[Interest Check/Applications] Dumakis Divided
Quote:
Since then, the lands have prospered. Trade has blossomed once more in that short span of time. Dumakis’ relations with Mishant and Philia were steadily improving, and it seemed as if those halcyon days were almost too good to be true. Unfortunately, this peace was not to last. For reasons unknown, lately King Orrin’s disposition has drastically soured. The King has expressed militaristic and expansionist desires, and war is on the verge of outbreak once more. He has turned a blind eye to his people, instead setting his sights on the desirable lands elsewhere. As a elite team in the King’s army, the lot of you are at the forefront of battle, leading the carnage. With the surprise attack on Dublith, Mishant has officially cut diplomatic ties with Dumakis and all-out war is almost certain. With this war, the nation is certain to degenerate into chaos and unrest as the Dumakians question the motives of King Orrin. What will you do? Will you continue to fight for the Kingdom of Dumakis despite its questionable motives, or shall you rebel, standing against this shadow of a government? -------------- Hey guys! Mcl01 over here. This is my first attempt at DMing a game, so I’d like to find a few good players to wade through this with me. It may start off slow, but hopefully it’ll pick up steam as time goes on. As for where this is going, I have a general idea, but it all depends on you guys. If your characters take this elsewhere, then so be it. We'll see how it goes! Anyway, time for the details. Details: Starting ECL 7. Preferably no LA > +2 please. I'm hoping to make this go to early teens? Standard Wealth for ECL 7 Ability Generation: Roll 4d6, drop lowest or 32 point buy. If you choose to roll, you can’t do point buy. Allowed Books: Core, Completes, Races, MIC, SpC. I know people say Psonics/ToB are very balanced, but none of that please. I just don’t have experience with their systems. Anything else may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Posting rate: Hopefully at least one every couple of days at first, but I can’t promise much during finals week. Afterwards, once I get the hang of DMing and finals are over, hopefully we can pick up the pace a bit. Combat/RP Ratio: 50/50. Please format your applications as follows: I don't need pages of text to crawl through, but some definite substance is nice. Quality > Quantity. Tentative Deadline: Next Saturday December 5. Depending on the quality/quantity of applications, it may be extended or cut short. That should be it. Go crazy. Well, hopefully not too crazy. Keeping in mind I'm a new DM, simplicity is preferred over complexity. Optimization is fine, but obvious powergaming is frowned upon. Any alignment is fine, but I do expect some sort of team unity/cohesion. If you want to work in an idea/class that either seems broken/overly weak, then I don't mind working with you to find a solution/middle ground. Looking forward to the applications, guys. Here's hoping to a good game and good applications! Feel free to PM/ask me questions here if you want anything clarified/verified. Last edited by mcl01; Dec 4th, 2009 at 04:24 PM. |

Name: Elitza Tabaron
Alignment: CG Race: Halfling (F) Classes/Levels: Wizard 7 changed from sorcerer to wizard 11/28/2009 - after looking at all the spells Elitza will want to learn, the sorcerer isn't flexible enough. Party Role: Support, Utility, Artillery Physical Description: Elitza is short, even for a halfling, at a mere 2' 10" (86 cm). Her red-blonde hair is kept under a tan cap and short, so as not to get in her way during a fight. Matching the cap is a vest, richly embroidered with tangled roses on the front and a red dragon rampant on the back, and tan pants with more pockets than anyone could possibly need. In case the pockets weren't enough, the pants are held up with a belt that looks more portable library than anything else - with the exception of a hook which holds a steel mace, the entire length of the belt is dedicated to scroll cases. On her feet are a pair of tough leather boots - going hairy-footed is all well and good for farmers, but the battlefield requires more resilient wear. Personality: A rare combination of pragmaticism and spontanaeity. Results are what matter - set your goals and then work out ways to achieve them. If things like "common sense" and "rules" are getting in your way, discard them. Anything worth doing is worth doing all the way. She's self confident and not afraid who knows it, and keeps her emotions in plain view. She's a team player, inasmuch as the team gives her enough autonomy to act as she needs to. A good person at heart, she is a dedicated ally to her unit, friends, and family - or anyone who simply needs a friend or family. Short backstory: Something something rural halfling village, something something arcane powers awakening, something something leaving the boring village for the big shiny city, something something magic talents gets noticed by a military officer, something something gets recruited, something something promotion and elite tactical unit. I'll flesh this out a little more later. I'll probably get inspired by someone else's backstory. Hopefully. A (decent) backstory is in progress! I'm interested, and find no reason to spoil the fun of a app with the trouble of getting everyone worked up.

Well I'm certainly interested. Would a cleric intending to go into the prestige class Thaumaturgist be allowed? You can find the information on that class in the SRD.

So, straight sorcerer. Fits with the concept better, and I can always, y'know, make a character who actually uses her familiar. |

This setting reminds me of Fullmetal Alchemist...

Application Status - In Progress
Name: Craven Swiftstep (Known to friends as "Crav" or "Cravie") Alignment: NG Race: Human Classes/Levels: Cleric 7 (Animal and War domains) Party Role: Summoner, Utility, Healer Physical Description: Craven is fit, just as any cleric previously of a major sect in Dukamis's capital city should be, yet of a lean enough build to look like a skinny poser in any very heavy armor. He is fleet of foot and quick of mind, both of which contributed to the earning of his name, "Swiftstep". He is the average height for a human, and is rarely seen without his burnished brown robes. Cinching the robes to his waist is an all purpose belt with all sorts of pouches and component sacks attached to it. His scythe rests where it always is: strapped to his back. Personality: Short backstory:

I didn't realize it, but this does remind me of Full Metal Alchemist now that you mention it. I didn't actively write this as a parallel to FMA, but I suppose I love FMA's storyline so much it's essence bled into my own plot. Kudos for realizing that! :P Besides this intro, though, I don't think too much else resembles Full Metal Alchemist.

Sorry Zavia, I didn't see your question. Depending on the pace of the game, we might not start too much until then. If you can post even just a little bit before then though, that'll probably suffice. If you get accepted, we'll work it out.
Updated first post with a little more information. |

What sort of POV do you have about the Dungeon/Dragon magazines? In particular, there's a neat-o little class called Savant in issue #140 that'd make any squad a force to be reckoned with.
Also, how many will be in the final party? 4? 6? Pi?
