Get To Know A Gamer: psuedenim

Get to Know a Gamer
Not Your Real Name!?! Edition

Hello everyone. This thread is the next installment in a series of threads on a somewhat-weekly basis where we get to know members of the RPGX community by having informal "Ask Me Anything"-type threads. In essence, I am going to post some icebreaker questions to which the subject will reply and then the thread will remain open for Q&A until it isn't fun any more.

If you would like to be a victim interviewed, if you have feedback on GTKAG or on the questions themselves, follow this link: https://www.rpgcrossing.com/showthread.php?p=8981519

Some reminders:
  1. All site rules of course still apply (i.e. keep it PG, no dox, etc.)
  2. Nobody's obliged to answer any questions they don't want to answer
  3. Please keep in mind the risks of sharing info online.
  4. It is okay to ask questions in advance; no need to wait for the victim to respond to the opener.

Now without further ado, some opening questions to break the ice!

QuestionnaireWhat are you doing right now? (besides answering this)
What do you like about your town? (and where is that?)
What do you see when you look in the mirror?
What do you see when you look out the window?
What's your personal creed/motto?
Low-fat, non-fat or regular milk?
Pen or pencil?
Last-gen or first-gen game consoles?
Where would you vacation (if you had enough money)?
Sarcastic or ironic?

The following shamelessly stolen from the "Inside the Actor's Studio" Questionnaire:

What is your favorite word?
What is your least favorite word?
What turns you on (intellectually speaking, not sexually)?
What turns you off?
What sound do you love?
What sound do you hate?
What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
What profession would you not like to participate in?
If heaven exists what would you like to hear your supreme being of choice say when you arrive?

What is your favorite...
...music style?
...food style?
...color?
...instrument?
...ice-cream flavor?
...furniture piece?
...quote?
...video game?
...magazine?
...moment in a game (either on RPGX or IRL)?

Interrogation Pt. 1
What are you doing right now? (besides answering this)
Catching up on emails before starting work, which is from home so lots of time to be distracted here. Drinking tea and playing a little wordle and wafflegame.

What do you like about your town? (and where is that?)
Small, safe, quiet, end of the road. At the same time its not too far from lots of things you get from a big city. It basically hits that sweet spot of being too far and too quiet to be inviting for those looking for a day out and close enough to the stores and leisure places that we like. Its still suffering from the usual lack of housing at any price most places are seeing but it seems to be weathering it well so far. Quite a few choices for coffee and a Brew pub is opening soon!!!

What do you see when you look in the mirror?
Greying hair, extra wrinkles and a beard that defies grooming. Its odd as in my mind I still feel like the guy in his 20's wondering when I will know I am a responsible fully grown adult and yet here I am older, with a family and responsibilities. Is it possible to feel like you ever have your stuff together?

What do you see when you look out the window?
Some trees, plenty of houses and a cloudy blue sky (classic suburbia I'm afraid). Its bin day today (or garbage collection as its called here) so there will be lots of noise soon and the dog will be barking.

What's your personal creed/motto?
No specific quote just more of a self advisory to be polite and civil. Sometimes it drifts off into vague things that align with Buddhists universal suffering. Its nearly impossible to get this far in life without dealing with all sorts of stress and trauma and taking it out on each other doesn't make it better.

Low-fat, non-fat or regular milk?
2% or regular. Lower and its tastes like weird water, any higher and I feel like a kitten supping on cream.
Pen or pencil?
Pencil - easier to doodle and shade and correct mistakes

Last-gen or first-gen game consoles?
Last-Gen -1. Used to be a huge PC Gamer for a while but the latest consoles are good enough and really convenient. Seems I have a thing for open world RPG's too, I blame Morrowind that game just completely sucked me in.

Where would you vacation (if you had enough money)?
Florida Keys (before its submerged) for authentic key lime pie and riding in a swamp boat.

Sarcastic or ironic?
Sarcastic!

Interrogation Pt. 2
What is your favorite word?
Based on frequency "Right", due to the Princess Bride that word.

What is your least favorite word?
Like - cos you know like, its just like, I dunno this word that like has superceded "errmmm". What is there to like, like!

What turns you on (intellectually speaking, not sexually)?
Witty repartee with a dash of cynicism all packaged up in a friendly and fun discourse

What turns you off?
Strong bad smells - punches that limbic system right in the nose

What sound do you love?
The sizzle of Bacon frying, my wife laughing, a cats purr, heavy rain.

What sound do you hate?
Blackboard + fingernails (shudders)

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
Food critic - it would be beer tester but some precipices need to be stepped back from. Food critic isn't much better but getting paid to eat fancy food sounds great - in fact it doesn't have to be fancy all the time. Open to job offers so please get those DM's in.

What profession would you not like to participate in?
I'm a little squeamish so anything involving the insides of bodies from soldiering to doctoring and butchery

If heaven exists what would you like to hear your supreme being of choice say when you arrive?
"This way to the whiskey through time tasting club"

Interrogation Pt. 3
What is your favorite...
...music style?
Eclectic - I prefer a good tune over anything else but I tend toward rock and metal unless its when I'm working then its more electronic and vocals free.

...food style?
Fried or Sweet - this was easy as there are only those 2 food categories anyway. My choice of fusion is looking obvious and Glasgow would be the place to live for me.

...color?
Blue - sea, sky, C-beams in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate

...instrument?
Guitar - but in my hands its an instrument of Death (haven't touched one for a very long time)

...ice-cream flavor?
This one has changed over the ages. It used to be Mint Choc Chip and then Raspberry cheesecake and I recently found a Maple and Walnut flavour. I have tried Bacon but it doesn't work in this kind of treat for me.

...furniture piece?
What an odd question. I like swinging chairs specifically the larger ones but I don't own one. I do own a cocktail cabinet, inherited from a gran, but its not got booze in it. Keeps evaporating allegedly.

...quote?
I don't have a good memory for quotes but my fall back is Bill & Ted's "Be Excellent to each other"

...video game?
Horizon Zero Dawn - Post-post-apocalyptic meets Tomb Raider meets robot Dinosaurs. I have yet to meet someone that played it and didn't like it. Its on PC and PS4 now so no excuses!

...magazine?
Wayback Dragon and White Wolf. Less wayback in time it used to be PC Gamer and similar. Today I might buy a magazine about Ski gear and Skiing. I sometimes check out the digital Dragon magazine buts it gone the way of most and is heavy with adverts and product pushing.

...moment in a game (either on RPGX or IRL)?
Morrowind -the first time where you find something not part of the first quests and you go down the exploration rabbit hole and the game didn't break, no invisible walls, nothing. Just here's a map and some toys and a theme best of luck.

Shadowrun, great setting, or the greatest setting?

Have you ever had a chance to play any of the electronic games or TTRPGs?

Will you be applying for Outplay?

If you were the undisputed ruler of RPGX for a day, what would be your first royal decree?

Hi! I totally feel you on the wondering when I’m going to be an adult. I thought it would have kicked in by now! And I also came to maple walnut late in life, having thought of them as old people flavors in my younger days. So, this is just to say, hi there I am also old!

Ok — questions:

Who is your favorite guitarist?

Did you play Tomb Raider?

Where you are from do they call garbage cans bins? And is it Scotland?

Describe what makes the best key lime pie?

Cyberpunk - a great setting. I enjoy the dystopian SciFi and played the rpg as a teen. Had a friend that kept getting the cyber snake aug for every character Netrunning was what appealed the most and yet consistently fell flat in the games we had.

Games of TTRPGS - All of Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter nights. None of the more recent stuff, I prefer the isometric view for these party games. I tried the other games using the same engine but the map loading just annoyed me too much. Does the Witcher 3 count as I loved that

Outplay - I will be watching only this year as I am new and the time commitment is too much.

King of RPGX - I think making this place more mobile friendly but I also hate typing on my phone so it would benefit me a tiny amount so what else... A tool to generate an in post, BBCode friendly, version of your character sheet. Level up - update char sheet - click button - paste into post.

Who is your favorite guitarist?
I grew up listening to Dire Straits so Mark Knopfler

Tomb Raider
I played all of them, even completed a few of them.

Bins
Originally from the UK now living in Canada

Key Lime Pie
Never tried genuine Keys Limes so I would be curious to try and see if I can tell the difference, I've never tried a Meyer lemon either so there is a lemon meringue pie trip there too

What do you miss most (food-wise) from the UK? For me, it's Hendo's (which you probably won't have heard of unless you're from south Yorkshire), proper mushy peas, and prawn cocktail flavour skips.

The one that tastes the best - Actual - fried twice - Korean Fried ChickenKFC. Having watched the Jurassic park movies a pet Velociraptor would be a great guard pet as well as looking awesome pulling you in a sled.

Wow, so close as I hale from West Yorks But you are right not sure what Hendo's is.

Foods I miss:
  • Proper sausages
  • All the cheeses (they are so expensive here you are forced to the generic melty orange cheese which is light on flavour)
  • Black beer (but this hard to find in the UK too)
  • Black Pudding
  • Mushy peas (but can be found in tins in import sections of stores)
  • Proper chips (none of this fries nonsense)
  • Pita bread (the ones you can make pockets out of)
  • Duck and Pancakes (apparently this is 2 dishes the brits turned into one)
  • Scampi flavoured crisps as well as Prawn cocktail

What's with all the northerners in here? Is this some kind of stealth coup? You're going to struggle to march on southeast england from Canada, I'm just saying.

What's your take on Branston Pickle on baked potatoes with a nice thick slice of cold cut ham?

What do you think about Lemming's habit of eating the skin on kiwi fruits and throwing the flesh in the bin?

Favourite TTRPG system?

I replaced a rainy town with another rainy town but this one has bigger hills (aka mountains) and I also discovered my love of skiing.

I prefer a ham sandwich with Branston pickle and tuna mayo with a Jacket potato but I like to think I'm a little adventurous so I might give your recipe a whirl next time I have those ingredients on hand.

I did not know that about Lemmings and that sounds weird and wasteful along with the suicidal thing they do.

Favourite TTRPG...

Played DnD a lot and Cyberpunk, loved both and really wanted to try shadowrun as it seemed to marry the two. I recently joined a game of Forbidden Lands and that is pretty fun as I have never been beat up by just a bog - a literal bog, dirt and water.

Probably DnD as there is just so much of it and I am hoping to try all the big modules here. I love to read fantasy and getting into an Epic story is right up my street.

A filthy lie! I'm betting that bothers doesn't even have a drum kit anyway since she refuses to post videos of her playing them. Probably just uses an upturned bass drum to store all her kiwi skins in for when she feasts on them.
