somebody who could help him get introduced to some adventuring souls. So finding himself back in Sandpoint, with a room at the Rusty Dragon, he had a talk with Ameiko last night about his plans to adventure over a couple drinks and she agreed to help him find a group adventuring souls he might join up with.
The night was late and the ale cups were losing their appeal as the rain fell and the thunder boomed outside, but it was barely noticeable to the five of them that sat engrossed in their game of cards with a pot at stake that had been building all night. Things were getting serious now and this was the hand that would decide it all, one way or another somebody was about to have a good night. Looking down at his cards and then at the other Toban wasn't sure how this would play out, Ameiko had her ever present smile, Joral's face was like rock and just as unreadable, Liera impatiently drummed her fingers upon the table and Gretin's eyes had their hooded stare. ***wip***
Personality
As a man of faith it is no surprise that he has a strong belief in many of the teachings of Sarenrae and does his best to live up to her ideals as best he can, helping those in need and being a stalwart friend to those he knows. He is honest with himself and others, as he knows he is not perfect and he hopes that he can lead by example in his own way. While he is confident and passionate about his work with the forge and the teachings of Sarenrae, he doesn't seek to be a leader among those he works with, and instead finds himself drawn to those who are bold enough to take charge when needed. He is young and no where near ready to settle down, quite the opposite truthfully, he knows there is a great big world out there and he wants to see it for himself and let the goddess guide his path as needed.
Background
Toban grew up in a relatively simple life, his mother is Varisian and a fine seamstress by all accounts with a small shop that she sells her clothes from and his father had a small little bistro style restraunt in the city of Magnimar. His mother was originally from Sandpoint and Toban was born there as well, it was only when he was five that they had moved to Magnimar. The family still returned to Sandpoint often enough over the years to visit friends, though lately there are fewer of his parents generation still around those parts and the trips have become less frequent. Sandpoint remains a happy place for Toban, with the many festivals and good times that they had whenever they went , something he remembers often. His mother was a follower of Desna to some degree, but it was his father who was passionate about Sarenrae and his passion won out over his mother's distant relationship with Desna, and they would often attend temple services whenever it was feasible.
Toban unfortunately lacked the passion for cooking of his father or the good fashion sense of his mother, but found a calling all his own over the heat of the forge bending metal into useful form. Father Nalor, a smith and priest of Sarenae recruited him into the church and took him on as his apprentice, taught him to wield Sarenae's fire to bend metal to his will and showed him her compassion. He took to the forge like he was destined for it, and with Nalor's guidance his prowess with the flames grew as well
Toban wrestled with where his future was taking him, for he was far from ready to settle into the church forges and the big wide world called to him. Upon completing his apprenticeship he consulted with Nalor about his future and his mentor nodded knowingly it was no uncommon for the faithful to need some assurance they were on the right path, so he suggested Toban take some time to see the world and determine his place in it. A quest to find oneself, and where better to start such a quest than Sandpoint .

Name: Samir Ebrahid Race: Human (Keleshite) Class: Swashbuckler (Whirling Dervish) Alignment: Chaotic Good Age: 19 Homeland: Qadira, Padishah Empire of Kelesh
Sandpoint: Samir has arrived in Sandpoint after completing a contract as a caravan guard for Sandru Vhiski. Sandru requested he stay at Sandpoint instead of returning to Qadira as there may be the potential for a far more lucrative opportunity if he was willing to travel.
Description:
Samir is a lean, handsome man of average height with caramel brown skin and short naturally curly black hair that peeks out from underneath a bright blue turban. He is square jawed with regal looking features, and his brown eyes burn with a deep intensity to them underneath his thick eyebrows. A pair of dark blue lines are tattooed underneath his eyes, giving him a rather primitive look. He has an easy smile and a freshly groomed beard, and his ears each have two golden hoops in his earlobes. He wears a long, loose looking short sleeved robe of bright blue with gold trim, and from a leather loop around his neck hangs the symbol of Sarenrae. Underneath his robes he wears a simple white long sleeved shirt and pants with a pair of sturdy well worn traveling boots. Around his waist is a thick cloth belt of scarlet tied strongly at his waist and looped through his robes, from which hangs an ornate looking scimitar and several daggers. His posture and bearing signify one of noble birth, but his appearance indicates one of a lesser class. His voice is surprisingly soft for a man of his appearance, and surprisingly articulate.
Personality:
Samir is passionate and proud, with a fiery temper that dissipates just as quickly as it arises. He is charismatic and personable, and enjoys being around others no matter what the circumstances. A natural performer, he loves the crowd and the energy of those within it. Soft spoken but brash and willing to stand his ground, his pride and stubbornness can sometimes bring him trouble but his genial nature and overall good intentions often tends to smooth the situation over. He is optimistic and cheerful, and prefers to see the good in others first but has problems with authority due to his bold and stubborn mindset. He has no qualms with crossing blades with those he deems needing a lesson, but prefers to subdue or humiliate his foes rather than to end their lives. If the situation warrants it, however, he has no problem running an enemy through although he will feel guilty about it afterwards. He is usually quite patient and peaceful, looking to see if a situation can be handled without resorting to blows, but when his temper flares he is one of the first to cross steel with someone. Innately curious with a sense of wanderlust, Samir is eager to see the world and everything it has to offer.
Background:
Hailing from Qadira, Samir was Child of the Temple faith trait.raised in the Church of Sarenrae by his parents, both of whom were highly religious and members of the clergy. His father Khasek was a scribe in the Church's archives, and his mother Neesa was the lead performer and most talented of all the Church's religious dancers. From a young age Samir relished in their service to the Dawnflower, as every day was excitement with performing and worship as his family embraced their Althameri roots. Samir was a natural dancer and enjoyed the thrill of the crowd, and as soon as he was old enough he joined the celebrations under the tutelage of his mother. He soon met his father's best friend Hasim Rimja who taught the young Samir and other promising young Kelesh boys the honorable craft of the sword dance. Sarenrae sword dancing is full of powerful and fast blows as they engage in realistic looking combat with each other, but they learn to Merciful Scimitar religion trait.control their blows to prevent any serious injury. Samir loved every second of it as it combined the dancing he loved with the thrill of wielding a blade as a young man.
When he came of age and was conscripted into the Qadiran military for his mandatory two years of service at the age of 16, Samir excelled in his training in the art of the sword and close combat and was one of the top recruits. Unfortunately, his personality and stubborn pride prevented him from making anything of himself other than a lowly peon who often was stuck performing guard duty and other menial to unpleasant tasks due to his insubordination. His commanding officer in the Qadiran military was more than pleased on the date Samir finished his military obligations, and unceremoniously threw him out of the Katheer garrison with just his belongings in his hands and conveniently forgetting to tell him when the caravan he spent his last coin on was leaving for him to return home.
Stranded and homeless, Samir was desperate for work and struck a deal with a captain near the ports - he would work for free as a deck hand in exchange for a ride to Cassomir. The captain agreed, and soon Samir found himself working another merchant ship, this one heading up the Sellen River to Lake Enchartan where he found himself in Tamran. Instead of returning back to Cassomir, Samir volunteered for a lucrative contract as a Caravan Guard campaign trait from Sandru Vhiski.caravan guard from Tamran to Korvosa under the employ of a man by the name of Sandru Vhiski. Samir and Sandru took an instant liking to each other so Samir continued to work for him, and now practically on the other side of the continent Samir has agreed to stay in this small town of Sandpoint where he stands out like a sore thumb to discuss a new contract with him.
Impressions: Alice Sobieski - An Irreseni woman with the personality of the most catty Kelesh woman you could know from what he has seen thus far. She appears capable despite her size, so he makes a mental note not to underestimate her.
Eclair Adosona - A rather bookish and serious young lady at first glance, although he appreciates the tailor of her dress for their abilities. She seems quite intelligent too, which combined with her arcane knowledge is a bit intimidating to him.
Inno Minate - Samir feels uncomfortable around her, as the woman appears ill in some way due to her lack of hair. In Qadira a bald woman is a dying woman, so for a woman to choose to wear her hair that way here in Sandpoint is bizarre to Samir. She also seems cursed by the gods, and in his mind's eye one should definitely keep far away from anyone who has warranted a divine curse.
Taurin Bluecoat - At first glance, Samir just assumed this was a child in a giant overcoat. He has heard of halflings and seen one or two in his life, but never this close before. Initially a bit off-putting due to his appearance, Samir recognizes much of his own personality in Taurin and sees him as a kindred spirit in some ways due to his optimism and honesty.
Associate NPC: Sandru Vhiski
Associate Story: Incorporated into his background.

Really interested in this. Obviously, based on the character creation options, some of the classes (like the occult classes) aren't available. And that's fine, I'm not trying to pitch one. However... are occultish archetypes of marginally more normal classes copacetic?

You can make a proposal of occultish archetype applied on a normal class if you'd like.
Name:Eclair Andosona < -- Click to view sheet Race: Elf Age: 121 (Born 4592) Class: Wizard Archtype:Poleiheira Adherent Homeland: Crying Leaf Sandpoint: Eclair traveled to Sandpoint to finish her arcane studies and also to spend time with her elder sister and her friend Ameiko. Campaign Trait:Shalelu AndosonaYounger Sibling Description: Eclair is a petite woman, standing at five foot five and approximately ninety pounds. She wears a finely crafted deep blue/black dress, tailored perfectly to her body. Her long luscious black hair flows freely, though at times she pulls it to one side, which reveals on of her ears, showing her Elvin heritage. At her side she wears a short sword, accompanied by a backpack and longbow, both of exquisite taste. Personality: A precocious child Eclair has been known to find her way into mischief and trouble. At heart she is a book worm and inventor who loves to explore new ideas and places. When not studying or visiting her sister and Ameiko, Eclair enjoys spending her spare time learning how to craft things like alchemical items, armor, (Background skills)weapons and jewellery. Basically anything she might find useful for upcoming adventures. Associate NPC: Shalelu Andosona
Associate Story/Backstory: Eclair was born in a small village called Crying Leaf, and lost her father when she was very young to the attack of a bugbear assassin. Her mother, Seanthia, remained unmarried for nearly a hundred years until she took a human mercenary, Jakardos, as a second husband. This choice scandalized the community at Crying Leaf, but Eclair treated him as a father. After Seanthia was killed when a green dragon attacked their hometown, however, Jakardos left Crying Leaf and family out of heartbreak and did not return. This left Eclair and her elder sister Shalelu to question the nature of her mother's and stepfather's relationship, and wondering if Jakardos had been taking advantage of Seanthia. This abandonment left a deep impression on Eclair and Shalelu. Shalelu entered a period of depression and eventually left Crying Leaf to adopt a solitary lifestyle as a ranger and bounty hunter while Eclair headed to a new upcoming town of Sandpoint to advance her studies in the arcane.
Luckily for Eclair, Shalelu eventually settled in the wilds around Sandpoint. This allowed them to visit each other from time to time. While her elder sister Shalelu would watch over Sandpoint. Shalelu developed a close friendship with Ameiko Kaijitsu, which in turn introduced her to Eclair as well. Whenever her sister is in town, they typically spend it at Ameiko's tavern, the Rusty Dragon.
Impressions:
Inno Minate
Looks to be a pious woman who is associated with Sandru and a healer to boot. It never hurts to have a friendly healer around, provided there good at their job that is.
Samir Ebrahid
A charming man who seems to like to be the center of attention. Not sure if she could trust him right away, but a man who knows many and makes lots of friends or enemies could prove to be a great connection.
Taurin Bluecoat
A small guy who looks to have seen his share of fighting and training. Who makes the saying...big things come in small packages.
Alice Sobieski
Keeps herself looking good, though shes a bit of a recluse. Don't know much about her and that makes her a bit intriguing.
Tac Osmaplite
What can one say about a dwarf that loves to travel besides it usually takes longer to get there if hes leading the way. He seems like a good lad and loves traveling. That's a double plus in my book.
Aurora Mvashti
A Sylph, someone she can actually relate a little bit too. Though she has skill with the sword with an aura of "don't mess with me", I'm sure she has a soft heart on the inside.
Sir Alastor Goldenmane
A man who seems to be drinking and drowning in his own pit of sorrows. He needs to get out of the bottle and back into the real world. I wonder what happen if I cast an aversion spell on him for alcohol.
