Plot Summary Trust the Computer. The Computer is Your Friend. Not trusting The Computer is treason. Treason is punishable by death. Paranoia is not a humorous roleplaying game about a distinctly Orwellian, dystopian future and living in a sealed city run by a psychotic computer. On the contrary, Alpha Complex is reality, a utopia. Friend Computer is wise and benevolent and not at all murderous. There are no communists, mutants, traitors, or secret societies. Technology is more advanced than it has ever been in the history of civilization, and research and development does not routinely involve handing out prototype weapons which will of course never let loose a nuclear explosion if dropped. There is nothing of note outside of Alpha Complex, and all its citizens are completely happy to live inside it and never leave. Happiness is mandatory. Unhappiness is treason. Friend Computer has many super fun and exciting activities planned. Describe character submission: Character creation rules are as follows: [redacted] List what source books (and online resources) you allow; Reading any written or digital paranoia source material or add on content outside of your security clearance is strictly prohibited, if any of that nonexistent content actually existed... Instead read all your other source books and materials and understand that everything in them is wrong, communist traitor lies spread by subversive elements trying to destroy alpha complex. Report anyone spreading this misinformation or restricted material to friend computer for termination. Even if you have a specific list of sources, clarify whether you'll consider requests from players for additional material. Friend computer is open to all suggestions. State how many characters you're going to accept, e.g. 4-6. If you want four active, you may need to ask for 6. Friend computer requires 6 active citizens to form a squadron. 4 already have awoken, 2 more are required. Think about whether you want to keep some rejected characters as backups if some of your accepted characters drop out (they will...) Additional backups are eligible for promotion at any time. State your writing standards. I've seen some DMs threaten mayhem for bad grammar, use of 'lol', etc. Friend computer communicates in English. Specify how to submit characters: post in recruit thread, private message (PM) to the DM, post a link to a full character sheet, ... Do NOT DM the GM. Treason is punishable by death. Specify a rolling thread even if you don't need it for abilities, so people can roll age, height, weight, if they want to. Hey daveron, you'll have to PM Birched if you want to see if your old games fell prey to the 2009 Great Erase. Basically things were downloaded to archive, but I think there's a way for him to reload the data? He'd have the details, rather than I; his clearance rating is so far superior to my own. We can get you a new forum once we see enough interest in the game.

Typically, this consists of some kind of application here in this ad thread, but if you are willing to accept any/all comers, you can edit your game request from the DM Control Panel (under the Tools menu) and type in any accepted players' usernames.

PS - I think you used the ancient "how to advertise your game" thread, which is specifically directed at 3.5e (back before we played so many other things). Some of that info may well be useless and you can totally edit it out.

PS 2 - I've barely managed to post once a week lately, so I'm probably going to remove my interest until a later date.

they are from 2007-2008 and it was thread 3000 something on the site over all..

How should we make our Character application?

I seem to have spurred 2 other paranoia DM's out of the woodwork... I had originally intended to have 3 meta levels in my alpha complex representing the 3 playstyles, serious, straight, and zap. the players would have one as their 'home' but would occasionally travel to the others, and I could run all three simultaneously depending on interest. I think having 3 different dm's controlling three different parts of the same meta-adventure with different rules and story ideas is *perfect* for the appropriate atmosphere that alpha complex needs to be a genuine experience in the pbp environment.

I'm thinking now of trying to talk them into each dming a separate layer... zap in the outer sphere, straight in the mid, and the deeply bureaucratic and to many forms deep core for the serious play... if there is enough interest to explore the extended content, we could venture deep underground into the 'under core'. I paid for two copies of every digital book I have so I could lend one copy out to one person for a one fuse and not feel guilty about it, and to support mongoose because they are awesome.

You can submit a character application of any character from whatever system you want. (prior life template) Or, jump in with a default clone template (blank slate)

I'm using the modern kick starter to bootstrap but it is designed to be played with cards so I'm having to homebrew and hybridize it with troubleshooter's edition, since I lost my xp edition I really liked.

The game starts with character creation in game with the version I'm boot strapping the adventure with. Once this all gets going I'll track most things, and ask the players to keep track of some things (inventory, skills) themselves in dedicated threads which they can also make rolls in and use for secret messaging (both with the dm, and with each other)

character creation like everything else is a secret.. but since I know the people here will ask anyways, I'm willing to give you this:
I'll convert your character into the system however I feel is appropriate. Any advantage you have will generally be offset by two corresponding disadvantages of double the intensity. (Every +1 earns two -2's) If you don't factor in your own disadvantages I get to mix in my own. broad advantages correspond to broad disadvantages. Very specific and narrow advantages, get very specific and narrow disadvantages.

After much thought I'll add this. The once per day AVERAGE posting speed, is to be expected only in the OCC thread for helping to plan and roll for the next weekly post. Each week will be a 'main post' incorporating the 'round' and moving on to the next page of the story.. we can schedule times to have back and forths if you want dialog scenes, so no.. you don't have to worry about committing to big posts every day... you can just make a few posts through out the week to make sure you get what you want out of the weekly plot post. You can also just make one post, and write out your intentions and I'll do my best to accommodate, I prefer not to write for players characters too much, as most tend to like to control their own characters as much as possible. php can make this hard with some game systems.

The rule of fun always wins.

Citizens, there has been lots of supposed interest so far... but only one clone has made it to the game thread. I'm beginning to suspect communist traitor sabotage. Alpha Complex only needs 6 volunteers for this Mandatory Bonus Duty. It is guaranteed that it will totally FUN! as well as a completely safe adventure. Odds of survival are approximately [Not Available at your Clearance]. I'm giving you all time to make characters if you wish, but please try to be quick about it. Your sector is counting on you for its continued survival! I don't want to be forced to run a solo adventure. That wouldn't be safe for the poor clone at all!
