What to Expect

The first thing to know about Dungeon Dive is that it is hard, really hard. The easiest level of encounter is Deadly and the DMs don't pull punches. For this reason, having a mechanically tuned character is very beneficial. This is by design. Players are not part of set groups in Dungeon Dive and can form parties of any level and any size, including mixed parties. Deciding how deeply into a dungeon to dive is up to the individual groups. In Dungeon Dive your characters aren't heroes of legend who will save the world. They're adventurer's out to get loot and maybe help the local town. There are narrative elements to uncover in the various dungeons, but the focus of the game is on the play itself. There are several dungeons located around a central 'hub' of a town and multiple DMs running them to allow many players to play simultaneously. We encourage people to build in character relationships between their character and those they dive with, as well as to change groups whenever they feel like it. Evil and/or selfish PCs are allowed. They are uncommon (in that few people have chosen to play this way), but they are permitted. A PC may choose to keep secrets about dungeons for themselves and not share with the group or, indeed, to abandon the group and leave or sell them out to monsters. Of course, if a character starts stealing from other player characters they may find it harder to find a group who will take you after all this is a small, tight-knit community. It is worth noting that there is nothing stopping a party heading to a dungeon at the same time as another expedition is already there. In such cases, they may well run into each other and at that point will have to decide what to do. The community of Dungeon Dive is friendly, helpful and welcoming. It won't take long to find a group (or to wade into a dungeon alone if you feel suicidal). The DMs and players will all be willing to help and give advice. I feel the need to stress again here, however, that Dungeon Dive is hard and that is what makes it so much fun!

Character Creation

Once you're ready to create your character, just fill out the below application and one of our glorious DMs will be along to check you over in no time. Once you've been approved move your character over to the Adventurer's thread and, please, delete your application (just to keep things tidy). When creating a character please follow these guidelines: All characters start at Level 1 Attributes are determined with standard 27 point-buy All officially published material may be used, until and unless superseded by a later publication. All Unearthed Arcana, except unique classes may be used (at this point this is only the Mystic and Revised Ranger) You start with the standard starting equipment for your class and background or average gold, your choice. Next to your Skills on your character sheet, please indicate the source of any proficiency or expertise. Please remember to include your background and feature on the sheet somewhere. I'm certainly fascinated and interested in applying - however I haven't done many combat-focused campaigns. I usually play more quirky, less optimised characters - is there any advice etc. available on figuring out what works well?
