I think I'll write up an application as Arch Militant, someone responsible for security and personal bodyguard to the Rogue Trader. Perhaps a veteran from the Third Armageddon War? I'm off to find some books, its been a while ![]() |

Yep people without any 40k knowledge are absolutely welcome. And I'd be happy to get you up to speed as required.
I would suggest playing a somewhat "sheltered" character. In that, your character doesn't know much about the wider world, to make things easier. There's lots of options, you could be from a very primative world, you could have grown up in a low class way, hive world gang, low ranking navy officer, or so forth. Or even a newly trained astropath, mechanicus, or navigator, fresh out of training. Rather than playing a well connected wealthy noble who should know a lot about everything. It's good you have the books. Try and read through a little bit of the core rulebook at least, character creation and playing the game sections.

I'm working on a character and I'm wondering if he fits the setting and game, would you mind glancing at this and giving me your opinion?
Imperial World, Child of the Creed, Duty Bound, Calamity, Fortune Commander Kizurra Nuesh, formerly known as Commissar Kizurra Nuesh, grew up on an imperial World mostly resembling feudal Japan. The mineral rich World had been worshipping a god emperor for many centuries and the Imperium had an relatively easy task implementing their dogma once they had flagged the planet for the asset it would be. Apart from the valuable mineral found in the deep volcanoes, the planet had another resource to offer. The warrior elite caste of Samurai-like individuals who possessed unshakeable will and masterful swordsmanship. It was them that held the official titles and offices and through them the movers and shakers ruled the lands. Until ofcourse the Astrum Militarum landed and took over the planet, imposing the will of the Emperor. It was from the best of the best out of this Samurai-like group of people, who made up the ruling elite, that the drafts for the imperial guards were selected. The highest honor imaginable. And of this 1% of 1%, Kizurra was amongst the very best. His bloodline goes back almost as far as the original royal guard to the first King-Emperor before the planet even got discovered by the imperium. However, being the 1% of the 1% of the 1%, doesn't always count for much when put against the untold millions upon millions of the Imperium of Man. Kizurra found the 'ceiling' of his capabilities during his time served in the Astrum Militarum. Or rather, the Officio Prefectus within it. He was 32 years old when he first put his boots on the ground clad in the telltale longcoat and capped hat of the Commisar. He performed his duties diligently and ruthlessly to the letter, however during the Third War Kizurra couldn't line up his conscious with the mandate of executing those he commanded much longer. His sense of duty hardened him, and kept him from turning his back on the Imperium. But at the same time his sense of righteousness, his moral compass, had him look around for other opportunities. This opportunity came around when he saved someone from the house Iddideron from certain death. A boon was owed and Kizurra was allowed the chance to transfer into the employ of the house. He would serve as personal guard to the Rogue Trader himself. He now commands men, with an equally hard demeanor, but with an added manner of respect and honor that simply wasn't an option in the Militarum. For allowing him to be true to his own instincts, Kizurra was forever grateful and would protect the Rogue Trader, his ship and its crew to the death. I Imagine a tall asian looking man. Proud, and arrogant looking with sharp and regal facial features. His black hair is long and usually tied in a bun. He dresses in full samurai-style armour, but 40k-ified. Badges and heraldry depicting rank, and an emblem or two with a nod to his former job as Commissar. His black helmet has a red mask and when donned, it resembles a demons face, two tusks at the side operating as breathers. New technology mixed with ancient esthetic. |

That all sounds good, the one thing I'm not completely sure about is his being a commisar.
I don't think usually commisars are recruited from outside. They're under the Ecclesiarchy, orphans raised by the church for their whole life. And the classic idea of a commisar wouldn't fit in with the game, as you pointed out in your story of him leaving. It depends how you'd play him, but I'd have trouble seeing how someone was a commisar, followed his orders well enough to not be kicked out, and is now a part of this crew. And I don't know what the process of someone leaving the commisars would look like. Being a former commisar and still wearing the symbols, might make him be seen very poorly by commisars, inquisitors, and such. If you're up for playing through stuff like that, I would be ok with giving it a try. If not, it might be easier to have him instead be an officer in the Guard, anything like a sergeant, lieutenant, captain, ext. Which wouldn't run into those issues. The samurai styling is good too, as long as it isn't overdone. Again I'd have to see it played, just as long as it isn't too overdone.

Wanted to add a thought, I believe Cain retired so I believe commissars can leave the service and retire. Just not sure about at 32 as that is young.

Hmm. Ok good point. I had to look it up just now. I didn't realize Cain was a commisar, I thought he was an officer.
So, anyway it would depend how it was played.

Character Name: Vargus Colborn
Career Path: Void-master Origins: Void-born/Scavanger/Criminal/The hand of war/Fortune Description: Standing just over six feet tall (6’2’’) Vargus is a tall lanky man, weighing in at only two hundred pounds. His raven black hair is always buzzed short and has several spots where scars keep hair from growing. His steel grey eyes hold neither hope nor comfort for those who look into them. A three-claw marked scar crosses his face from the top of his left side to the bottom of the right side of his jaw, how he got it changes depending on his mood. He wears his scavenged flak vest most of the times but when it is needed, he has a military suit that was scavenged as well. Leather boots, fingerless gloves, and a backpack fills out his wardrobe. Backstory: Vargus was born on an imperial vessel that had been crippled in a warp storm on the edge of the imperium’s territory, from the history he was told the crew managed to exit the warp just as the drives failed, and they didn’t have the parts necessary for repairs so instead of falling into despair they just went about their normal lives until rescue came. But it didn’t come in their lifetime, or in the next three generations lifetimes. Vargus and his family and all those living on the ship scavenged what they could from other wreckages that drifted by and from enemies that came to scavenge what they thought was a wreckage. Just after Vargus turned twenty a rogue trader saved them, helped them rebuild the ship on the condition that they joined his fleet. Vargus was taken for training and once the basics were instilled, they assigned him to a squad where he rapidly rose through the ranks and within five years he was standing next to the rogue trader himself as a trusted pilot and driver with an assortment of other useful skills. ![]() Career Path:Missionary (Red Consecrators level 1, Torch Bearer (2 or 4+), Beastmaster level 3) Origins: Death World, Fringe Survivor (Pit Fighter- 250 EXP), Crusade (Warrior- 300 EXP), Calamity, Vengeance, Missionary Description:Father Euric is an old man who has seen much in his many haunted years and somehow lived through it all. His body has been patched and repaired from countless scrapes and fights and it shows in the layers of scars covering every limb. However old age and scars hardly seem to slow the man. When he is not tending to his small shrine and the needs of the supplicants, he is in the training rooms and gym facing off against men a quarter of his age and leading melee defense drills. He is the first to volunteer for any chance to get close to a foe and always seems to survive if not walk out of it. Many who have witnessed his actions say he has been blessed by the God-Emperor himself and he frequently is seen passing out small charms to his devoted flock. By the same manner, he cares little for the prim and properness that many priests carry with them. He can be seen drinking and carousing with many of the armsmen in their off hours before disappearing to lead a prayer service before returning to finish the night out at the bar. He is one who will rub shoulders with those he serves for he is not better than them, but one of them as a part of the grand family of the God-Emperor carrying his word out into the stars. Backstory: Father Euric is an old man who has seen much in his many haunted years. Born on Volost Prime, he was raised the manner of his people. Trained in all manner of survival techniques, his people were frequently visited by all manner of off world rich hunters. The tribe traded themselves to serve as guides and hunting leaders in exchange for all manner of advanced technologies equipment. Euric was one traded as such. As he came of age, he was traded to rich lord to lead their party. Well in the deep jungles, the hunting group was ambushed by one of the apex predators of the world. Many were killed however Euric managed to leap upon its back and stab it deep in the eye with his knife. The beast threw him clear and broke his back however it fled soon after. The lord impressed by the youth evacuated back to his ship and saved Euric's life. Turning the child over to his local chaplain, Euric was educated and raised in the teachings of the God-Emperor. Inspired by the stories and strength, he dedicated his life to his service. Learning the ways of the fighting priest, he completed his tutelage and received his tear. Saying goodbye to his adopted family, he enlisted in the ranks of the Imperial Guard and joined them for nearly 20 years of service serving on the front lines on a dozens of different plants and warzones. Keeping true to his beliefs as a Blood Tear and the teachings of his youth, he frequently was assigned to lead bloody charges onto enemy positions, extolling the men to great feats of strength and courage in the face of corrupted cultists, foul xenos, and twisted mutants. Mustering out after 20 years, he kicked around the local worlds preaching the faith in the slums and poors. Eventually, he caught the eye of a recruiter of the House Iddideron and was recruited. Stationed on their ships to service the spiritual needs of the lower decks, he often was found in the reports of the armsmen helping lead boarding and counter-boarding activities as the ships plied the shipping lanes. Now his name was before the Captain to see if he was worthy of preaching the God-Emperor's faith on the command deck. |

Looks good so far Rylus.
Spatula, I don't see any other seneschals yet. Though I'm not sure what career Ramble was looking at. One thing, I was hoping to get a navigator and a mechanicus explorator. Not that they'd be absolutely necessary but I've got plans that would involve them and it would be a lot to offload to npcs instead. So if anyone else out there is interested we could use those two also!
