[Game Thread] Heart of Bugness - Thomas (Hound)

On Route to Route 1 The edge of the town was easily reached, given it was still very new and very small. Beyond the last building awaited almost entirely untamed wilderness, the only part of civilisation leading outward being the thin paved road that lead up to the mining town. It was called Route one, the first and currently only route connecting the two settlements and one outpost on Prisma Island. It was not a hard task for Thomas to spot Emira, since there was very little traffic about the road. Trucks from the mine only rolled in twice a day, so right now it was only the two newcomers and the rare local wanderer. The weather was quite nice for a little walk, with wingull and other bird pokemon flying high above in the blue skies and the occasional rodent-pokemon scuttling about the shrubberies only a stone's-throw from where the two where standing A sign gave Thomas the approximate distances to the only two points outside the capital at this point, which of course Emira could also read through the eyes of her pokemon: Keystone (The official name of the mining town) 120 miles, Hyford Ranger Station 20 miles An arrow was pointing north for the mining town. The one for the ranger station turned right at the top, indicating that there would be a crossing ahead. Either way it should be possible to reach the Ranger station in one day, though if the two made a few detours they might not arrive before dusk.

Emira had planned to wait for Thomas... She really had. But when thirty minutes had passed, and then forty, with no sign of the other trainer, Emira pushed herself off of the wall she had leaned herself up against with a sigh, "I guess he probably wont mind if we just go on ahead... We'll meet him at the Ranger Station." Confetti chitters in agreement before fluttering up and over Emira's head, giving her a better look at her surroundings as she sets off down the beaten path, following the signs along the way. The presence of pokemon off of the path, easily spotted by Confetti makes Emira thoughtful for a moment... If they were going into the deep jungle, she'd probably want to find at least a few more pokemon to bring with her... and given that it would probably be a little while until Thomas caught up... Emira looked up toward Confetti, "Maybe we can look around at the local pokemon, hmm? Worst that can happen is I have to rush you back to town... and town IS just right there. This is probably the safest place on the whole island to try to catch at least one more pokemon to add to the team."

OOC stuff Summary: Emira decides to start heading toward the Ranger station on her own... but decides to hunt for at least one more pokemon to add to her team along the way!

OOC Please give me a perception check (for your pokemon? I am not sure how it would work with the telepathy, but somebody needs to make one). If you indicate what you are specifically looking at or for you will also be able to steer the results a little, i.e. some pokemon might climb up a tree while others might scuttle about the shrubs, or be dug into the earth entirely. Just something to give me an idea of what you might prefer to find, if there is a preference.

Ace Trainer Thomas Jaeger Thomas and Fang excited the Harbour town to the North toward, passing by the sign with Keystone on it. Thomas walked with purpose, and though he was on high alert for danger, he was far from appreciating the natural beauty of the jungle around him. Walking along the path, Thomas noticed up-ahead a distinctive young woman with long silver hair he easily identified as Emira. She had also shown interest in locating the missing gym leader, which also happened to be Thomas' goal. The ace trainer called out, "Emira!" he recalled Emira couldn't see, so he didn't bother to wave his hands. He made his way toward her at a steady gate so as not to seem aggressive. He wasn't sure how a blind person felt, but he knew he wouldn't want to hear someone charging toward him he couldn't see. A roadside forest Emira had gone a little ahead, partially because she was eager to get moving, but also because she was already thinking about how she would defend herself on the rescue mission she had dedicated herself to. Her mind naturally had gone to acquire more helpers, friends even, given her close relationship with Confetti. There were lots of pokeballs at her disposal, and her keen ears and the eyes of her own bug pokemon quickly revealed that the forest off the concrete path had lots of critters crawling just out of sight. Nature was wont to hide at all times, from each other and from the prying eyes of eager trainers. She had walked route one until the grassland was behind her and she could enter what one would consider an actual forest. Not yet the looming jungle she had heard about in relation to Roberta Ó Cuinns disappearance, but something to start with. Being interested in the kind of pokemon that made such places their home she made her Vivillion look at the branches and treetops nearby. The bug pokemon had old habits kick in immediately, as this was very similar to the kind of locale that it had grown up itself. So when experienced eyes scanned the forest it wasn't long until Confetti spotted a family of three birds on a branch pecking on a few nuts. Colourful for this far south possibly, and distracted by their food at the moment. The pokedex whispered the information into emiras ear, who had probably plugged an earphone lest the assistant talking out loud would startle a pokemon she was about to hunt. <Pikipek, the Woodpecker Pokémon. A Normal and Flying type. It can unleash sixteen pecks per second to drill a hole into a tree where it stores food.> Beyond that Confetti found two trees that were of special interest: One held what looked like four or five pinecones, which on closer inspection were moving ever so slightly. <Pineco, the Bagworm Pokémon. Appears calm as it hangs sedately from tree branches, but it will self-destruct at the slightest provocation.> Something a more common sight was a hub of combees tucked to the trunk of another tree, all in all maybe nine of the beelike pokemon. <Combee, the Tiny Bee Pokémon. A trio of Combee stays together for life, basically carrying sweet nectar from flower to flower.> It was about then that Emira heard Hound call from afar. Luckily he was still quite a distance away, so the shout did not disturb any of the pokemon that she had spotted. With the help of the dedicated trainer she might be able to tackle one of the groups of pokemon that she had spotted, but she also knew that as soon as she took any such action the immediate area would know about it, meaning she couldn't fight or catch them all. By them Thomas had walked up to her and most likely realised that she was concentrating on something. Possibly she pointed out the Pokemon Confetti had spotted, but if Thomas took a minute or two he could have also seen them by himself. If none of these seemed like anything worth fighting over there were now also twice as many eyes about, so maybe the two wanted to continue looking.

OOC So as alluded to it would be a tall order to fight more than one of these groups, as after a fight breaks out other pokemon in the area are likely to scatter. So it's lucky that it's loose forest closer to the town, so it's not uncommon to see more than one pokemon in the area at once. If there's any questions about the pokemon themselves you might want to roll pokemon education or something similar - or you could just go for it!

Emira listens intently to the earpiece connected wirelessly to her phone and considers her options... Two of the three pokemon were flying types, and two of them were bugs. Of the three options, Emira discounted the combees. She already had a flying bug pokemon... and while an evolved combee could be useful, Emira had at least heard that they could be hard to evolve, and were fairly weak until they had. The pineco would probably go about exploding shortly after she made any attempt to fight them, which made them a dangerous -- and elusive -- target... They also didn't seem like they moved much. Finally, there was the pikipek, which would be dangerous for entirely different reasons... Bug types were weak against flying types, and Confetti was a bug type... But he also had a lot more versatility than the pikipek. While Emira considered what the best option between the pineco and the pikipek was, she heard her name called from a good distance away, and turned her head vaguely in the direction of the voice. That sounded like Thomas, having arrived at last! Maybe that could work in her favor. Emira turns more fully in his direction, not quite looking at him directly as she speaks, "There you are... I decided to use my time waiting for you to look for some local pokemon... and I've found some, but I might be able to use your help, if you're willing... There's a trio of pikipek up in the trees... Dangerous to send my single bug type after them, if I remember my pokemon type charts, but between the two of us we can probably even the odds..."

Thomas Jaeger Thomas looked up, as directed by Emira, to try and spot the Pekipek she was referring to. It wasn't particularly hard, spotting them pecking at nuts, their hard piercing beaks cracking nuts with ease. "I see them." He recalled Emira has a Vivillon, which would definitely be at a disadvantage against three bird types. Thomas looked to the Zubat on his shoulder. "Fang, think you can take'em?" The bat gave a small screech in response. The ace trainer turned his attention back to Emira. "We should strike together." Zubat took to the air, waiting for Vivillon to be summoned so they could strike at the same time. OOC Hilariously, Zubat and Vivillon's speed is identical (14), and Thomas and Emira's speed is identical (10) Assuming Emira gives the Okay. OOC Mechaniacal - would you like to include a post about Confetti attacking too? Thomas is specifically trying to do this at the same time and told Emira, so you'd have the option to.

Emira gives a nod, and turns to look back in the direction of Confetti. Though the interaction between Emira and her pokemon was silent, unheard by Thomas, Fang, or even the pikipek, it seemed that Confetti understood exactly what he was meant to do, suddenly flying closer to the birds and flailing his wings at them, sending pale green powder in their general direction as he came into range. Emira, meanwhile, looked in Thomas' general direction once again, speaking in a pleasant, almost singsong voice, "The attack has begun~ Good luck."

The Birds The two trainers took a second to coordinate their efforts then went ahead with their orchestrated assault. As they approached the Pikipek the colourful birds turned their beaks in the direction of the sound of wings beating, however it was too late to flee for them. One moment this small gathering of three birds was sitting on its branch peacefully, the next a Zubat had flown up in the middle of the day to gnaw on one of their members. The colourful bird shrieked, but was too shocked to retaliate. Next the Vivilon fluttered over to spray the three Pikipek in a bug-based attack. The bird that had been snacked on by fang fell of the tree entirely, fainting even before it hit a bush below. The other two took the attack better than expected, probably since nature had evolved the bird to prey on the bug, and not usually for it to happen the other way around. The remaining Pikipek chirped noisily and tried to defend themselves. First one of them fluttered between Fang and Confetti to eject a terrible shriek, the sound hurting their eardrums and fighting spirits alike. The second Pikipek had shifted away from Fangs reach, and was doing a similar thing. However its own sonic attack was specifically targeted on Fang, a terrible chirp if the Zubat ever heard one.

OOC "Pikipek1, slightly hurt (+50%) "Pikipek2, slightly hurt (+50%) I don't usually draw maps for straightforward fights like this, however since we have multiple area attacks I thought you might want to see the specifics at least once. Start Map:   That's about how I imagined it so that Confetti could hit all three birds without hitting Fang. Even if Fang had moved up a bit this would still work, however I didn't hear anything about flanking the birds specifically. Pikipek 1 faints. Pikipek 2 shifts away, uses Echoed Voice on Fang, hits. Pikipek 3 shifts closer, uses Uproar, hits. This is the map after:   It's 27 special damage on Confetti and 49 special damage on Fang (-2x sdef, it's two attacks). They are however both normal types. The Pikipek have 2 evasion.

Emira winces as she gets a sense of the damage done by the pikipek... but she had already known that this was going to be a dangerous proposition. While Confetti fights, Emira reaches into her bag to grasp a pokeball... One possible way for her to help out was to capture one of the damaged pikipek after all, right? While she prepares to throw the pokeball, Confetti releases another cloud of dust, this one more targetted, in the form of a spray of yellowish dust, aimed at the closest of the bird pokemon. Whether the attack lands as expected or not, Confetti darts away again, trying to put some distance between himself and the pikipek, while Emira tries to throw a pokeball at the very same target.

Thomas Jaeger Thomas did not look pleased at the exchange, attacking a larger group was never a great idea, but it was better to try it out close to town. Hopefully, this match wouldn't get drawn out. Fang was already looking worn out. "Hang in there Fang! Position yourself between then and use a feint attack against the far away one. Turn it into a loop-de-loop and bite the second!" The Birdcage The dust ejected by Confetti settled over one of the Pikipeks. Trying to go for another shrill shriek the poor bird breathed it all in, which made it incredibly woozy before it settled back down onto the branch the creatures had made their home. Soon after a the pokeball that Emira had thrown passed by, describing a high arch through the air while it popped open and sucked the pokemon in with a flash of light. This left only one of the colourful birds near the tree, and Fang was already after it smacking it backwards. It was just as well that Thomas pushed the Zubat to do a more complicated maneuvre, hitting the Pikipek twice, because it could just about stomach the first attack. The second bite was too much however, and this bird also started to plummet downwards, its fall only broken by a bush below. With all the commotion most pokemon that had been visible a moment earlier had started to hide or had vacated the immediate area. However Emira had gained a new companion, and if they moved a little and kept their eyes open they must surely stumble on other groups of critters.

OOC Yes, it's meet or beat the AC, so the Pikipek was paralysed. Coincidentally it wouldn't have mattered anyway given your great to-catch roll. Emira gains a male Pikipek at Level 9 with the patient nature. It knows Uproar as an inherited move and is currently paralysed. You are free to redistribute attribute points as you see fit, but it has sustained 14 points of damage (ignoring def in this instance, given your def might end up different than mine). EDIT: Sorry I forgot. The Pikipek has the Keen eye ability. Double EDIT: And don't forget Emira gets a trainer EXP for catching a pokemon. Triple Edit: And of course the pokemon get exp as well - 15 each (Half of two lvl 10 pokemon and one lvl 9, rounded up) You are in a forest habitat currently, still more or less within sight of route 1.

Thomas Jaeger Fang the Zubat fluttered down and landed upon Thomas' shoulder, the latter of whom immediately began stroking the former behind the ears. "That was an excellent match, Fang. You did very well." While his main attention was still on petting his pokemon, Thomas addressed Emira, "That was rather close. Fang is going to need a check up, and I imagine the same can be said for your Pokemon. Shall we double back to the Pokecentre?"
